At goodwill, it's my job to put shopping carts full of newly processed donations out on the shopping floor. There are people who wait around for hours at a time to see new carts everyday. We call them cart vultures. whee There are several varieties:
Grandmas have nothing better to do, so they look for crafty things and stuff for their grandkids. They're usually pleasant and will chat with you and each other. Sometimes they'll hang around all day.
Resellers are just looking for stuff they could make money off of reselling online. They are fast, efficient, and highly territorial. (Not kidding, they go through the carts like a marine looking for bullets, and they get PISSED if somebody grabs something before they do.) They have the most predatory appearance and will not chat unless they have a friend with them.
Young/moving Couples are married folk who need new stuff for a new house. They always have a hopeful look on their faces, and they look mostly for furniture and housewares. They love to ask questions about specific things they need or want.
Single/alone Men are more rare. At least, they were up until this month, when we started seeing more of them. (The other cart vultures are all women, aside from the married men shopping with their wives.) The younger ones are more aloof and like to pretend that they're really not browsing the new stuff; they are not chatty. The older ones don't care and will dive in alongside the Grandmas, talking to anyone who'll listen.
You can always tell a cart vulture, even at a distance. When you push a cart out onto the floor, their heads whip around like a kid hearing the ice cream truck. And they always look like they're waiting for something.
Sometimes, I see the evidence left behind by the elusive Ninja Cart Vulture. I've been told they don't exist, but I've seen my carts get messed up while I was in the back when there didn't appear to be anyone out on the sales floor shopping. Someday, I hope to spot one and learn more about their behavior. whee

Wait...
Are we talking about watching the cart vultures?
Or are we now talking about watching the people that watch the cart vultures?
I'm confused @_@

Purple: That is probably the best story I've heard all day! (Just cause it's the only story I've heard all day has nothing to do with that fact though.) And I'd believe the WHOLE thing too! *stuffs black ski mask in seat cushion* I would love to just come down and watches some of these people you talk about sometime.
Dude: Of course man! I mean at any time and place they can be quite fascinating or quite amusing. I use to people watch all the time when I was out, though lately I've been in more (could have something to do with the cold though) and I was always entertained by watching people. My mother and I use to meet a friend of ours at the casino and we'd watch the people coming off the boat and you could easily tell who won, who won big, who lost, who lost big, who came only for the drinks, and those that just came for something to do. It amused the heck out of me.

I suppose if you look at it like that.
But it still seems odd to me.
But I'm of mind that says, video games are more entertaining... meh...
