I've only seen a few that were like "wow", you know?
A lot of the time the music is either totally inappropriate or just plain cheesy. I mean, how many times can a Toph video be made with We Will Rock You as the background music?

I think the AMV totally depends on the maker. A skilled AMV-creater can turn any cheesy song (yes, even Toph in We Will Rock You) into a masterpiece. With the right order of scenes, enough impact, and a pleased audience, you have a winner.

But in reality, the number of "Jesus, that was awful" outweighs the number of "holy s**t, I'm watching that again!".
