Based on the idea by Karo Kiba given in the Ideas thread, we'd like to hear and see what you think about fashion in Tortall, but not only Tortall.
I personally favour the descriptions given by T.P. about the gear worn by people living in the Copper Isles. I'm told I am very easily identifiable by my (overly)bright colours and masses of jewelry.
This could grow into a very interesting thread, I think! smile
Kisses!

I'm quite fond of how vivid and realistic most of the descriptions of clothing seem to be. Like in Protector of the Small it mentions that Kel has to tie up her hose. Little details like that make the reading experience even more enjoyable for me.

Yep, I agree. I found a few pictures which remind me of those descriptions, though many will probably not agree with me... I've always imagined a slightly more Victorian theme to the dresses of the noblewomen, for some reason. This one reminds me of Daine smile

I think of the noblewomen as having Victorian influences as well! And that last picture does scream "Daine" doesn't it haha

okay with darker hair, and a shorter shirt....and i dont know why (its been around 3 years since i've read the wild mage series) but i've always seen her as having short hair. kinda like bob-ish hair. but other than those that picture does look like her! ahhh ummmm. I can't say i haven't imagined them in like victorian dresses, but for some reason I really can't see Queen Thayet or Buri or even like Shinkokami in victorian clothing. more something along the lines of this for Shinkokami and perhaps something like this for Thayet

I'm a costume geek, and I think it's mostly Tamora Pierce's fault. biggrin
Seriously. I sew too much for my own good.
I love her descriptions! She does my favorite descriptions of any author, with the possible exception of Terry Pratchett. But that's because he's Terry Pratchett. heart

What about Diane Duane? If you can name one books she's written (besides the Star Trek ones; those don't count) then you are officially me.

Didn't she do the series starting with "So You Want to Be a Wizard?" I think that was the title. I haven't read her in years!

The Young Wizards books start out just 'okay' and as the series progresses they get FANTASTIC. You should read them. heart

I think that was part of the issue I had. They were just ok and I was reading Mercedes Lackey at the same time and really got drawn into her worlds.
