Auuuuuugh I hate it when people name their kids something just because it's something like a pop culture thing...like naming them after someone that will be a has-been within some years.

Naming your kids after characters in a crappy vampire fad is just taking it a step further and in the wrong direction.

Why not name your kids something meaningful? That's what I plan to do. Not just take some name from the pop headlines.

As a person named Mariah, I actually get a tiny bit annoyed when people ask if I'm named after Mariah Carey. For one, I don't like Mariah Carey. Two, I was born before she got famous. Three, I'm PROUD that I'm NOT named after some semi-talented pop singer who probably won't be all that remembered as time goes on.

I was named after the song in Paint Your Wagon, bitches. "They call the Wind Mariah." Much more awesome than Mariah Carey.

Come to realize, I used to be the only Mariah I ever knew of. Over the years, though, the numbers have increased...And I know it's probably because of Mariah Carey. Bleh.

Also.
WHO names their kid Cullen? Really??

Bah, who needs 'em? Kids are nothing but trouble, little walking, crying monsters.

I bet this is like getting wasted one night and waking up with a Mario tattoo; the hangover lasts for a while, what you have done lasts for a lifetime. Both with naming babies and tattoos, you can remove them both with laser technology.

All three, you mean: The name (by having it legally changed on federal papers), the tattoo (with removal), and the baby (abortion, which I'm mildly against)

I don't want kids...

But if I did I would put a lot of thought into naming them. I don't want to give them a retarded name I'll regret (or they'll regret) later.

On a side note, I have two baby cousins named Bella and Ava. I believe Ava was the most popular last year.

Ava sounds like a really pretty name...Bella would too, if I only hadn't come to associate it with Fail and a dense doormat of a female character who shouldn't be idolized but is....

When I do eventually have a baby, I'm going to think about their name, and make sure that it's something unique. Not necesarily outlandish to the point of WTFery, since that's almost as bad as something on the top of the popularity list, in my opinion, but...I'd like to be creative.

That's what I heard from my mom as well. There was actually a small article about this in the paper. She got to hear me splutter inanely about people naming their kids after a stupid "vampire" novel that is more s**t than novel.

Oh, I read this... I wanted to post it, but I thought "eh".
I suppous it's not too bad, as long as we don't have a "Reneseme" or however you spell it, or Cullen as a last name... they could all pass for a normal name ("Isabelle" and "Jacob"), and later on in life you could choose to tell people a different story about the origin of your name if your too ashamed to admit it.

Awful unfortunate that people are running out of inspiration.
However, there are some names that are arguably worse than Twilight names:
Jayden, Kayden, and Aiden. gonk

Hmm? What's wrong with those names, just out of curiosity?

And Salem, I actually read that people have been naming their kids "Cullen." You know, as a first name. Apparently it moved up 137 spots and is now number 485 on the list.

I'd name my kids after my own characters; like Nathion for a boy name, or Anira for a girl name.

I come up with some fairly interesting names otherwise, like Melilithia.

You know when I heard Isabella as the most popular name, I didn't associate it automatically with Twilight, I associated it with Isabella Gracia Shapiro form Phineas and Ferb (cute cartoon and way better characters than Twilight...)

I don't think the names are as bad especially if they can be associated with better things.

Yeah, I hear ya...I just don't have anything else to associate "bella" with.
