Look! Fireworks!
Lucian sat in the common room staring at the fire. He was happy that the common room was empty and quite for the moment. Lucian had found the castle offered many placed to hide but some of them got you in trouble with the teachers. So it was nice to sit some place with out worry.
He mindlessly opened his deck of tarot cards and seemed to be shuffling them in an obsessive manner. He had not yet been asked to read anyone which he was thankful for, but he didn't feel right if they were not by his side. Maybe one day he could predict something useful.
Lucian wondered if he should try talking to some of the kids here more. One just might hold the key to him getting out of that horrid orphanage. Not that he felt anyone would end up adopting him, but maybe there was a job or place waiting for him somewhere.

Jane flounced into the Slytherin Common room and dropped her school bag on the couch close to the fire and plopped down by it putting her feet up on the table in front of her and sighed. The day had been rather horrendous so to speak. It had started with her missing an answer in History of Magic, in front of the entire class. Her face hard gone rather red with embarrassment and she had clammed up for the rest of the class.
It had only infuriated her more when some dapper ravenclaw boy with teal in his hair had promptly come up with the correct answer. She was going to have to study that darn book more if she wanted to stay on top and not get shown up like that again. And it wouldn't hurt to get back at the insufferable Ravenclaw.
The rest of the day had gone downhill after that. It seemed that everyone had heard about it and had been teasing her the entire day. She had sat further away from the first years at lunch and had been an unfortunate victim to the a gryffindor's horrid prank. The gryffindor had shot some kind of ball at her and the next moment she had been covered in slime from head to toe. Thankfully the House Prefect of Slytherin had come to her rescue and cleaned her up with a spell, but had admonished her for her choice of seats. And the horrid boy had been sentenced to a two day detention much to her satisfaction.
At least she was relatively alone in perfect silence. She didn't relish having to move when the older students arrived later on. She rather hated when she got thrown out of the comfort of the couch, she hardly ever got to enjoy it for long.
That's when she noticed the a brunette boy with the oddest hair she'd ever seen in her life sitting next to her on the couch shuffling through tarot cards. She sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose. "Could you try and keep that down? I'm trying to get some peace and quiet here."

Lucian never even looked at the girl when she entered. He knew she was there obviously she was making enough huffing and throwing of things to wake the dead. It was only when she flopped on the couch beside him did he even glance at her. He didn't like people being close to him at all. Lucian moved a bit closer to the arm on the couch away from the girl. Though he never missed a beat with his card.
When she finally spoke he stopped moving his hands for a moment. "You're the one making all the noise. If what I'm doing annoys you then find someplace else to huff about your day. I was hear first that much you can not deny." Lucian snorted turning his head towards her again. His yellow eyes reflecting in the fire place. The light that flickered around them showed that he had bags under his eyes and his clothes had probably seen better days.
One thing more is that she had probably never seen much of Lucian. When there were others in the common room he would quickly leave to one of his many hiding place. He never stayed at meals for long and was prone to skipping classes. And even though he had sounded threatening as if he was not going to stop shuffling he pulled out the case and seemed to be putting the cards away. The last thing he wanted was others to know he had a talent for reading. They would no doubt ask him to and he would read nothing but bad things. Soon would hate him and pick on him relentlessly just like they did at the orphanage. So it was better for him to stay invisible. "Besides why do you need peace and quite anyways? Was your day really as awful as you seem to think it was?"

Jane turned to glare at the other boy. "Oh was I?" She demanded, her lips pursing in an annoyed frown. "Well my apologies, next time I'll just punt my bag in the room." She sneered back at him.
She knew she was acting like a brat and being insufferable but she really didn't care. She rather wanted someone to fight with, she had been itching for a verbal fight for some time now. She rather missed the shouting fights she got into with her brother. Why did he have to be a prefect? Now he was no fun at all.
She couldn't say that she had seen much of this Slytherin boy, so she didn't really know what his name was. Though by the look of his clothes, he didn't make much of an effort to stay clean. Jane couldn't help but wrinkle her nose at the sight of all the wrinkles in his shirt.
"Don't tell me you sleep in your clothes." She said with a sigh and ran her hand through her hair.
She blinked in surprise when he actually said the last part. "I guess you weren't in History of Magic this morning, what were you skipping? Some dratted Ravenclaw git made me look bad in front of the whole class. And then at lunch a kid threw a slime bomb on me. I think I still smell the stench from that." She said curling up her bottom lip and flipped down the cuffs of her shirt.
And there it was, a bit of green slime residue making her smell rancid. "See? Now I'm going to have to go take a long hot bath." She said in an annoyed tone. "I just took one last night." She griped.

