Where do our spirit go when we pass on? Well, onto the Spirit World of course. It is a parallel world to our own where the recently departed spirits go to live alongside mythical creatures, monsters, demons, and characters that have been written in folk stories passed down the generations. The Spirit World is expansive and never ending realm filled with places that extend from the surreal to seemingly normal bustling cities. It is known that once a person’s spirit travels into this world they become ghosts and slowly develop into different types of of inhabitants found in the Spirit World based on their personality, how they died, and the history of their life. In the end, anyone who enters this world becomes a member of the Spirit World.

The only thing that protects the human world from this seemingly land of twilight is The Barrier. It is like an invisible force field that inhibits the inhabitants of the worlds from crossing over. There are permanent openings around the world that are heavily guarded, but allow direct access between the worlds. However, tears can form on the Barrier allowing spirits to sneak in and humans to accidentally find themselves in the Spirit World. Spirits of all sorts can peacefully coexist with humans. If a normal human being stumbles into the other world, all they will see is an expanse of darkness that stretches on forever. Lost and alone, they will not even be able to see or hear the spirits that they bump into or even are attacked by. However, the longer they remain in this world the clearer things become. Slowly they begin to see the dream like world and its inhabitants for they themselves are becoming a spirit. If they do not find a way out soon and their vision of this parallel world becomes clear, then they have fully passed on and will forever be a spirit.

While humans can slip into the Spirit World, so happens vice versa. Spirits find themselves in the human world, which they see clearly, though find themselves invisible to most human beings save for those who are sensitive to their presence, or hold the power to see them. It is those few who have the power to see spirits that become the ones to fight off the malicious spirits that enter into the human world. Those with such gift have formed the Arcane Society.

The Arcane Society is an ancient and powerful organization that deals with the spirits and monsters that have crossed through the barrier into the human world. It is a secret group whose headquarters is actually housed within an old castle in the country of Czech Republic, Europe. As with any large association there is a hierarchy, two classification system and multiple positions working together. Each of these is explained further in the below posts: What is a CardHolder and Positions in the Arcane Society. The Society trains incoming Cardholders who are then deployed to trouble spots around the world. The group is not only interested in combating evil spirits, but studying them as well for it houses the greatest collection of studied works on known spirit species, and more are waiting to be discovered. To learn more, see the Spirit & Monster post below.

۞ What is a CardHolder ۞

The CardHolders are the foot soldiers of the Society. Usually their destinies are determined very early in their lives when they begin to display unusual sensitivity towards the presence of spirits that develops into actually seeing and conversing with them. By this time they have been visited by Radik Yanikova who brings a stack of old tarot cards with him and with the cards faced down, asks the potential cardholder to choose one. Fate then plays out, for the selected card marks its choser, like a seal of partnership. This mark can be anywhere on ones body and will only appear after one has selected their card. Once the individual has chosen their card, Radik presents them with a mask that has been made especially for them by an ancient spirit known as the Mask Maker. These three things are essential for the agents of the Society because:

۩ The Card:
-The Upside: Holds the detail of one of the Major or Minor Arcana tarot cards, as well as the power the card grants to its user.
-The Downside: A CardHolder is still human, none of us are immortal even with our powers. Our lives are tied to the card we own. If something were to happen to the card, it directly affects use, like a voodoo doll, it is not something we want falling into the wrong hands. If the card is destroyed, we die. Or if a CardHolder passed on due to another circumstance, then that individual’s card disappears or is passed on to the next user .

۩ The Mark:
-The Upside: Once the sign of the tarot’s rune is burnt into one's skin, they can pass through the protective barrier separating the two worlds.
-The Downside: You are now branded by the card, the deal has been signed and there is no going back.

۩ The Mask:
-The Upside: A personalized mask that gives its wearer clarity in the Spirit World. It also provides minor protection to attacks.
-The Downside: Consequences of a broken or lost are less severe, but will hinder how a CardHolder can now do their jo. While we do not die if they are lost or destroyed, we are blind in the spirit world. The worst case for an unmasked CardHolder is to unknowingly slip into through barrier or a tear, for they would enter a world of darkness that spans on forever. To add as well, as we grow older, our masks age along with us. Rendering them less effective over time. However, even an unmasked CardHolder must continue protecting their card.

