Within the past weekend Furaffinity has suffered an attack by hackers! While yes, this does sound like a bad thing because many Admins, even site owner/operator Dragoneer himself had some of their galleries cleaned out, their status revoked to either "member" or "deceased", and some popular furs had their journals posted with a "Sorry for me sucking" or "I'll do free arts", one thing DID come from this. We all get to see how Dragoneer really is.

Ironically, three days ago, Dragoneer posted a journal saying "OH noes, Gawker site had been attacked, better change your passwords people!". Turns out, one of his own Admin didn't follow that advice. This resulted in the hacking. Or maybe it was that and the POORLY coded security holes many techy fur geeks pointed out and 'Neer replied by simply sticking his middle finger into one of them like the Little Dutch Boy. Then, Friday, the attack first happened and people started to worry, seeing the layout on FA get jumbled. 'Neer posted a Tweet saying "Don't worry we're on it". How does Dragoneer respond? He does the reasonable thing and calls up the server cell holding place, identifies himself as the owner of the site, and has the site pulled down, giving the site a chance to be safe while having his tech team of two and a half guys work on it so things don't get out of hand. He sits on his butt and, umm, drinks a beer and makes a few phone calls, I don't know. Soon after he posted that "Working on it" tweet the hacker messed with some journals and galleries.

Saturday

Dragoneer posts a Bush-esque "Mission accomplished" journal, and right soon afterward, his and all the other Admin accounts are changed to some other status, his and a few other Admin galleries are cleared out, and the people start to really feel bad...

Just as you think things couldn't get worse, apparently the hackers started to release ALL the notes passed around by the Admin... Now, this right here freaked everyone out and started to double-delete their notes with any information on them. ....which is futile since the notes aren't SSL (or, whatever, I heard some techy fur say something like that), meaning even if you trash and trash the notes you have they'll STILL be hidden on the server. But what gets leaked aren't simple notes from every day folks like you or I, no, it's the Admin's notes! Some of which show people being ignored while claiming some Admin are abusing their power, and Dragoneer actually getting along with the zoophiles and cub porn folks.

Now, the note that was read around the net was a gem about a girl coming to Dragoneer wanting advice on an artist on there raping her. Her story does sound pretty wobbly, but if you start off on the middle ground here, you'd side with the girl as pulling the rape card not only isn't something one should joke about, but people who are scared do stupid things (my mother put up with over 18 years of abuse all because she was afraid. Some humans act very, very stupidly when afraid of people). What's Dragoneer's advice? He simply says that he won't take a side, and says not to say anything as his fan base would cause a ruckus. Yes. You read that right. The site owner and operator, the guy you have that is supposed to make sure creeps aren't on this site tells a young women to shut up and keep quiet because some popular fur's fanboys would rally up and cause drama.

Once this Holy Grail of notes was leaked, MANY furs went to Dragoneer's newest journal of "oops, we didn't have the site in order" and commented, wanting to know why this guy would turn away a rape victim and allow this rapist to stay on the site. You know what he says? He said that it's not rape. [caps of one of his comments]. Apparently, not wanting to have sex with someone but having sex out of fear is the same as saying yes in Dragoneer's head. You read that right. 'Neer honestly believes she wasn't raped. As the comments go on, he keeps insisting it wasn't rape and HE doesn't believe the act was. Then, we see this great comment in another journal "explaining" the Zaush situation (which was just another attempt to have his blind followers praise him and boost his ego):


OH! THAT'S the part that says it was rape, that WHOLE ENDING OF THE PARAGRAPH that has so much detail of what happened with her that would make people have a shiver go down their spine because of how creepy Zaush was with her. Oh, I see, SO, first it's not rape, then it's "I didn't read her whole note so I guess that's a my bad on my part for not listening". Classy, I sure like to know that my site operator will TL;DR my note and not read the part WHERE SOMETHING IMPORTANT HAPPENED.