"If you sure you can manage. It might scuff you pretty little shoes if try and punt such a heavy bag." Lucian said his nose held slightly in the air as he tucked his tarot cards in the pocket of his sweater.
He gave her an annoyed glare at the mention of his clothes before looking at the fire. "Sometimes....its the only thing I own that fits right. And most of the others have holes. Not my fault its all they give me." Lucian huffed he didn't exactly enjoy wearing someone's old clothes after all. Even his uniform had been donated to him and it didn't fit quite right.
"I skip the pointless classes often. I don't think history of magic will help me get a job in the future or anything. " Lucian said while starting to twirl the German pendant around his neck. He never seemed to be able to sit completely still for long.
"Oh poor baby got out done in something stupid by a Ravenclaw. Get over it....slime ball on the other hand.....explains the slight smell around you. I can't say that getting hit by one would warrant it being a good day for you. But again not the end of the world miss priss." Lucian said slightly smiling at her.

Inwardly Jane was thrilled that the other kid was actually making an effort with his insults, though they really weren't much. "Despite them being 'Mary Jane' shoes does not make them pretty. They've actually got steel toes." she bragged. "Better for kicking gits in the legs or privates with." She added with an evil smirk. "And my bag is nowhere as heavy as those infernal Ravenclaws. All they do is study. I have better things to do in my free time."
She noticed his annoyance at her mentioning his clothes. She wasn't going to let him know that she felt a twinge of regret. Of course she'd not know what it was like to want for clothes that fit, all her clothes were made especially for her. She couldn't help but notice that his uniform cloak was much too big for him. It was rather evident that he didn't have a family that cared for him.
"True, it's not really worth much. It's just pointless memorization." She agreed with him. She felt a sudden surge of anger at his calling her a baby, but held herself in check. It wasn't really all that offensive. He could have called her several other names, so she realized he was mainly doing it in jest.
"Well thanks for not saying anything sooner!" She retorted with a frown. "Maybe I'll be okay if I just change into a new shirt.." she said more to herself than him.
"I never said it was the end of the world, Mr. Nose." She retorted. "I just said I had a bad day. Sheesh, you'd do much better if you learned to listen."

"I'm a fan of steel toes." He gave a small laugh giving his boot a hit to the floor. They were heavy and old, but the sound they made seemed to speak that they were also steel toed. "Do you have a habit of kicking gits with your shoes? Seems like a rather...... interesting hobby." Lucian mused a bit he wasn't completely annoyed by this girl even if she seemed rather nuts in his opinion. Really though when weren't girls insane anyways.
Lucian pulled on his cloak back up his shoulder as it slid off. He was feeling conscious for the first time about what he was wearing. Back at the orphanage everyone had hand me downs. Here faced with someone like this girl though it made him feel even more out of place.
"I also never attend muggle studies. I refuse to learn about a creature that is beneath me." Lucian was adamant about his feelings on muggles and mudbloods and he didn't care what others thought of him because of it.
"Welcome, I didn't want to draw attention to it in fear it was your natural aroma." He said without skipping a beat. "You seemed in a foul mood already I didn't wish to stoke the flame."
"Mr.Nose? Really I've heard more insulting nicknames from preschoolers." It made him smile despite himself. She was an amusing bird by far, perhaps replying to her was not the worse thing he could have done. "I don't make a habit of listening to the twittering of birds. They never have anything interesting to say."

Jane couldn't help the slight twitch at the corner of her mouth that gave away her amusement at his response. "I wish, but no. If I went around kicking all the gits in this school then over half the school body would be in the infirmary getting their testicles retracted."
Jane could tell that he was still annoyed with her about her comment about his clothes. Why was it he was so self conscious about it? She supposed he just didn't like others noticing his clothes were hand me downs. Well..perhaps she would have to do something about that. She'd have to look through her brother's old clothes and see if there was anything his size. Sure they'd still be hand me downs, but they wouldn't look like it. Elias never wore the same thing twice, so all his old clothes looked brand new.
"I concur. It's pointless drivel and not even worth my time. I only attend because the parents want me to have perfect grades. Though maybe I'll join you in skipping it one day soon." Jane said rolling her eyes in exasperation.
"Well I don't know what kind of girls you've grown up with, but a girl never smells this bad. Not if she can help it. " She shot back. "Well..that's probably wise. The flame does like to destroy the moth after all."
"Yes I suppose you have, seeing as you act like one." She shot back and fought the urge to stick out her tongue. That would only be proving that she herself acted like one as well. "Twittering birds? Well at least I don't crow like a Rooster! They're loud and obnoxious, just like you!"

Lucian laughed a bit he found humor in the crude way she had spoken. There weren't to many girls willing to let the word testicles hit their lips. "And what would be wrong with that? Just let me know before you go on a rampage so I can wear a cup."
He didn't deserve to be in such rags, he was not a true orphan. Lucian's mother and sister sat in nice clothes, in a nice home in Germany. To say he wasn't pissed about that thought would be a lie.
"Why would your parents care if you had good grades in something utterly as dumfounded as learning about the ants that crawl on the earth beneath our feet." Lucian said with a clear distaste one his mouth.
"All the girls smell weird to me. You were only different in that it was a foul smell. " Lucian replied calmly.
"I rather be a preschooler then then an ugly lizard that sticks its tongue out." Lucian retorted smirking at her. "Least I'm some what human." Lucian slicked back his hawk at her next shot. "Least a rooster has a purpose with his crow your tweets are nothing but noise."
Lucian was rather enjoying this exchange, he hadn't met someone willing to fight with him in such a playful manner before.

