Hokay.. I figure it's about time I made a journal for my Kirin. I've only got two right now but I had tremendous luck in obtaining them so I'm crossing my fingers in the hope for more in the future. And a journal seems like a good way to keep track, ne? ^^ So, let's get this show on the road...

Found!

It was just another normal day for Asher...at least, that's how it began....

The mare was in the midst of her usual routine which involved meticulously going over her herbal inventory, making a list of what was ready, what still needed some time to cure and, of course, what she was low on.

To her dismay, she discovered there were quite a few things that she was almost completely out of so, she left her comfortable cave in search of the medicines. Unfortunately, most of them were out of season but she hoped to find some early- and late-bloomers, as the case may be. What she found instead was an egg...

It had obviously been abandoned, whether because the parents simply didn't want the egg or some tragedy had occurred, Asher couldn't guess. All she knew was that the nest was in tatters and one lonely little egg sat amidst the wreckage.

Biting her lip, Asher pondered what to do. She couldn't bring herself to leave it there, knowing she would forever berate herself for leaving an innocent to die. "Ok, little one. Let's get you home, shall we?" she muttered to the egg then set about fashioning a sling to carry it in. It wasn't pretty but it was serviceable and, by the grace of good fortune and the Goddess' blessing, she made it back to her cave and set her little bundle in the warmest section of her home. Then, busily, she started piling warm, dry grasses around it, doing her best to make a decent nest for the egg.

~peck peck CRACK~

Asher froze and stared open-mouthed as a series of fissures marred the egg's smooth shell. Unable to do anything other than gape, she watched as a new baby kirin came into the world. When she returned to her senses, her medicinal training kicked in and she quickly assessed that the foal was healthy and took note that it was a male. "Welcome...Obad-Hai," she decided on the spur of the moment then smiled as he wobbled to his feet. Her smile took on a chagrined edge when Obad-Hai moved to her, looking to nurse. "What'll father say when he finds out I have a son?"
