It seemed most fitting to post this in here. I plan on mentioning the usually oopsies of profile creation and some usually mistakes people do when they make their characters.

Here is my reasource for this, which I typed in my own guild to help role players.

The threads that I want to point out:

Threads helpful for starting a new character into a new story or role play:

These can be useful for while you play your character, and are things you should always consider before you post in a role play:

Basically, when you make a character, your goal should always be to make that character as real, life like, as you can possibly get. If you can make it sound like the character is a real person, then you are halfway to becoming a very good role player. The more details you add, the better things usually turn out.

When you play a character in a role play, consider what they can and can't do at the moment. Don't hit your opponent instantly, for they may have a way to escape or counter that you didn't think of.

Don't 'read' your opponent's thoughts. If it isn't in "Quotes" then you can't hear it. You may be able to see it, but if it is a though, you wont know what they are thinking, unless you are playing a role play where you are a physic character, able to read thoughts of others.

Avoid the to few details. If you are stuck on what to put down, thing about what your character might be thinking, feeling, smelling. What is happening around them? Do they feel the sweat trickle down their back as they move? Are they sad from just watching their loved one die in their arms? Are they angry?

Emotions are be a big part of your character, and should be a be a big part of your role playing as well. In real life, you feel stuff all the time. You think all the time. Make your character do the same. Trust me, the little things do count.

Of course, I forgot a big portion of character creation: Flaws and Strengths.

Every character should have a flaw as well as certain strengths. People do, so your character should as well. Maybe they are smart, but not very strong. Maybe they are smart and strong, but not fast. Maybe they can get confused very easily. Remember, you are essentially making a whole person.

Give them bad habits, like maybe when your character is nervous, have them play with their fingers, pulling on their index finger. Maybe they chew their nails, bit their lip. Give them human actions. Even a shrug of the shoulders when role playing can make a difference. Don't just have the 'strong silent type'. Everyone seems to make them, so do something different!
