You guys know that audition I was talking about over a month ago? Well I got my acceptance letter in the mail about an hour ago!!
I'm so excited!!!!!! There's one snag though:
My parents don't want to let me go. It IS really far away, but the bus stop is really close to my house, and my friend has offered to drive me to band practices.
I'm going to argue this to the death, guys. I've worked so hard to get in, and I'm not going to let them stop me from doing it.
Anyone have any suggestions on what I should do to convince them?? 'Cause I REALLY want to go. It's been my dream for the last few years. crying crying crying crying crying
EDIT. to clarify the audition was: I got accepted to switch from my current high school to the arts magnet school of the school board

Just be honest with your parents and tell them it's been your dream. Also, ask your music teacher or other adult/person involved in this to write to your parents about this and why it's important for you to participate. I never encountered this problem because mom is my band teacher, but that's what I would do.

Or, there's always the "Kill them and make it look like a terrible accident" option. >.> <.<
Not really, the first person's idea was probably better.

Well, you have worked REALLY hard for this haven't you? And being accepted is something special, a rare opportunity if you asked me. It is a great chance for you to further your musical goals and career. smile

I'm really trying to beg and it's not working. Maybe I can lay a lot more on the "dream" card to make them guilty? Although the guilt trips so far haven't worked.
I don't think I can do the band director one. I'm got accepted to switch from my current high school to the arts magnet school of the school board, and I haven't told her yet. I think she'll be mad when she finds out. I could get my piano teacher possibly, or my friends mom. (My friend goes there and maybe she can give my parents some pros/cons)

Well I'm new, so I'll ask:
What exactly would this band thing entail?
going to practices far away and getting a ride there doesn't sound like such a bad deal. I don't see what the problem would be if you left just before practice and came back after practice was over. Do your parents not like the idea of you going to that particular town?
Or would it be a like a boarding school type deal?

Tell them, "Listen, this could help me get a job as a musician and that's what I really want to do. Music is a part of my life and I'm not going to let it get away from me! I'm going to chase my dream to the ends of the earth. Isn't that what you've been wanting me to do my whole life?"
And make up some more crap that you know they will buy.

For future people: it's to switch high schools. to go to an arts high school. (While still getting a regular diploma)

Nope. Not worked out. I still need to do some convincing. The form saying whether I can go or not is due the 25th, so I have about a week. >.<

I'm thinking that the sappy stuff about lifelong dreams is your best shot. If that doesn't work, go for the teacher approval thing, and then just ask if they'll look into it. (But if none of that works, my original idea is still an option... xp )

Probably, yeah. I'm tinking what I need is to sit down with them and discussmy views on it. 'Cause most of the conversations we've had about it have been arguments.
Lol. I don't know about that one, razz

Explain how it may help you in the future, and get another adult that can persuade your parents (a private teacher or your BD?)
It may also help to do a little extra around the house or something. Y'know, to look good!
Best of luck.
