:: General Information ::

The Nowhere Islands were first founded by Ghenza. They are the equivalent of a prison. Recently, Ghenza has informed other Weyrwomen and Weyrleaders of its existence.

The very first 'inmate' was one of Ghenza's own goldriders, Norari and her gold, Dedeith. The woman became very power hungry and began to abuse her status. She also convinced her gold to force other dragons to oblige whatever she wanted, and her intentions were always greedy.

At first, Ghenza was lenient of this behavior because they were in desperate need of more golds. But, when Dedeith supposedly became too old to have any more clutches, they became fed up. Some were so angry they rallied for Norari's execution, but most did not like the idea of harming Dedeith - or any dragon - just to get revenge on the rider.

Norari was not the only guilty person in Ghenza. Thievery became a big problem, and there were some murders. Many of these people were also riders.

Eventually, Ghenza ordered to have a prison built on a lone island occupied by no other Weyr or Hold. This became known as 'The Nowhere Island'. Other islands close by were soon made into homes for the dragons of the prisoners and the guards, along with their dragons.

To the surprise of Ghenza's council, Dedeith not only rose again, she had a very strange clutch. Most were dud eggs, many went between, but a few did live and Impressed to some of the island's guards that did not already have dragons. Among them was a very strange brown with visible red markings.

Fearing repercussions from the general public for shipping off a gold that could still clutch, Ghenza's council informed the people that Dedeith had gone between. The guards were then sworn to secrecy and became destined to live out their lives on the islands.

Over time, the people of Ghenza mostly forgot about the islands except on the rare occasion someone else was also sent there. No other Weyrs or Holds ever knew of it until now, and no one but the guards that reside there, the Weyrwomen and Weyrleaders, and the important figures of Ghenza know that it harbors strange, strange dragons...

:: Prisoner Information ::

All prisoners of the Nowhere Islands are both criminals and riders. They were sent here as an alternative to execution or banishment (since being out and about with Threadfall looming over them would get their dragon killed for sure). Most of their crimes are very severe. Some people, though, have just stolen too much, disobeyed the rules too much or something less drastic.

Most are probably guilty, but some may be innocent and still found guilty.

The reasons someone can be sent to the islands include:

- Being found guilty of murder.

- Being found guilty of attempted murder. If the attempt was against someone with a low rank, the person may not end up here, depending.

- Continuous stealing. People here for this reason are most likely to be from Ghenza.

- Abuse of power by a goldrider. Goldriders that convince or allow their dragons to abuse their abilities can be sent here by the senior gold. If they are the senior gold, they can be overthrown by the people under the right circumstances.

- Rape. Mating flights do not count as rape. Rape counts as rape, and if they're found guilty of it, a character may be sent here as a result.

- Being blackmailed of a crime and found guilty.

- Admitting to guilt in spite of innocence.

Prisoners on the islands are not abused, but they are not treated kindly, either. The food is gross, they are forced to labor away at whatever chore is demanded of them and they are kept in cells at night and many times during the day.

Their dragons do not live on the island with the prison, but rather remain housed on a neighboring island where the guards and their dragons live. The prisoner's dragons are warned that any misbehaving could result in their rider's execution. There have been cases of prisoner's being executed because of their dragon's actions.

Reasons a dragon can cause their human to be executed include, but are not limited to:

- Leaving the island without permission.

- Trying to form a riot or break out.

:: Guard Information ::

The Nowhere Island guards are among some of the most rough-and-tumble people on Pern. They are not to be messed and their dragons or whers not to be taken lightly.

In the event two prisoners (or a prisoner and a guard) have children, they are taken in by the guards and raised as one of them. The guards also have their own children.

Guards and their dragons live on neighboring islands to that of the prison when they are not on duty. They are not allowed to be near the prison off-the-clock. This helps know where to place the blame in the cause of guard x prisoner pregnancies, break outs, so on.

There are two guards:

The Wher Guard - The Wher Guard are in control of guarding the prison itself and therefore the prisoners. Every wher on the islands, unless they are retired or injured, are in this guard. They are allowed to arrest troublemakers and use force when necessary.

The White Guard - Every whiterider is in this group. They are in charge of guarding prisoner's dragons and are permitted to use force when necessary. The riders are expected to make the dragons as comfortable and happy as possible (unless they're breaking the rules).

:: Firelizard Limitations ::

The Nowhere Islands, like Ghenza, does not have limitless resources.

Guards are allowed one Firelizard each. Others must be sent away and if need be eggs must be destroyed.

Prisoners are not allowed firelizards under any circumstances.

New colors!

The Nowhere Islands are the native home (and currently the only place to find) red, purple, black and white dragons; as well as dragons that have the 'blended mutation'.

Red Dragons

Red dragons are mutated from brown dragons. Many have started to suspect a mix of 'color genes' are to thank for brown dragons, and that somehow these went awry and eventually resulted in a pure red color. This happened over time. See 'blended dragons' and 'history' for more.

Red dragons are the sizes of a brown. They may fly gold dragons and black dragons and have a higher success rate than browns because they are slightly faster. They follow brown Impression standards, thus they normally only Impress to men. They are the second most common of the new colors, but only clutches with one black or one red parent have them.

Purple Dragons

Purple dragons are the most common of the new colors. They first appeared after a red flew a gold, and are the color responsible for understanding how it all began. See 'blended dragons' for more info!

Purples are the size of blues and follow typical blue standards. They Impress to men and women. They can not fly a gold or a black dragon, but may fly greens -- and whites if they want to put their manhood at risk, so to speak. They are as common as blues on Nowhere Islands, but only clutches with one black or one red parent have them.

White Dragons

Oh, those whites. They're... something, let me tell you! You better look at this before you think of trying to Impress one!

Black Dragons

Black dragons? Erm... Oh. Are you sure you're old enough for this talk? Well, okay. You should look here if you really want to know.

Blended Dragons

Whites are not considered 'blended' because it has been accepted their extra color is part of the species. Blended dragons are now obsolete, as they have evolved to remain a solid color. Any blended dragons will have older riders and be older themselves. They are mutants and genetically inferior.

The term 'blended dragon' is actually slang, and they are considered whatever color dominates. For example, the above dragon would be a purple dragon. The first blended dragons appeared after a red flew a gold. They may vary some, but overall tend to follow their fathering colors. A 'blended' purple dragon will be most likely act as a blue still (and remain on blue lines) and so on.
