((To give us the two threads, just in case we decide to really mate them, this can be the one where he rescues her~))

User Image Shin was walking by the beach, his golden accessories clinking gently as he walked. It was a peaceful, beautiful day in the neighborhood there on the beachline, and nothing could disturb it--

Except the sound of a fellow Modifox in trouble!

Dashing toward the sound rather than away from it, like some foxes would have done, Shin only surveyed the situation for a moment before reacting.

An apparently injured Modiphim was against a tree, a large cougar forcing her into a corner--she hadn't just flown away because of an obvious attack to one of her wings. Oh, this wasn't good!

"Hey, furbrain!" Shin shouted, then picked up a fallen tree branch between his teeth and charged the cat at full speed--a bit awkward since the branch kept hitting the ground, but it did its job and startled the beast enough for Shin to drop the branch and tackle it away from the 'Phim: he only hoped she could get at least a little bit away.

"It's okay!" Shin managed as he wrestled with the snapping, snarling thing. "Go on!"

Naste quickly followed Shin's orders, putting as much distance between herself and the cougar as she could. She had never been much of a fighter, and so if she tried to help, she'd probably only get in the way. Especially with an injured wing like she had.

Much to her relief however, the blue fox managed to scare the cougar of, and she breathed a sigh of relief. She would hate for him to be injured on her account.

She went back to him, slowly, awkwardly, a bit off-balance because of her injured wing. It looked like she wouldn't be flying for a while. But that was okay. She was still alive, wasn't she?

"Thank you," she told him, half expecting him to disappear as quickly as he had come.

"No problem," Shin responded with a slightly breathless grin. "Never liked to leave a lady in need," He nudged the old tree branch out of his way to go over to her, more concerned with her wing than anything. He hadn't met very many 'Phims in his life, but he knew a hurt wing was pretty serious to them.

"You should rest," Shin suggested, tilting his head slightly at it. "Definitely not fly, duh. Hm...I might know some herbs that could help it heal faster, if you want, um..." It was about then that he realized he didn't know her name--and she didn't know his.

"Oh! Jeeze, I'm sorry. My name's Shin. What's yours?" He offered another wide grin, dark blue eyes alight with curiosity and excitement. Nothing like an act of heroism to get his heart pounding! Because of course, the pounding had nothing to do with the pretty damsel in distress in front of him, noooo...

"Yes, please," Naste said, somewhat breathless herself, still recovering from having run so far away from the cougar.

She had been on her own only a little bit, and so hadn't quite yet learned how to fully take care of herself: what plants helped with healing being one such thing.

"Nice to meet you Shin; my name is Naste."

She tried to tuck her wing back into her side, and winced as pain suddenly shot through it.

"So, about those plants?" she asked, forcing a smile. She didn't exactly want to be a burden on him, but she didn't exactly have much choice in the matter, either.

"Oh! Right, of course," Shin rolled his eyes at himself--stupid, putting pleasantries before medical attention.

Huffing mentally at himself, Shin added, "Um, you might want to try not moving that wing any more than you can help 'cause you don't wanna tear the muscle or anything," he advised, racking his brain to remember where he had seen that one...

Oh, right! "Um, you just wait here, okay? I'll be back in a second, 'kay? Just sit down and don't move and if that cougar comes back just call and I'll be there, 'kay?" Shin asked, only fretting the tiniest bit--he couldn't help but worry over this wounded 'Phim.

Despite her best efforts, he obviously was worrying over her. She waited until after his back was turned to grin a little, though--it was actually kind of cute.

Not that this was exactly the time to be thinking about that sort of thing...

Naste settled down into the sand on the beach, and made herself as comfortable as possible, while still having to hold her wing at the awkward angle, to keep it from hurting more.

But still, it could be worse, she thought--she'd had a hero nearby to rescue her, after all.

A few long minutes later, Shin came back, a few herbs clenched between his teeth, along with appeared to be seaweed.

Setting the items on the ground before him, he eyed the wing speculatively. "Does it hurt less like that?" While he waited for an answer, he picked up a decent sized rock between he teeth and mashed the herbs until they were in a power, then carefully brushed them from the bottom of the rock to his paw.

"It might sting a little..." Shin said doubtfully, hesitating for the first time--it wasn't like he was some master Shaman, he didn't have any real experience in healing...what if something went wrong?
PostPosted: Fri Nov 05, 2010 1:52 pm

"Yes." She wished that it wasn't such an odd angle--having to hold the wing out from her body like this--but discomfort was better than outright pain.

