I've been to Sakura Con a few times but every time we've been there to pick up our badges right at whatever time is listed- so if it's 3-9pm we are there at 2:45/3pm. However, this year we are planning on doing a bit of pre-con shopping around Seattle so we won't make it so early.

Anyway, does anyone know how the end times listed (when they get listed, that is) work? For example, if it says 3-9- does that mean they will just stop serving people at 9 and send away anyone else in line or does that mean no one can get in line after 8:59 but everyone in line at that time is safe.

Hope someone can answer cause i always over think these things 4laugh

It means the lines for pre-reg pick-up close at 9. Its okay. It doesn't hurt to be overly cautious with this sort of thing. Something ALWAYS goes horribly wrong when I go, no matter how much I prepare.

In the past they usually just stop letting people in at 9 actually and finish off the line since there are usually a minimal amount of people by that time. There are more pre-reg this year though so they might start turning people away around 9 or before to prevent them being there all night.

I've been really nervous about Pre-Reg with the 8,000+ people that will be there. I don't want to be in line forever. sweatdrop But if its anything like last years line, all should go well. 3nodding

Last year I pre-reg and was there Friday morning and still had to wait two hours or more in line to get my badge. This year we are picking up on Thursday to hopefully avoid that. Or if not reduce the wait at least get it over with ahead of time.

I had to register my brother Friday morning last year. crying We were in line for so long!
We're getting there Thursday too, but sadly we found out our hotel won't let us check in until 3, so we'll probably get in the pre-reg line around 3:30. 3nodding If it does take hours, I'll at least have my DS. smile

Bermese,
A couple of thoughts that might help:
1. The published check in time by hotels is the time they 'guarantee'. It's so they know they have time between official check out and check in for the maids to clean the rooms. Obviously a lot of people check out prior to the 'official' time and the maids don't finish all the rooms right at 3 PM. Quite often if you show up at the counter and ask if you can check in 'now' they will let you if they have a room like what you reserved already clean. I've done it many times.

2. Even if they don't have a room ready yet they will probably let you leave your bags and/or park your car. My hotel told me we could do either / both if we arrived before they had a room ready.

Naturally most hotels want your experience to be as enjoyable as possible so you think about them the next time you travel. Letting you in a room early or park your car in their lot creates good will and doesn't cost them anything extra. In some cases it may even help them get some customers checked in before the evening 'rush'.

I'm hoping being there on Thursday will make things go faster for me. Last year I was pre-registered and my friend was not. I DID get through the lines faster but not super fast for having already paid and having a bar code and stuff. The actual check in once I reached the counter was pretty fast but they had a lot more counter people dealing with the non-registered than the preregistered. So I waited about two hours and I think my friend who wasn't registered waited about three.

You are welcome.
I hope it goes smoothly for you.

My friend and I plan to check out the aquarium and/or maybe some other sites before and after getting our badges on Thursday. If nothing else we'll be able to get a decent night's sleep and not have to worry about driving 100 miles Friday morning. smile

I think my friends and I are going to Gameworks on Thursday, if not I'm making them go to Barnes and Nobles with me. xd

I'd never heard of Gameworks but I googled.
I gather it's and adult chuckie cheese with better food and maybe better games. smile

I usually check into my room around noon with no issues on Thursday.

Also the thursday pre-reg goes WAY faster than any other day because usually all of the reg staff is there that day so all booths are open. Also then you aren't missing anything since nothing starts till Friday morning.

David there are SO MANY things to check out in Seattle if you've never been here before. The Seattle aquarium is awesome, so is Pike Place market, Seattle Viaduct, Space Needle, Seattle Center, Woodland Park Zoo, Boeing Factory tour, Seattle Underground (the old Seattle that was under water).... etc etc etc. If your a coffee fan you can even visit the very first Starbucks LOL

Glad to hear that about Thursday. That's what I was hoping for. smile

Thanks about Seattle. I've actually been there quite a few times. I used to live in Bremerton and for many years I've lived about a one and a half hour drive from Seattle. Last year I had a membership at the science center. We didn't go too often but enough that it was cheaper than if we didn't join. But yeah, there is some fun / neat stuff in Seattle.

I'll just post this about the aquarium... it is freakn' expensive for a whole lot of nothing. It's about $19... and there isn't much to see. sweatdrop

On the pre-reg side... I just hope that we can get down there and get our passes before dinner time. Otherwise there will be colossal toddler meltdown... that is never a good thing.

My first year way back when, I was stupid and didn't pre reg. I was in line for 3 hours, 2 of which was in the rain. Lucky for me a staff member hung out with me with an unbrella.