۩ Major Arcana:
Those who pick a card of a Major Arcane become something akin to magic users. This power is usually tied to the characteristic or specialty of the card itself. These people gain this special power that flows through their body. Trained well, they can develop their power and use it to fight evil.

۩ Minor Arcana:
Those who pick a card of a Minor Arcane become something akin to warriors. Their card unlocks an ancient weapon that holds an elemental power. The weapon type is based on the card chosen, the power of the weapon itself is determined by the chooser’s personality and strong traits. The only downside is that elements have there strengths and weaknesses. For example: A fire weapon will not do any damage onto a water foe, in fact the weapon itself may be damaged if the foe is powerful enough. You have been warned!

۩ Family Lineages:
The special skill of being sensitive to spirits has been known to be passed down through generations. Thus there are many families who have generations of CardHolders that can be traced in their family history’s. Such families have strong ties and loyalty to the Arcane Society. However, there are those who have no such family ties, but have become CardHolders. Sometimes they are found by their card’s predecessor who can pass on the card.

۩ Passing of The Card:
The Card remains loyal and bond to it holder. The only thing that can break this tie is death. Once a CardHolder dies, the next person in line will received the bond and become true keeper of the card. Thus, a card of a living CardHolder is usually not chosen when splayed out to a potential CardHolder. This also is tied into why many times those blood related to a deceased CardHolder usually receive that person’s card. The card moves in mysterious ways, but it is believed that it recognizes its former master’s relation and is more receptive to the potential CardHolder.
There is only one type of card that is known not to follow the regular passing, The Emperor Card. Because the status and position as Head of the Arcane Society usually is tied with this card, it reveals itself to the potential CardHolder early on. This gives it predecessor enough time to teach and train its successor, however it also signifies that death will come soon to that cardholder. For more information about this, please read Radik Yanikova’s profile.

The Minor Arcane CardHolders are keepers of powerful weapons that are given to them by Radik. These weapons are handed down alongside the card. Each type of card is known for the specific weapon, though the type of elemental power they display depends on their current cardholder. There is a downside. Elements have there strengths and weaknesses. For example: A fire weapon will not do any damage onto a water foe, in fact the weapon itself may be damaged if the foe is powerful enough. You have been warned!

۩Cups: Those of this card are generally are long distance fighter, careful in nature they prefer a safe vantage point to attack from and thus are giving weapons like a bow.

Şριяιτs & Мөпsґәяs…
…that linger behind the shadows

The thin barrier between the mortal and spirit world is dotted with holes and tears. Spirits sometimes find themselves in our world where they linger lost, find a friend, enjoy mischievous play, or cause havoc. Ultimately, they must be ushered back into the Spirit world either helpfully or by force. Yet Cardholders can make a pact with spirit, if this happens and is approved the spirit came be seen as a legal resident in the mortal world.

((We will be facing a whole host of spirits ranging from those written in mythical fables, religious script, various folklore from different countries, to poltergeists and demonic possession. These sightings will be posted here then classified under the three links.

Have an idea for a spirit?! Under those links you will also find the skeletons, so just fill out. Pm me a filled out spirit profile and maybe we can incorporate it into our story! Research the array of folklore or be creative!

Also, you can rp as the spirit or have it as a NPC))

۞ Headquarters of The Arcane Society ۞

This will be your home from now on! Nestled in the European landscape of Czech Republic is a castle known only as being privately owned by an old and noble family of the Yanikova's. It is actually the headquarters to the Arcane Society.

۞ Position in Arcane Society ۞

President: Radik Yanikova
-This is the Head Honcho of the Arcane Society who makes the ultimate decisions and is responsible for the outcome.

Head Assistant: Constance Le'Farie, Markus Shae, and Hidiyoshi Yamano
-One level below the Leader, the Head Assistant can step in as Temp Leader if something were to happen to the chief. The Society has two Head Assistants. One to deal with the Spirit aspect of the society and one to manage the staff and Castle Estate.

Diplomat: Markus Shae
- This position entails ambassadorship to the Spirit World and working alongside their government to ensure a peaceful coexistence. This person maintains the link of communication and partnership between the two worlds.

Erasers:
-This position is mainly in charge of making sure any hints of battle is fixed and memories are erased so that the existence of the society and spirit activity are not leaked out.