I know what some of the people are thinking though. How could you know the story of the girl is true? Well... For one, the rapist in question, Zaush, FREELY ADMITS he had sex with that women. No denying. Then, we see this comment in the second journal. ...no, it's not there anymore, and apparently I was like the ONLY person to have screen capped it when it was up briefly:


Wow. Just. Wow. So, we not only hear this women was attacked sexually by Zaush, and in some other notes floating around she even LISTED others who went through the same thing, but he admits right there that his own girlfriend was having the same situation going on with him. ...I honestly wanted to throw up after reading all of this myself. Anyone who has a loved one, doesn't even have to be a boy/girlfriend, anyone you love who might have someone doing this kind of wrong to them, anyone else would have done something about this. SOMETHING. Not Dragoneer. Why does he put up with Zaush? Furry Popularity. I could argue that he doesn't know what rape really is, but with how much flip-flopping he's doing about the issue, it's like watching a small kid lying more and more about him no breaking the cookie jar when he did.

Here is the good news about all of this. Yes, the site was compromised and things got moved around and private messages were leaked (a whole website filled with them much like a furry version of Wiki leaks is up since late last night). But we all get to see the scum that is Dragoneer and how he thinks. I for one thought the guy was shady with how he would bend over backwards and change the AUP for popular furs (like the couple times he tried to ban cub porn, beasty porn, and lolita stuff), but my god, protecting a rapist? I for one won't be posting any more artwork on that site. After a few months I might even just clean the galleries out and use Furocity or Artpiles as an archive with my stuff just so it's still up somewhere. I can put up with poor coding, lack of features, frequent AUP/ToS changes, but I will not support a man who thinks rape is alright just because you're popular. It's pretty sad when a hacker messing with a site winds up being the lesser of the evil that is on FA huh?


No fancy text font colors, only one goofy joke image to start off lightly. Just simply reporting the troubles that are going on at Furaffinity. Apologies for the minor page stretching. I know the content here is really pushing the PG13 thing, but Furaffinity is like, THE furry site that has tons of folks meet up and post artwork and such and this is really an important issue that needs to be heard.

Yeah, I agree with Khleo. I don't know very much about 'Neer, but because of this little "incident".. I can say I don't like him. Even if this girl is telling the truth, his excuses were less than what I would expect for someone who runs the most popular furry art website on the internet. "Oh, let's defend the popular guy so I don't have to deal with anymore drama. Kthxbai." ... What?

However, I will not be leaving FA. Mainly because of the fact that I enjoy the fast upload times and the quality of the finished art when it's actually on the site. That's the only reason I switched from deviantART to there.

All of this pretty much sucks. But in my opinion Fur Affinity is like the facebook of the furry community. It feels like almost everyone has one.
I would switch over to something else but I stalk a lot of people that I don't know I would be able to find again sweatdrop

This sort of thing is the reason why I honestly don't really like showing myself out in the open. I already told some people about how I see what's going on in the fandom.

In honesty, I don't give a damn on what the hell sexuality or your view on sex is. If you keep it under the radar and don't make it my problem, fine. So yeah, this doesn't change anything for me. He just needs to learn how to keep it in his pants as much as possible.
This is a prime example of how showbiz television is born.

Btw, you guys sure you can't smuggle me to the states? There's a few weeds I've noticed in the fandom that could use a lil pruning.... That rapist, for example.... Hmm....

Yeah, I'm disgusted with the fandom myself. I know there are some furries out there with a brain still in their head, but they're few and far between. The majority of the fandom are disgusting yiff-obsessed freaks who need to be locked in a cellar away from modern society.

However.. No matter how retarded or disgusting the fandom gets, I can honestly say I will not stop being furry. You guys are the only sensible furries I've ever met.. So, I'll just stay here! Detach myself from the mainstream fandom, as it were.

This doesn't really affect me because I'm not on that site but still hacking bad. That and it is a federal offense (both in Canada and America). one group on Yahoo I was in back in the day Yahoo Clubs was still around, someone hacked a group I was in and bragged about it. The board owner got the FBI involved and I'd like to assume the hacker is still in jail, though since that was back in 1998-1999 or so who knows.

Khleo: Yeah, you have a point there. The fandom isn't really that bad. I mean, it could always be worse. It could definitely be worse.
The media could be reporting this and making us look worse than they already have, or that the undesirables of the fandom have done themselves.
