Asher sighed to herself as she collected herbs for a poultice. Her work kept her busy; so much so that she'd never really gotten to know her family. She talked with her father but even that was in fits and starts and it was only ever about medicinal subjects. Her siblings and her mother were a great mystery. Sure, she'd had occasion to make medicines for them but it was always so...impersonal; delivered with the jargon of her trade. 'Chew on one of these leaves twice daily. Once in the morning and again in the evening. When it loses it's flavor, spit it out. In a week's time you should feel better and, if not, come see me.'

"Maybe father will be able to tell me how to connect with them," she murmured wistfully then sighed again and shook her head, gently plucking a sprig of berries. Most times, it seemed he was even less capable with words and relationships than she was...

Kanobi was taking a day to get away. He had spent most of the past couple weeks gathering herbs and leaves and other things to store away for the coming winter. A chilled wind was moving in, making supplies scarce. Soon, there would be snow.
So once he felt he had enough supplies, he went off for a walk alone. Kari had been a great help, as had a somewhat reluctant Meinir. He chuckled, thinking of his daughter, which lead to thoughts of his other daughters. Kamala and Asher. At the thought of Asher, he shook his head. Once he'd taught her what he could of medicine, the girl had buried herself in her work. Always busy...

(( Could you stick a picture of Asher in there for reference? ))

Pleased with her selection of medicinal plants and berries, Asher decided to call it quits for the day. Taking a cue from her father, she had plenty of back-store for the coming winter months. "I should have enough to last," she murmured to herself, a habit she'd acquired spending so much time by herself. "Luckily, most of these gain potency after being dried for awhile instead of losing it."
Humming in a satisfied tone, the mare began the trip back to her store-house with her cache. But on the way, she was waylaid by a familiar face.
"Father! I was just thinking of you!" she squealed happily, prancing up to the stallion. "How's your winter gathering coming?"

(( I meant to but I forgot. ^^; *made of fail* Anyway, she's up there now. 3nodding ))

As a squeal reached his ears, Kanobi's heart practically stopped. 'Female!!!' It wasn't until he registered what the yelling meant that he relaxed. "Oh! Asher! You gave me a start there." He said with a bashful chuckle. "You were thinking of-? Oh, it's fine. I think I've got everything ready for the winter. And yourself?" Every time he saw Asher, or any of his daughters really, he was amazed to see how grown they were. His smile toward her was affectionate as he rubbed his nose against Asher's cheek without thinking. This was different than the usual business-like interaction between the two.

(( Tis all good! ))

Asher smiled and, after a moment of surprise, returned her father's affectionate nuzzle. "Wonderful. I've been caching away what I can find to last through the winter months. I figure I'll have enough and then some to see it through, barring anything too terrible happening," she informed him, pleased all over again with herself. She took her business as a healer very seriously.
Now, down to what she'd been thinking of right before she came across him.. "Have you seen mother and Meinir and Kamala lately? I haven't had much time to spend with them though I imagine I'll see them at some point, colds being so common this time of year."

Tail flicking happily, Kanobi held his head up a little more with pride. Asher may be a bit of a workaholic, but she did her work well, that couldn't be denied.
He perked his ears slightly at the mention of the rest of the family. "Yes. They're doing fine. Healthy. I try to keep them that way." He chuckled. "It doesn't always work." He gave his head a short tilt. "We've all been wondering how you are though."

Asher actually flushed at that last and let out a repeat of her earlier sigh. "I'm doing well. I enjoy my work; I'm happy doing it and I'm good at it. Unfortunately it does keep me from seeing much of them. That's actually why I was just thinking of you..." Looking a little sheepish, she explained her train of thought to him, about how the only real conversations she'd ever had with her family all revolved around healing.
"I don't know what my trouble is," she finished, looking up at the big stallion who had always been her idle. "But my head is always so full of herblore that I'm just not...good at speaking of other things. Do you think you could teach me how to talk with them, like a normal kirin who isn't consumed by her work?"

Kanobi listened carefully, then shook his head bashfully. "My dear, I am the wrong kirin to ask about communicating with others. All I can say is... well, just come around more. Our work is still somewhat new, but we can't spend our entire time trying to promote ourselves. It'll come with time. And the best way to pass that time is to spend it equally with the work and with the support of family." He chuckled softly. "I don't know how I did it before meeting your mother, but it's truly easier with someone around. Even your sisters are supportive."

Asher frowned slightly, having expected as much. The only kirin her father seemed at all comfortable with were her, her siblings and her mother. But he was still one up on her..
"Well, I still have to store the herbs I gathered today but..after that, do you think it would be ok if I went with you and visited them?" she asked, smiling tentatively.

Kanobi's ears perked happily. "I'm sure they'd love that. I don't know about Kari or Kamala, but I know Meinir is home." He smiled. "So, this means I get to finally see where you've been living lately?"

"I suppose so," Asher admitted, smiling slightly. "It's not much to look at, though. The space is almost entirely consumed by herbs that I've hung up to dry. But if you really want to see it," she trailed off then turned and started walking away.
"C'mon father! It's this way."

Kanobi cocked his head slightly. Not much? Did that mean it wasn't a proper shelter for her? He clicked his teeth once out of worry, but nodded and followed. If it wasn't good enough, he'd help her find a new place before the winter got too far along.
"I keep my supplies separate from the main home. Maybe next fall you should try that."

(( Oh, and could you correct Kanobi's name in the title? ^^ Thanks! ))

"If the stores get to be too much, I'll consider moving them elsewhere. But, for now, I'm perfectly content. I like the smell of the herbs, both fresh and dried. It makes me happy," she said, looking over her shoulder at him and shrugging slightly.
"Anyway, here we are," Asher added, tilting her head forward. Her home consisted of a cozy cave whose entrance was mostly blocked by trees. Bundles of herbs hung from the surrounding tree branches and around the cave opening. The whole place smelled of incense, none of the different scents clashing but, instead, mixing to make a heady perfume.
"What do you think?"

(( Sorry about the slow reply. Got distracted by the holidays ^^; ))

(( understandable ))

Kanobi nodded, showing it was fine. As long as Asher was happy.
He walked up to the revealed cave, smelling it before seeing it through the trees. "Nice." He commented, sticking his heads inside. With the trees hiding the entrance from the wind, the cave felt much warmer than the chilled air outside the protective trees.
"You found a very nice cave." He said, nodding his head proudly.

"Thank you," Asher said, preening a little at her father's praise. It pleased her greatly to know that he approved of the choice she'd made.
"Would you like to come inside? Everything I've gathered today goes in the back. Keeps the berries and leaves from drying out completely," she explained, though, with his knowledge of healing, he probably already knew that.