Field Leaders: Hidiyoshi Yamano
-Each team will have a team leader who is briefed about the mission and in charge of getting it done. They are responsible for their teammates and the shots they call.

Operative Card Holders:
-These are people who are Cardholders that are either on teams or are currently on leave

Professors:
-This are Card Holders who hold a teaching positions (see Arcane Academy Training and Courses)

Trainees:
-Newbie Card Holders who are still in training

Inactive Members:
-These are ex Card Holders who have either lost their mask or can no longer be on active duty. Usually a job within the society will be made for them.

Deceased:
-Members who have passed away

STAFF POSITIONS

There are Staff Positions as well. The skeleton for this may be found with the profiles. These are generally minor roles, but who knows what things might develop?! Staff are all non Cardholders {this does not include students with job positions} and don’t have powers or the ability of seeing spirits, or at least not strong enough to become a CardHolder. Yet some come from important families of the Society and are hired, thus keeping the secret within the circle. Because they can’t see spirits, staff carry around some sort of musical instrument to ward off and protect against spirits. Ex: bells, whistle, maracas, tambourine, etc. These are specially crafted pieces that are given to staff to use when they feel or find themselves being harmed by spirits. The sound from the item sounds normal, but they reverberate a sound of alarm as well as immobilizes the spirit to grant some time for escape. Another perk of the job is that they have the best gossip on everyone.
Staff Positions are: Cook, Librarians, Gardeners, and Servants.

Cooks:
-Maintain the kitchens, announce the day's specials, and provide food to the Common's Dining Hall, GrayHound Lounge, and to events.

Librarians:
-Maintain the Scholar and Common's Library. As well as the Spirit encyclopedia; cataloging any explorers new findings.

Gardeners:
-Someone has to maintain the Castles beautiful grounds and provide fresh cut flowers to Radik's desk. {A Solarium may be established soon, so it would go under the gardeners domain.}

Servants:
-While students must keep their own dorms clean, servants keep the castle and general areas clean as well as other household chores.

۞ TEAMS/SOLOS ۞

As our story progresses and our students mature as cardholders, they will be put into teams of at least two or more. Each team can also come up with a team name, which they would be known as until they disband. During regular day a situation may arise where an overhead speaker will request a certain team to be dispatched on the field.

Field Group 1:
Field Group 2:

Soloist: There are few Card Holders who can be on the field solo, but there are certain restrictions for selection. They are usually the best of the best who can't partake in group teams or are bounty hunters for notorious monsters. Regulations are also set to keep them in check. Example: The leader will review and interview applicants before allowing them Solo Clearance. (This is also a way for those who have been around the rp a long time to have some freedom to explore). More will be revealed later!!

Requirements
To apply you need to have completed:
- Level 5 training, which is the Master level
- Have been a Team Leader
- Have a trained/legal spirit sidekick.
-Some Solo types request extra requirements

Solos - none so far

Solo types:

-Bounty Hunter: Sometimes a wanted shows up for a specific spirit be it for research or because of criminal activity. A bounty hunter takes on the job to find, capture, and bring back the spirit. Reward varies on the difficulty of the job, which is ranked by stars.
Easy: ☼ Good or Bad spirit that is quite easy to capture
Medium: ☼☼ A Bad spirit causing problems in a heavily populated area that needs certain amount of tact to quietly remove. (hence solo not team)
Elusive: ☼☼☼ Hard to track down and/or bring back
Pro: ☼☼☼☼ Dangerous! Usually an Ugly spirit. You may want to call back-up

-Solo Explorer: These soloists trek to places unknown or of known spirit activity to discover new. They can sometimes live nomadic lifestyles, disappearing for long periods of time before coming back to publish their findings in the Scholar’s Library. There is a certain amount of prestige given to those who find new and very interesting species.
Extra requirement: You need to have held a successful job as Spirit Explorer

