...Earned nothing but trouble, Zara knew. But between boredom and the pre-Hatching jitters that had become an all-too-familiar sensation, the former weyrbrat was strongly disinclined to do anything other than...oh, maybe hide until it was all over. Since that was out of the question, she had to think of something else to do. What would look productive enough to not earn a second glance from her elders yet fail to be mind-numbingly boring?

Well... both Florian and she herself had enough of a reputation for their studies that perhaps if anyone inquired why she was loafing about with him, she could claim to be studying the craft. Perfect cover, right?

Beryl clinging to her back in a most uncomfortable manner, Zara knocked lightly at the door of Florian's excuse for a room. "You there?"

Since Florian had no need for excuses, he actually had been reading a recently pilfered teaching scroll from the Weyr Records Room. As a Journeyman, he was trusted enough to take it back to his room for study, but he knew it'd be his hide if the scroll was not returned by nightfall. He'd met Zara recently with the Dragonhealers, and like most weyrbrats the world over, she had crawled under his skin by being just so....

..open.

Take the familiar query, were she being proper she would have at least said a simple 'pardon me.' Of course, Ghilani NEVER knocked, but Florian had grown accustomed to the starsmith's eccentricities. So he kept himself fully clothed at all times, and was careful to not startle when the door opened unexpectedly.

Roco fluttered his wings from his perch at the edge of Florian's cot when the Healer journeyman stood to get the door. Opening it, he glared down at Zara. "Of course. What do you need?" Roco chirped a protest, since he liked Zara just fine, and he knew that his person did too... even if Florian tried to hide it.

While Beryl flitted up to Roco's perch to chitter at him in overenthusastic greeting, Zara quickly ducked through the door as though Florian might change his mind if she were too slow. A corner of her mouth pulled to the side in a slight smile at his glare, though. "Oh, cut it out. You never were good at looking scary, so might as well not bother." She paused, then added, "At least I do knock, you know."

Which was only right, when dealing with anyone but other weyrbred. Holders and Crafters could be woefully ignorant of the workings of their own bodies, and tended to tiptoe around subjects like...reproduction, for example. Zara had no desire whatsoever to deal with someone like Florian if she were to walk in on him in a delicate situation.

Delighted to have the company, Roco chittered back at Beryl and fanned his wings. Florian paused glaring at Zara to glare at Roco and Zara's green, before refocusing his attention back on the thin healer apprentice.. who had someone made her way into his room. What was WITH weyrbred folk? Did growing up in a Weyr entail ownership of every nook and cranny?

"I don't have to be good at looking scary Zara, the attempt in and of itself should be a deterrent." He rumbled, closing the door and turning around to lean against it with his arms folded. "What brings you?"

"Back where you're from, yes. Here...not so much. You've gotta be good at it for it to work." Zara shrugged, unfazed by Florian's irritation. He always seemed grumpy about something, and she'd long since grown used to it. As for Beryl...well, as long as she wasn't getting into something the Candidate could care less. "I was bored...you're a friend. Is there a rule against visiting friends now?"

"Not yet." He rumbled again, though he had to admit to himself that this sudden insurgence of 'friends' in his life was a bit refreshing. He'd never been much of a socialite, preferring the quiet solitude of his studies or the stillroom over the more boisterous activities of his former fellows back at the Healer Hall. But between Ghilani declaring them roommates and Zara invading the Weyr's healing infirmary, he'd eventually come to the conclusion that 'going with the flow' would be the best course of action at this point.

"Why would you be bored? Don't you have anatomy review?"

"Pfft." A nonchalant hand-wave followed the sound. "I've read that scroll until my eyes could fall out. If I don't have it by now, I probably never will." Eyeing Florian, she raised a brow and grinned. "You're awfully interested in my studies...you hit your head on something?" It wasn't like she was having trouble learning the craft. On the contrary, she was decent at it. But it was a backup plan, in case things went awry...in her mind, not to be mistaken with the highly preferable life of a dragonrider. "One of these days you'll find something you like other than those scrolls."

"Arrogance is unbecoming Zara, there is always something new to learn every time you reread a scroll." Florian replied smoothly, maneuvering around her to sit on Ghilani's cot for the time being, motioning with his right hand to invite her to sit on his cot across from him. "And as a senior Journeyman, I have a vested interest in maintaining relations with the Craft apprentices, namely knowing that you will be capable of any task I have to set you to." As with most things 'Florian,' the words came out sounding worse then he would have intended. He was never one to boss around the apprentices, nor was he a strict drillmaster. His own studies attracted his attention far more then ego trips gleaned on the backs of younger students.

"You should also know by now that there are several things I like more then scrolls." He meant dragons, of course. Why else would he be here at a Weyr instead of at the Fort Healer Hall? Dragons in general fascinated him, and as Ghilani was often apt to put it, if he didn't make it as a dragonrider, that might be for the better since he'd always had eyes for every dragon that crossed his line of sight.

Zara sighed. "Do I really need to explain a reason for any moment I have?" Had she been apprenticed to Florian, she might have simply gone elsewhere and let him think she'd returned to her studies...but she wasn't. She wasn't even much of an official apprentice. "I'm capable, and you should know that by now. Now that we've settled that, can we move on said other things you like?" Scowling at him, she seated herself on the cot. "For instance, what do you think of this clutch?"

Florian arched a brow at her mannerisms, but let the topic slide. Like Ghilani, he'd learned with Zara to just... follow the lead at times like these. He had never fully appreciated the work it took to become a Dragonhealer until arriving in a Weyr, so he put Zara's evasions off as simple procrastinations.

"What do I think of this clutch?" He reiterated the question mostly for his own benefit, also giving himself time to think about it without sitting there like a slack jawed fool. "Well, to be scientific it looks quite healthy and robust. I have high hopes that all of the eggs will hatch properly formed hatchlings."
