Crystalize stretched slowly, his back still pressed against the large boulder he'd used against shelter from the wind the night before. Dawn hadn't even really broken yet, but by now, Crys was used to waking up early -- the earlier they were up, the sooner they got to the top.
Crys sat up and blinked, smiling a bit to himself as he spotted Aodh, still asleep. After stretching again, Crys padded silently over to his friend, laying down next to him. He was still huge, but Crys was at least more used to it now.
"G'morning," Crys murmured quietly, his dicolored tail flicking absently behind him. "Ready to rise and shine?" Without thinking much about it, Crys glanced up the mountainface, mentally guessing how much they had left. A while, but not as much as it had seemed the night before.
Also without thinking, Crys sniffed a bit, trying to locate some game; with Aodh, it's not like it was so difficult to find food, but it was still annoying sometimes, and he didn't like to completely depend on his winged buddy. He liked to pull his own weight and whatnot.
"C'mon. Time to wake up, ya 'Daeva."

"Five more minutes," Aodh muttered, and rolled over, managing to somehow not crush his wing under him or get it caught on the rocks next to him or poke Crys with it even in his nearly asleep state.
He jumped up when a cold breeze went over his now exposed wing, though. It was already cold that high up, and then adding wind to it made it tons worse.
"I'm up, I'm up!" he shouted at the sky, addressing the 'deity of winds or something. He didn't even know himself.
"Breakfast time," he told Crys, before launching himself into the air. Being as large and noticeable as he was between the extra heavy footsteps and the fire that followed him wherever he went, it was hard for him to hunt from anywhere but the air, since prey usually ran away from him long before he got to it.
It didn't take long for him to take down a deer, but he wasn't sure if that would be enough for them. Aodh could eat more than half a deer by himself, but he had no idea how much or little 'normal' foxes ate. He'd take down something else if the deer wasn't enough, he figured.
"Breakfast is up ahead a bit," Aodh told Crys as landed back at their campsite.

"I know," Crys responded poutily. He had halfway tried to follow his friend, but between the wings and the early-morning-ness of the early morning, Crys had given up quickly and just headed back to the campsite.
"But thank you," Crys said, smiling faintly as he shook his head to clear it. "Deer, hm? I'm surprised they're still around up here," Flexing his claws against the ground before stepping in line with his friend, offering a smile.
"How'd you sleep?" He asked, tilting his head inquisitively as he spoke.
"I hope it went well, it's bad sometimes, I bet, especially with the wings and all," he added, batting one of his large multihued wings playfully, offering a quirky grin.

Aodh quickly pulled his wing away from Crys, before he could actually touch it.
Then he felt bad about that, and figured he probably should explain, before Crys started pouting on him, or something. "Wings are fragile, and take way too long to heal if you tear them or break them." Aodh spread his wings, so Crys sould see the scars--from the first and last time Aodh had tried flying in a storm, which ended with him crashing rather painfully into the ground.
"Well, there's gotta be something up here for the mountain lions to eat." Aodh shrugged, having never really thought about what animals should or shouldn't be where. He didn't care, as long as he could find prey.
"I slept well. You? And yeah, it went well. Tons easier with the wings than by foot." Aodh finally finished working his way backwards through Crys' comments and questions.

Crys looked hurt for just a fraction of a second but he was halfway to covering it up when Aodh began explaining, apparently feeling bad, then Crys smiled reassuringly.
"It's alright," Crys managed to say before he spread his wings, nearly knocking Crys on his behind. His eyes widened as he took in the scars, then quickly shook his head when he realized he was staring.
"Right, 'course, the mountain lions," Crys agreed quickly, starting walking again. "Makes sense. And I slept alright. Better than the night before last anyways, no rocks digging into my spine," Crys added with a laugh, shaking his head goodnaturedly.
Crys fell silent then, knowing and enjoying the fact that his friend didn't need mindless babble all the time; there was a comfortable silence between them now, and he was surprised to find he didn't mind.