-Diplomat: Being an active diplomat is considered a soloist type job because you usually work alone if you are not in the office and travel a great deal into the spirit world. You need to be prepared and know how to act when interacting with those of the Spirit World and its government. Diplomats must be careful of prolonged exposure to the Spirit World or they may slowly find themselves turning into a spirit. Also, they must be very cautious not to lose or have their mask destroyed. Even though a Card Holder can make out spirits they lose the masks protective powers, one of which is that you now become as blind as Lost Souls (see Seeker below for explanation). The effect that grows on a Lost Soul…will now apply to you. Best to have a good amount of allies in this world.
Extra Requirement: Apprenticeship under a current Diplomat as your Master Level choice

-Seeker: This is a special type of soloist. They travel into the Spirit World looking for lost people who may have accidentally slipped in. Remember that if a normal human being slips into the Spirit World…all they see is darkness, as if they have gone blind. And the darkness goes on and on, though some, Lost Souls, slowly turn into Spirits, slowly gaining sight of they world they now travel in. However, it’s the Seeker’s job to find the person before they can clearly see the Spirit World. For if that person can clearly see the Spirit World, than their soul belongs here. Essentially they have died.
Extra Requirement: A Seeker ‘must’ have some Bounty Hunter and Diplomat Experience. They need to know how to survive in the Spirit World and be proficient trackers. Lost Souls attract hungry Ugly spirits, which are plenty. Also, a Seeker must be careful about staying too long in the Spirit World. Though they can stay much longer than a Diplomat could, the will eventually have the same fate, including if their mask is destroyed/lost, but if a Seeker does become a spirit, the actually result is quite unique…{A story in development pertains to this section!!}

۞ Power of the Minor Arcana ۞

The real reason behind minor arcana is to give the society an edge against elemental spirits. There are major arcana that come with elemental powers, but minor arcanas are warriors, the army of the society. Major arcana, mainly have powers to help tip the battle in their favor and more importantly affect other holders of cards and other artifacts. (This will become important to the story once we progress!)

So, the minor arcane are best at attacking elemental creatures that their infused power has an advantage over.
-A water weapon will do great damage onto a fire element creatures, such as a fire imp.
- A fire weapon can do great damage to creatures of the earth such as woodland sprites. If there is enough fury and intensity to the flame’s power, then it can heavily damage earthen/ground/ rock creatures.
-Lightening can course through the body of earth type creatures, making them shatter/splinter/and depending on intensity, light on fire.
-Earth’s power is usually a damage dealer and hardy so it’s usually used to attack creatures of great armor of any element (save lightening and ethereal creatures). It’s historical use was to break through armor, shields, and gauge into fortresses. It can be used against the earth itself to cause earthquakes. Yet, earth power has a dark counterpart, if used wrongly and tainted, it can counter holy power and shields/barriers (like dark power does. More to come on this too.)
-Wind has an edge on water in that contact with wind, a water creature’s slippery body. It can course through the creature and depending on the type of attack may cause water to evaporate (hot wind) or harden and shatter (cold wind).
- Holy really doesn't have much advantage over elemental spirits, though their attacks will do damage it's really against dark spirits/creatures that holy infused weapons do incredible amounts of damage, 'super-effective' if you will. Usually holy light and essence can affect shadow creatures, creatures that seem to be made up of smoke, and creatures of ‘hell’.

Also, when attacking some creatures of certain element, these powers will do a little damage or none in some cases.
-Someone attacking a water creature with fire power will have more harm done to their weapon (might extinguish your fire power for awhile), unless the creature is in ice form.
-Attacking a lightening creature with water powered weapon = not smart…don’t do it…
-Wind can disrupt lightening power/ or creature’s ability to use their power, but won’t do much actually damage itself and can give the wielder someone static electric shock or to those the wielder touches. There has been heavy voltage transfer/electric shocks cases reported too…
-Wind doesn’t do much damage on earth creatures usually, unless they are made of sand…

* I have partially based "which element would win over which," on the strategy used in Pokemon biggrin

In the case of Minor Arcana I will jot down a few things:
-Their weapons, when not infused with elemental power, can still cause physical harm to susceptible being (humans, animals, and even certain types of creatures). Of course attacking someone with an active elemental weapon will do a lot of damage as well. However, their weapon alone is usually useless on an elemental spirit, unless it is relatively weak, of flesh, or other cases.

-There aren’t major arcana with holy powers, the closet to wielding to such power is currently Milos, whose power is light, not holy, though it is effective against dark creatures, it isn’t nearly as damaging as true holy infused powers.
