0NCE UP0N A TIME...
Nine years ago, Dorian was your average man....well, not average. He's always been brilliant, and was graduating college early, and currently teasing his girlfriend Marianna that she was silly and slow because she was still a Junior instead of way past all her medical schooling. Straight out of college he'd already secured a high end cushy, and well funded, research job for Airmid, a well-to-do and famous bio-engineering hospital and lab facility. Once on the research team, he quickly began to shine within two years time for his prototypes of what is now Claudia. 001 and 003 were the best attempts until number 005 came along, which is now the final form of Claudia.
Due to his excellent performance, he jumped ahead of his peers once again and became team leader of his own research team and worked with many of the best professionals in the field of bio-engineering and bionic-medicine, along with his precious Marianna. By the time he turned 25, he and Marianna were inseperable, and decided to take the last prototype 005 (named Claudia for her abbreviation and because Marianna liked the name) into their home to take care of her as if she were their own child, and to monitor the various new organs and medical experiments being tested on her. Marianna couldn't have children physically due to a childhood disease, and Dorian was more than content to treat the little android as their own, soon after the decision Dorian proposed to Marianna and they were married that Spring. Living in his family mansion, since Dorian had already come from a lavish background, they were a happy family unit, and Marianna frequently was out in the gardens, particularly the rose maze.
For two and a half years they were happy together, but it was not fated to last. Thinking she'd survived the worst of it, Marianna's childhood disease that attacked the organs and attacked the brain's cognitive senses had relapsed and struck again. Marianna refused to tell Dorian, and instead forged her own medical test results to fool him into thinking it was a mild form of teburculosis and treated herself with fake penicillin shots, which were really filled with large amounts of pure, undiluted morphine. Dorian went unawares until a few months later, upon seeing Marianna go into withdrawl without the 'penicillin' and from that point on kept morphine and low-grade tranquilizers with him at all times to ease his wife's suffering. Yet while he knew she had another illness she refused to speak of, he let her keep her privacy as long as she reassured him it was not a fatal disease.
While Dorian was working on Claudia in the lab one Sunday afternoon, Marianna had gone out to buy more hanging flowers for the porch and to have a day out. Without Dorian's knowledge, Marianna had collapsed and a mass seizure, the illness finally taking the last of her brain's senses away. She was taken unidentified to the hospital and pronounced brain dead three hours later, though her body was still technically functioning but only barely. The resident superior wrote the order to pull her plug, and Dorian was called by a co-worker that had passed her room while bringing his son in for a sprained ankle.
After that day, Dorian's world was dark and cold, and he did not speak a kind word to anyone for a full year. Short and curt with his assistants, he often abused them and took out his anger on them. Though he's returned mostly to his old self, he still carries around a heavy amount of guilt for simply not being there when she needed him most, and for being too self-involved to care about anyone else through his own suffering. The past six months have been better, though to make up for the pain and lonely nights, he frequently sleeps and ditches the nurses (both male and female) that work in the lab with the doctors and research teams, and has severe relationship issues. To become involved in a serious relationship one would have to be patient and understanding of him, and would have to coax him out of his cocoon of grief, guilt, and private self-loathing much like coaxing out a timid deer from its den.
Since Marius came along, he's been doing even better in life, and has another purpose to dedicate himself to. Taking care of the Proto until he's grown up and can stand on his own. He hopes to make Marius his permanent understudy, and trusts the four-armed helper indefinately. He's also working on a project to 'grow up' Claudia into a teenage body and to give her all the elements of being a human and alive. He's still fighting corporate for a suitable corpse to reanimate with Claudia's brain functions and organs so she can be truly classified as a 'human' instead of an 'android'. Claudia is not really human. She's more like a toaster.....that talks....and sorta learns, but is mostly programmed. She just stores things in her memory. Like, to learn how to act like a human child, she was put into a controlled daycare-like setting in the lab with other kids to learn to act the way they did, and was exposed to Dorian's wife and learned what SHE wanted in a little girl and took on that personality.
What Claudia REALLY means is::

Claudia's purpose as a bio-engineered machine that programs memory and whatnot is to experiment/replace the bionic components used in medicine (such as a certain experimental blue plasma which is the experiment I'm starting her out on that's supposed to be a stand-in for blood/blood transfusions). She has a bionic heart, lungs, bonestructure, ect. and for all purposes she regularly gets parts removed, improved, or vetoed depending on how well her health develops with that particular experimental component. She only belongs to Dorian because he's one of the head doctors/scientists on the team experimenting with these parts for the good of the human race, and because Claudia seemed to 'imprint' on he and his wife when Marianna was still living.
Because of the way she is, she presently has no set personality. It's something on Dorian's mind though, and will become an ever-present issue when Marius awakens and threatens Claudia's place in the family.
