It is a European holiday for exchanging gifts. Christmas is supposed to be a day of family, religion, and remembrance. Boxing day is the day when the gifts are exchanged. heart

Hmm, I wonder how that got started. It wasn't until the last half of the 19th century that Christmas even became a family holiday. Up to that point, it was just another drinking holiday, and a lot of groups actually banned its celebration because of that, including the puritans who settled New England.

The Bank Holidays Act of 1871 in the UK designated it as a banking holiday.

I agree! They try to find every excuse to be off!! ...I'm actually -very- shocked that there isn't a "September 11" Bank Holiday here in the USA. >_>;

Why do they get so many days off?
They're no better then anyone else!
Another thing to add to my list of reasons why I hate powerful oganizations. (like, microsoft, walmart, and the government)
