So every year (at least, for the past couple of years) I set myself a reading goal. A couple of years ago I said I'd read 50 books in total and failed miserably, then last year I said 50 again, with at least 30 books I hadn't read before. I read the 30 within the deadline but only managed 47 overall. So this year I'm trying again. Same goals: 50 books, with 30 that I've never read before. Anyone want to join me? You can set whatever goal you like and just come in here to discuss how you're progressing c:

:3 That's pretty awesome.
I think I might join you! I need to work out the particulars... I'm going to be reading a couple dozen assigned books this semester for classes-- some in French, many written before the 19th Century. I'm thinking this will leave my brain scrambled.
D: Plus, at least 50% of the books I read are ones I've read before. I'll have to think about my goals.

Wow... that's an awesome goal. Unfortunately, work and school have made it so I rarely read anymore. My only goal is to finally finish my Brothers Grimm Fairy Tale Collection...only 300 more pages to go! xd

I'm thinking about setting a reading goal this year. Since high school started, I haven't been able to do much reading. Swim practice eats up all of my spare time. Hopefully I can read some over spring break. And I need to stop re-reading Percy Jackson...

That sounds like something I could never do. I read books because I love them, and enjoy taking my time with them. Setting a goal sounds too much like a chore. Reading should be a pleasure, not a chore.

I need to finish the young bond series, read the divine comedy, then read arrowsmith. Then I promised a friend I'd read hunger games. I'll probably ditch arrowsmith though.

During the summer, I plan to read at least one book a week.
I would like to keep up the same pace once the fall comes, though between work and classes, recreational reading is not a priority.

ohh this reminded me, I think in the beginning of the year I set myself a meager goal of 20 books. better go update that haha. in 2013 reading was the lowest priority on my list... thought I would pick up this hobby again. so far I've read 11 out of 20 books, just about finished Clash of Kings from the GoT series. i'd hate it if I only managed idk liek 19 or something before the year ends. gonk

Pickled Cactus ... just about finished Clash of Kings from the GoT series.
So, I started the show before the books because I remembered being told that the Darkly Dreaming Dexter books were terrible and mistakenly thought that it was the Song of Ice and Fire books that they told me about. By the time I realized my mistake, I was already several episodes in. TL;DR - How similar are the books to the series? Would I still enjoy reading them, considering I've already watched every episode of the T.V. series to date?

xxx Relevant to Topic: Being continually consumed by obsessive compulsive disorder, as I begin reading an author's works, I must, generally, complete as many as possible prior to moving on to another, with the exception of an unfinished series. I am currently enduring this process alongside my dear friend George Orwell; it has been some time since our last occasion. I have gone through this sequence in the past with, most notably as I recall them, Hermann Hesse, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Jonathan Swift, Max Weber, Philip K. d**k, Shakespeare, alongside various others. I quite enjoy philosophical and psychological literature. xxx Devtar; Having read through all available novels in George R.R. Martin's "A Song of Ice and Fire" series, as well as having seen the HBO series [to date], I would recommend that you also read the books, if the option is available. Although the television series is considerably accurate, I far prefer the arrayed depictions that Martin provides for the reader through written word. His style of literature is considerably straightforward, however he has a way of attraction that I feel the show cannot mimic to such a degree with its visual effect.
