Gift: Painting - Ethereal, evocative, beautiful, haunting; these are all words that have been used to describe Jess's paintings. No mimicking the greats or sticking to pretty, pastel visions of unicorns, kittens and rainbows for this girl. She paints from her heart and soul and the results are almost always spectacular. Even those that don't quite meet her expectations still manage to be shown in the local gallery. Getting her feelings and her dreams down on canvas is important. And allowing people to see and feel through her work? THAT is her real payment.
Virtues: Open-Minded - Jess possesses a complicated blend of beliefs and faith. However, if you really must pin a label to it, Pagan would work best. She truly and with all her heart believes in multiple gods, spirits and totems. However, she also believes in keeping her mind open to new views and possibilities. Whether it be attending a debate about the pros of Communism or a simple, intense conversation among friends as to whether or not UFOs exist, Jess keeps quiet, listens to every word said, acknowledges all sides and then continues on her way. In Jess's mind, there isn't any one true way or single great truth about the world. There's only people doing and being the best they can.
Lion Heart - Whether it be the time she managed to capture and release the giant spider that was in the girls' bathroom or the time she ran into a burning shed to save a litter of kittens, Jess seems at times to embody the true spirit of bravery, ie. acting even when you're scared spitless. She doesn't try to be brave and she certainly isn't trying to get undue amounts of attention. She simply sees something that needs done and does it, throttling down her own fear for the greater good.
The Caring Heart - Compassionate, sympathetic, kind. These are all words that others have used over the years to describe Jess. There's an incredible amount of love for the world and its inhabitants within her and she sees it as her duty to share that love. It's not at all unusual to find Jess volunteering everywhere from the local animal shelter to homeless shelters to the Salvation Army. She's even organized neighborhood drives for food and clothes and toys, whatever someone might need to help them through a rough patch in life. For those starving for simple human kindness, Jess is there to help fill them up.
Flaws: Honest to a Fault - Whomever first said that honesty is the best policy was clearly smoking some good s**t that day. Most people grow up learning the fine art of dissembling or telling the little white lie. Jess grew up learning only to tell the Truth, the Whole Truth and Nothing But The Truth. And frankly, the Truth hurts. A lot. She has an enormous mental and emotional block against lying. She simply cannot lie. At all. Ever. So, unless you really truly do want to know if that skirt makes your a** look huge, don't ask Jess. She'll only be honest with you. Granted, she'll do it in the gentlest way possible, but she won't give you any comforting lies. We think if she ever told a lie, her head might explode.
Naive - Jess was taught to be honest. She grew up being taught that the rest of the world was essentially honest. Let's just say that this worldview has left her a trifle... disadvantaged... when it comes to dealing with those who lie well and/or frequently. Because she herself is so honest, it never occurs to her to think that someone could be lying to her. And she doesn't seem to learn from past events of being lied to. Or rather, she learns, but slowly and even when it has been proven to her satisfaction that she was lied to, she will still forgive the liar and resume trusting them.
Judgemental - Hey, just because a girl keeps a fairly open mind and stays quiet doesn't mean she can't judge others. Particularly if they've already been busy judging her. Even a good girl can have some... less than pleasant thoughts about those around her. As far as Jess is concerned, very few people try to understand anyone different from themselves. And even fewer will try to understand you if you happen to show greater intelligence or creative ability than the average jock, No, everyone started judging her first and making assumptions. It's not her fault that they clearly don't understand a thing about her or that she's the only one actively trying to lead a good, life. One of these days, those judgemental bastards will be sorry for not trying to understand where Jess was coming from. Huh? What? Yes, of course Jess is truly open minded! It's just her open mindedness tends to stay strictly within the realms of the mystical and metaphysical. |
