Okay. I am NOT a pro-breeder here. Since I have nothing better to do, I'm going to try to figure this thing out. xD So, in an attempt to make friends and practice as well as get some advice, I have set this up. :3 I shall be giving these Pokemon away. But if you like to be nice and trade me an adorable Pokemon or a legendary, that's all good. ;D But it's not mandatory or w/e. xD Please be aware that I have two Siblings that love Pokemon, if they want a Pokemon, they come first. D;
Here's what I have// x4-Dratini (3 females, 1 male) No Special Moves x7-Smoochum (All females) Moves-Pound, Substitute. x4-Squirtle (All males) Moves-Tackle, Water Pulse, Protect x2-Charmander (All males) Moves-Scratch, growl, Fire Blast x3-Totodile (All males) Moves- Scratch, Leer, Substitute. x3-Cyndaquil (All males) Moves-Tackle, Leer. x2 Eevee (All males) Moves- Tail Whip, Tackle, Helping hand.
Here's what I'm currently trying to breed// Munchlax Pichu (With Volt Tackle)
I would love some advice for breeding. <3

Zenjin Jiruga What kind of advice do you need? Only for a tug of a string Mindless Echo Says-----&*
I don't know... xD I'm kind of new at this, so I have no idea what to ask.
Is there some kind of basic thing I should know? Or does it all come from experience?

The most basic breeding fact is that the Male breeds down the Moves, while the Female breeds down the nature. But the nature still has a certain percentage of being a Nature that is not of the Mothers.
Also, if you want hatching to take less time, get a Magmar or Magcargo, or anything with the Ability "Flame Body", and it will halve the amount of steps needed for the eggs to hatch.
I'm sure you knew most or all of that sweatdrop

True, only the father can pass moves, he can also pass TM Moves also. Though tutor moves cannot be passed on. Another good technique is giving the parent any of the power items that increase its stats. Its child will be given increased stats based on the power item the parent was holding. Though this will only work on HG/SS. I hope this helps.
Plus I am willing to trade for your Totodile or Squirtle. Just name a Pokemon and I will see if I can trade it razz

What they say is true, but for the Female to carry on the Nature in HG/SS she must be equipped with an Everstone, to give it a 50% of the baby being born with the mothers exact Nature. Giving the father any of the 6 power items, supposably helps with the babies IV's. And trust me, the better the IV the better EV training will go for you. 3nodding If you have 31 IV's in Speed, and you then EV train it for Speed then you WILL get max stats possible for that Pokemon. 3nodding IV's are what get you to max out those specific stats you look for. If this is confusing, PM me or post here. I'll try to explain. sweatdrop And yes, as Zenjin said Magmar, Mascargo, both hold "Flame Body" as an ability and will cut the steps needed to hatch eggs in half. But also Pokemon with the Ability "Magma Armor" can do this aswell. Um I have links that show beneficial Natures and such. I'll post it anyway, just to help out lol. http://www.legendarypokemon.net/naturesAlso http://serebii.net/ if you haven't been there before, I'm sure you have at least once lol. It has information about every Pokemon/move/item. Really awesome site. So yea, I'll stop now lol. Hope this helps, if you got questions feel free to go and ask questions in the PWF Hangout thread, located in the main Lobby/PM me or any other Mod in the guild/or um...start a thread like this, and we'll eventually post in it. xd

IV = Individual Values EV = Effort Values
A fellow guild member posted a guide here in the guild. It's in the battle strategies subforum. 3nodding Theres also information on Serebii.
I'll give you what knowledge I have on this. Each Pokemon is allowed to have a total of 510 EV's. Maximum for 1 stat is 255 EV's. So thats 2 stats you can make look VERY nice. biggrin Like check it out. Lets say...you want to Max out the Speed stat. You would train your pokemon against 1 that is naturally faster then yours. Lets use a common Pokemon, Pidgey. Each Pidgey you defeat is 1 EV into speed, so...that would be 255 Pidgey to rape.... yea that'll take a long time. sweatdrop So you use items to help you out. 3nodding You can use Carbos, which increases speed EV's. Each Carbos equals 10 EV's for speed. You can only use 10 Carbos, thats 100 EV's into Speed already. So now you only need 155 Pidgeys to destroy right? Well check this out, now you can use an item to increase your EV's gained. You equip the Power Anklet which increases speed upon leveling. That item alone adds 4 Speed EV's. So Pidgey's 1 EV for speed plus the 4 from the item would be 5 EV's per Pidgey. Now if you have Poke Virus, that would Double! what you were getting before. So Pidgey, plus power item, plus Poke virus would be 10 Speed EV's per Pidgey you destroy. 3nodding
IV's are totally random, but if you use those power items to breed, that'll help you get to where you need to be with your babies. 3nodding IV's basically are what make your Pokemon max out on a stat, or being just short of it. Theres more to it, but for now I think you should understand EV's 1st before you move into IV's. 3nodding
I'll ask some of the mods to come by and see if they can help you. 3nodding They did teach me anyhow, and I dont want to confuse you any further. sweatdrop

I'm glad to see that you've learned something Jerz ^_^
anyway, gonna clarify about moves.
The male will pass down any TM moves or Egg moves that the baby can learn. The list of moves learned by the baby can be found on Serebii.
However, you can also pass down level up moves to the baby. But in order to do that, both the male and the female have to both know the move.
Now, to get a Pichu that knows Volt Takle? You have the give the female Raichu/Pikachu an item called Light Ball. This will enable the baby Pichu to hatch with Volt Tackle learned.
To breed for a Munchlax, you need to give a Snorlax an item called "Full Incense"
any other questions regarding breeding, and passing down certain traits, shoot me a PM, and I'll be happy to give you a hand understanding the finer points of breeding.

Come with me children and follow my way Into the world of darkness and magic With all my power, I'll show you the way To all your dreams, hopes, and illusions.
Jer had stated that you needed an Everstone to have the female passed down her Nature, which is correct.
It isn't strictly for HG/SS.
"For the games from Pokémon Emerald onwards, you have the ability to pass Natures on through breeding. This is done by attaching the Everstone to the female Pokémon or the Ditto. Once attached, there is a 50% chance of the baby Pokémon having the nature of the female. In Diamond & Pearl onwards, if you breed two Pokémon from different language games, the chances of them being Shiny is reduced to 1 in 2,048."
http://www.serebii.net/games/breed.shtml
I would read that article if you want to learn a lot about breeding.