Jane smirked, of course a boy would find humor in her crude language. It never failed to get them to laugh. "Oh don't worry, when I go on a rampage I never go after kids in my own house." She said to reassure him. "Though if you'd like I could."
Jane could detect a bit of anger in his expression, she wondered what about his situation that made him so angry. She supposed she'd have to ask him at a later date, when he wasn't so mad.
"Well because they don't have anything better to do with their time, other than attend parties all the time. Frankly I wish they'd just leave me to my own devices. I do well enough in school as it is that I don't need them keeping an eye on everything I do." She replied with more than a little annoyance.
"Of course, you're a boy." She retorted. "Most boys think girls are weird. It's just the natural order of things. Like how most girls at this age think boys are disgusting."
Jane shook her head at his comment about a lizard. "Well for one thing I didn't stick my tongue out so what's with the comment? Somewhat? What else are you? Elf?" She couldn't help but grimace at his slicking back his weird hair. "You know your hair would look much better if you got rid of those weird pieces hanging down by your face. And don't you mean to say, AT least? Otherwise that sentence doesn't make sense at all. You seem to be enjoying my tweets, you're talking to me aren't you Rooster head?" She couldn't help but shoot back with a smirk.
Jane was glad he was enjoying the exchange; not only was it letting her get out her anger but it was starting to cheer her up. She was rather happy to have found someone that could banter back and forth with her without letting their emotions getting the better of them.
Jane frowned and cocked her head to the side, her ears having caught the sound of footsteps coming towards them. She sighed heavily and rolled her eyes. "Prepare yourself, the horde is arriving." She said standing up and picking up her bag. "We should get out of here before they throw us out."

"It seems to me like you would be missing a fair part of the population of gits in the school if you skipped our house." Lucian said with a snort. Really he would admit he was not high about being a git himself most of the time.
"Then ignore them. They don't really matter after all. They'll be dead soon enough and then you'll be in complete control. So you might as well get used to it now." Lucian said with a matter of fact tone. He never listened to what any of the care takers told him so he at least in his mind had some freedom in that since.
"You say most girls, so does that mean you do not find boys disgusting?" Lucian asked curiously. He was still on the fence about girls, but then one seemed to have enough sense not to squawk about useless drivel.
"Just looked like you wanted to was all. I've spent a lot of time people watching." Lucian said with a confusing emotion on his face. He hated his talents for reading even when it came to body language.
"Great a grammar and hair nazi just what I've always dreamed of having round me.......Ich werde sprechen, wie ich wünsche Ihnen sprechen sie feuer zunge hund." Lucian muttered the German part looking towards the fire. Around the house German had been the language of choice, English had come second.
"At any rate I have to agree with ya, I don't totally hate you at this time.....for now." Lucian then played with the things of hair on the side of his face. "Hmm but then it would be just a normal mo hawk...."
"Scheibe!" Lucian tilted his head hearing the sound it was obvious now there was a reason why he was rarely seen. He got up immediately and made for the door intending to slip out just before the other students hit the door. He didn't really say good bye nor motion for Jane to follow or any such thing. Lucian seemed to bent on getting out of that room before there were lots of people.
((German: "I will speak as I wish to speak you fire tongued dog." "s**t!"))

"Well that's true," she replied tapping her chin thoughtfully with one finger. "I guess I could just avoid you and go after everyone else. Though if I didn't kick you then people would think there was something on between us." She added. "I guess I'll just remind you to wear a cup when I'm in the kicking mood."
Jane shrugged about his comment about her parents. She really didn't want to get into the whole sordid detail of her life, especially with the imminent arrival of the older students. She wasn't going to tell that sort of thing where they could hear it. It was better off being kept a secret.
"Not all the time." She said with another shrug of her shoulders. "Though there are some that drive me absolutely bonkers." She couldn't help but adding with a pointed smirk at him.
"Well..I may have wanted to, but I held myself back. People watching can be pretty entertaining," She said with an amused look on her face. "Especially when you make up the conversations they're saying."
Jane couldn't help but laugh at his next comment. Sure she preferred proper grammar but she was just playing around about his hair. Surely he knew that right? She sort of made out the german he said, as she had taken two years of german before she had come to Hogwarts. "What's that about me being a fire tongued dog? If anything I'm a fire tonqued snake."
Jane fingered the handle of her bag wondering where she should go now. She didn't have any more classes, and no homework to work on. It would be at least two hours before she was to meet with Taylor in the library so she would have to find something to spend her time on. She turned back to ask the mo hawk boy his name and saw that he was already moving to leave.
"How rude," She murmured and hoisted her bag up further on her shoulder and then followed after him intent on giving him another piece of her mind.