"But after the sting, it will feel better, won't it," Naste encouraged, ever the optimist. She could see the hesitation in Shin as he stood there, compress in paw, but not yet applying it--she was simply grateful that he was sticking around to help her, rather than running away at the first chance he got, like she had feared he would.

Shin nodded reluctantly, then mentally chastised himself--he was supposed to be assuring her, not the other way around!

"Yea, it will," Shin said, smiling again. He didn't want her to be tooooo nervous--after all, he'd done this before, to himself, when he got hurt, and he was no worse for wear because of it.

Reassured now, he moved forward and gingerly but firmly presses the powder to the wound, then carefully rubbed it in with paw. Then, quickly (and muttering under his breath because it wasn't closer), he picked up the seaweed and wrapped it around her wing to keep the powder in place--a makeshift bandage, of sorts.

Carefully, with a mix of tooth and claw, Shin got the seaweed tied tight enough so that it wouldn't fall off, but hopefully not so tight that it caused more pain that the original injury did.

"How does that feel?" Shin asked, frowning doubtfully at his medic job. He'd never really helped another fox with an injury before--only his own. It felt kind of good, but mostly it just made him worry even more.

Naste hesitantly tried moving her wing--and found she could now, with hardly any pain.

"Much better," she said, smiling at him. She finally tucked the wing back against her side, in a much more comfortable resting position. "Thank you, Shin."

And now that he had helped her, that was that, wasn't it? He hardly had a reason to stick around now--yet the thought made Naste sad, somehow.

"I suppose this is good-bye now?" she asked, not fully managing to keep the sadness out of her voice.

Shin laughed. "Why would it be good-bye? I just met you!" Shin laughed again, more amused by that suggestion than anything--why on earth would he leave? She seemed nice enough, and you could never have too many friends, right?

"Wanna take a walk, make sure that that wing's holding up okay?" Shin grinned. "What're you doing out here all on your own, anyways?"
PostPosted: Fri Nov 05, 2010 3:37 pm

She was surprised--but pleasantly so--by his response. She didn't know herself why she kept expecting him to suddenly turn tail and disappear, and so while she wished she could explain herself, she simply couldn't. Instead, she settled on: "a walk would be nice."

She stood up slowly, still slightly off-balance due to her injured wing, and started leading the way down the beach.

"What are you doing all on your own?" she deflected his question, while wondering how to answer. She did have a reason, but 'my grandfather, who was more of a father to me, just died', wasn't exactly the sort of thing you unloaded on someone who was near-enough a complete stranger.

"I was walking, waiting for some poor Modiphim to need me," Shin teased, deflecting just as artfully just as she had--but at least he made up for it with an actual response.

"I was just taking a walk, just kidding," Shin said with a laugh, though part of him did wonder what this 'Phim didn't want to tell him. "Explorin', cause I don't really have anywhere else to go," Shin said with a half-shrug. He kept half an eye on her wing, making sure that the seaweed didn't suddenly unravel or anything--but he was glad his remedy seemed to be working well enough; she even been able to fold her wings all on her own! He called that a job well-done.

"You're not part of a tribe?" she asked, glancing over at him. To finally take a good look at him. She had noticed all of his modifications before, and on some level must have assumed that one of them was the marking of a tribe. But no, she couldn't see any tribe markings she could identify on him. Although perhaps the odd symbol on his necklace, or the marking above his eye could be something?

Grandfather had told her a little about the tribes, but he had also told her they were constantly changing--he could belong to a new one, for how little she knew of the current going-ons in the world.

"I'm not, either," she added. Somewhat unnecessarily. Unlike him, she didn't have any modifications. Not yet, anyway.

Shin shook his head, making the gold and black pendant around is neck shift against his fur. "Nope, it's just me. Has been for a while," Shin said with a faint, distant smile."Just me and the fish, anyway,"

He paused, then smiled sheepishly and added only a little awkwardly, "I kinda like fish--they're really interesting if you think about it," But he at least had the wisdom to cut himself off before he could go rambling at her and completely weird her out.

"I didn't think you were--there aren't any tribes around here, really, and I didn't think a Tribe would leave one of its own against a cougar," Shin huffed. "At least, no tribe I would join would,"