Aodh nodded, as he folded his wings tight against his back again.
They continued in silence for a bit, until they came to a split in the path, one branch looking a bit more difficult to climb than the other.
"Which way?" Aodh asked. He was thinking about the harder one, but if it got too hard, he had his wings, and could fly past the hard parts. Crys would be stuck walking them.
((Sorry it's crap >.< ))

Crys thought about this for a few moments, looking between the path and Aodh's wings and the path again.
"This one," Crys eventually decided, walking towards the harder one. "What's that the humans always say? Take the road untraveled?" Crys knew that wasn't right, but it was close enough, so he simply shrugged and started walking. He'd been through worse than this, and once with a hurt 'Tani on his back, this would be no problem.
Crys was happy to let the conversation lull, as it was more of a comfortable silence than anything.

Aodh shrugged. "Maybe? Never met a human before."
He really wasn't that interested in the humans, either. They were weird, they did weird things, they lived in weird caves that they built, and even if Mom had spent months traveling with humans once when she snuck on that ship or whatever, didn't mean that he had to be like her and want to meet humans, too.
It wasn't that he had anything against them...he just didn't have any interest in them, either, since he didn't get them at all.

"Really?" Crys asked, tilting his head curiously. "When I was a kit, I lived in a family's backyard. Their kit fed me scraps from the meals they caught in their loud machine," Crys said, nodding matteroffactly. "It was mostly good."
"They are very strange, though. Walking on two legs--pah! Ridiculous. And all their fur is on top of their heads, and they put on many layers of skin when they go outside in winter instead of growing new layers like us. So very odd."

"Loud machine?" He could figure out the rest, from having seen the rare human at a distance, and from Mom's stories.
"They can't grow more fur during winter because they lost it. Somehow." Aodh tried to remember more details, couldn't, shrugged. "Mom heard the story from some foxes once, and she told us, but I can't remember it any more."
Actually, he had forgotten all about that one, until Crys had brought it up. He'd probably forget about it again soon enough--he didn't care enough about humans to want to remember.

"Yea, loud machine. They're really big and have rolly-wheely things on the bottom and they climb inside the stomachs to make it go. I saw them once, it was very...weird. Then it roared and came awake and they were gone. When they came back sometimes they'd have many meals in their front paws."
Crys nodded matter of factly, then added, "How can they have lost their fur? Silly creatures." Crys shook his head and 'tsk'ed them lightly, not really meaning it.

"Oh, the fast-travel machines," Aodh finally recognized the description.
"I don't know, don't remember. You could ask Mom, if you're that curious." Aodh shrugged, showing that he wasn't.
He was quite for the next few minutes, as the path narrowed more, and he watched to make sure neither of them lost their footing. He could save himself, but if Crys fell...he had never tried carrying a modifox while flying before, and really didn't care to try now.

Crystalize shook his head. "No, I'm not really that curious. I was just mentioning." Crys shrugged lightly too, then looked down at his paws to make sure he didn't trip and fall, because that would be bad. He didn't want Aodh to have to carry him, that would be downright embarrassing...but maybe it'd be fun, who knew.
Shaking his head to clear it, Crys fell into a comfortable silence, not sure of what to say now.

Once they were past the narrow part, Aodh started up the conversation again, like it had never stopped.
"That's good. Saves me the trouble of having to hunt down Mom." He grinned at Crys, showing he was kidding.
Mostly, anyway.
He loved his moms and all, don't get him wrong, but Mom was strange, more so than Mother.
But maybe that was just his bias--Mother was a 'deava, who acted more like a normal modifox, just like Aodh, so of course he'd think she was less strange than Mom.

Crys laughed as he grinned, nodding in understanding -- he got that. "Yea, it'd be a wee bit pointless to go wandering all over creation looking for her for something silly like this," Crys agreed with a chuckle.
Crystalize was still half-focusing on the path so he didn't fall, then continued, "Where d'you think she is right now, again? I can't remember if I asked already," Crys added with a laugh, shaking his head goodnaturedly at himself.
