All About Black Dragons
● They are an unknown mutation, but like whites, are assumed to be a side effect of their genetically inferior lineage. Blacks only appear in clutches where both parents are mutant; their mother must be black and their father must be red.
● There is rumor having more than one black dragon on the island at any one time drives the eldest into madness faster. But it's just a rumor. (Probably.)
● Blacks are the size of golds and are always female, same as golds.
● Blacks can clutch (lay eggs), which until now, has been something reserved for only golds. They may be flown by browns, reds and bronzes.
● Blacks can Impress to anyone, but they must be Force Impressed.
● When a black dragon hatches, they have immediate access to everyone's thoughts, feelings and personalities at the same time. This drives them mad and they quickly go between just to quiet the noise.
● Once Impressed, they are able to shut their mind off from others; however, they may still hear the thoughts of humans other than Theirs if they so choose. They have a strange kind of empathy and can 'sense' the feelings of those around them whether they want to or not. For that reason, blacks can only Impress to those with a strong mind.
● Those that try and fail to Impress a black dragon end up going mad.
● Blackriders eventually become mentally unstable.
● Black dragons are the rarest on all of Pern.
● Many people do not support Impressing black dragons at all.

Are blacks RP required like golds?
Yep. We know you have a life, so we don't expect you to be turning out an RP every day. But these are dragons you can't just get, then leave the shop and never come back without most of the other colors.
Do the breeding rules for golds apply to blacks?
Yep. If you're unsure what those are, see the thread front page under the breeding post.
Can blacks really Impress to male PC candidates?
Yep!
Can a blackrider ever become a Weyrwoman?
Probably not. No Weyr we know of would let them, and with their short lifespan...
If these dragons drive their riders insane, why would anyone want one?
Good question! I sure as hell wouldn't. Being a blackrider is NOT for everyone! The reason most people try to Impress a black dragon is because they're arrogant and are positive they'll be different than those blackriders.

Sorry, but no. Black dragons will inevitably 'corrupt' their riders. No exceptions. The candidates that have their eye on a black, or even new blackriders, are free to think they're special compared to the other ones. But, they aren't. Not special enough, at least!
So, are you saying my blackrider (if I obtained one) is eventually going to die?
Yes, but probably not for a long, long while OOC. It takes about 6-8 months OOC for 1 turn IC, and all PC blacks would live at least 3. Sooo...
Why do black dragons drive their owners into being batshit crazy?
The connection between dragon and rider is deep within the mind, and black dragons have very complex ,crazed minds. They're too complex, in fact. They're empaths, meaning they can feel what those around them feel. This makes them unstable from the start, and with their mind influencing their riders...
There's a lot more to it than that, but for now, this will be a secret shared between RP staff and the blackriders themselves!
If my character Impresses a black, what are the 'stages' of them going bonkers?
Staff will let you know if you obtain one!

What kind of candidate can Impress a black? Is there a special training program like for whites?
12-30, male or female with any suitable personality are applicable for black Impression! We don't want any godmoding, though. No flawless, fearless characters who don't have any fear about it at all. If you do have a character like this, we expect it to be played as a flaw rather than something to envy. Be realistic as possible with their feelings and reactions, please.
There is no special candidacy for blacks like with whites. It's only a matter of who dares to try.
How do you decide blackriders OOC?
Blacks will always be contested OOC and their riders decided OOC before they even hatch. Similar to how we know do gold Impressions.
