I always have trouble with naming my characters. I know plenty of names, But I don't like to give just any random name to my characters. I like the name to just barely, very faintly seem like a reflection of their personality.
More over I have a lot of trouble with last names! Every character deserves a full name. But last names a difficult to think up.

the way i like to come up with last names for my characters is kinda weird but it always turns out pretty good. i just pick a few letters that are far away from the first letter of the first name, u no like if the first name begins with z the last name might ne Kethoe. or u can base it on their personality.

You can reflect their personalities by looking up the meanings of names. Like I have a character who's usually happy and he's named Felix, from the Latin for happy.
If you want an unusual last name, sometimes you can just not look at the keyboard, type in random letters, and see what you come up with.

Names are really important to me, so I usually look them up for specific meanings - like Naeshira does. This is my favorite website for doing this (they have all kinds of languages and they seperate them into male and female, they also allowyou to search for specific meanings) www.behindthename.com Now get naming!

I am always good with character names. If you (or anyone for that matter) would like to PM me a short description of their character(s), feel free and I shall do my best to appropriately name them.

I would also love to help anyone with names!
Just PM me descriptions and nationalities(optional) of your characters, and I will give you a few suggestions of first and last names! (I'll even do middle names if you wish!).

Names are always really important, and always really really fun. And your right, surnames are a lot harder to deal with than last names. However, I have a solution! (Sort of.) If the character has a certain ethnicity, or multiple ethnicities, that you really like, than google something along the lines of blank ethnicity here surnames. You'll always get something interesting.

i agree, names are often difficult. maybe that's because all my characters are oddly complex, so, reflectively, names seem one-dimensional a lot of the time. i seem to find good ones though, if i really put some time into it. and in the end it's worth it because those names are going to stick with your character for a long time. and if it's really good it'll be nice and catchy once you get published. wink
