Here's a thread where you can post ideas to help inspire people. Anything you want that might have helped you or helped someone you know in the past would be awesome. biggrin

I've actually written fake articles about me as an author in the future, and I have it posted above my workstation. Whenever I need that little boot in the rear I read it over and think: I can't wait until there's an actual article like this in a magazine about me.

It's corny, but it works. razz

Okay, no one is posting, so I'll put something else up that inspires me.

Reading books along the line of Twilight and Eragon.

These books don't inspire me to write like they do. In fact, they help push me in my drive to finish up my book and get it published. If they can do it, then I sure as hell can too!

Does anyone else read books and think: Oh, I can do better.

Playing Guilty Gear-- why? Because of the style.
The plot of it with the backstories of the characters and little facts...
It's like my style, a lot.

It makes me think: "Well, if people can like that, they'll like me."
Like in my story, there's a lot of hints of things, but nothing really said.
And that's how it is in Guilty Gear, too.

And between two characters in the game, my favorite and my least favorite.
It's implied that they had done one another, both being men, so it was a homosexual relationship.
Drawings and other lines from them indicated this.

It turns out, there was never anything between them.
And both of them are straight-- one got married and it was a "rival" relationship.
That's what happens in my novel, as well, between two guys.

Many drawings imply a deeper relationship, I've noticed.
And they way they talk and act, I'm sure people would assume.
But they're really not like that, in the least bit, at all. So.

I figure if this game can do it, it'll work for me, too.
And the references to music, as well, and how blotchy the storyline is.
Seeing something similar to my work "inspires" me.

People should do that, do something close to their work, that's legally out their and published.
To show you, even the oddest of plots and weird ways of putting it together will work.

I just have to look at Twilight to give me that push, I was writing that kind of stuff with the exact storylines and bland characters when I was twelve...

Orchestral music inspires me and is a proven music choice that helps as it has no words to distract.

Listening to music really helps me. Bands like Linkin Park, Evenascence, and Blue October inspire me. Which is part of the reason my writing is darker than most... rolleyes

It also helps to read different genre's of books my various authors.

I always have my TV on .. sometimes it's a distraction but sometimes it really works .. absorbing information xP .. I watched a lot of detective shows when I really got into the Drag Shergi Mystery series .. for the first book I was inspired by the old 1940s-1950s first person detective stories that were told on the radio dramas ..

I get inspiration from a lot of places .. so 's hard to pin down many specifics like that one heh

Sometimes I read books that are just so amazing that they leave you in awe. Isabel Allende has this crazy foreshadowing technique, Dostoevsky has his ideas and intricacies, Stephan King just has this odd but endearing style, and the list goes on. Every once in a while you'll pick up a book and, not to name any titles (Twilight), you read (Twilight) it and think, tinder!

Anyways, moving away from the Twilight bashing (why is it so easy?), I get inspired by pretty much anything. I just spend some moments of my day taking in everything: a conversation with a friend, a line from a book, the way the light separates as it falls across a desk but still illuminates the room, how that same desk has both profanity and kites that remind me of angel's eyes carved into it, something out of place, something never noticed, the way someone laughs, talks, holds a paper as opposed to a cell phone, writing contests on Gaia, deviatart, strands of music floating through the air, strands of music floating through my brain, a deck of cards, it doesn't end. Being a writer is being able to take everything and twisting it through your eyes and fingers to plaster it on paper and often leaving bits of yourself there for the world to scrutinize.

I seem to be rambling a lot this morning. Hope it helps!

I wander my neighborhood aimlessly, usually barefoot. I purposely try to experience the more picturesque things in life. Recently when on one of my walks, I discovered an abandoned elementary school. It's old fashioned looking complete with red brick and white paint, crumbling concrete and ivy growing on the sides of the building. I want to go inside of it badly, but I don't know if it's trespassing or what. You know? I still walk around it like a creepy stalker though, and look into the windows longingly. ><;

No offinice to you Twilgith fans, but that shouldn't give people a drive v.v... but i'm just saying that because I believe your talking about fan fiction.... which to me it a waist of time and not very creative since your pretty much stealing another work and changing the story...

K I said my point on that...

what helps me is finding words oddly, like reading a Good book that actually uses good vocabulary... doesn't look like a teenage (Yes I am a teenage, but you should guess what I mean by this) had written. Helps me... since I like to write down a list of those words and add them into my own stories.

Also everyday life, everyday is a struggle which can easily be put into a book...To me, earthing and anyone can give me an idea for something, all I have to do to get an idea is keep my mind open and question things until I create my own explanation to why things are the way they are.

...I don't believe anyone on here was saying Twilight gave them inspiration for being full of awesome. We've said reading it gives us a push to publish something. "If Twilight/Eragon can be published, than I have a shot..."

Bring on your torture, your bullets, your pains

Well, when I need inspiration, I browse Photobucket. Just type something in, like, rain, or rose, or beautiful, nature, things like that. A picture is worth a thousand words, and I bank on that to be true. When I need to get going, I fire up the firefox and browse like no tomorrow.

And in my heart, things aren't the same.

I get inspired when I hang out with other writers. Us writers are intellectuals, so you come away with some deep and meaningful conversations. I'm not talking about writers online though, except for the few rare exceptions (there are a few people in this guild I won't mind hanging out with in real life, but the WF is filled with n00bs, lol). My best online friend is a graduate student who TAs and I talk with a few other writers.

In my social life, though, I try to surround myself with writers. My brother, for instance, although he's more into film and comedy. When I did NaNoWriMo the biggest inspiration I was going to the weekly meeting were we just hanged in a coffee shop and typed. It's great to be surrounded by people who think like you, they can give your insight into yourself.

So basically, I'm inspired by all of your. heart

I love browsing pictures. I usually have a specific search going on, but even then all sorts of other things pops up with completely new ideas I never would have thought of. And I just love it when I find a picture that really matches one of my characters.
