Why was Milotic suddenly named the most beautiful pokemon EVER? I'll admit it, Milotic is gorgeous, but the best ever? I'm sorry, but I think Dragonair is much more breathtaking. Also, pokemon like Bellossom and Ninetales are amazing too. Any opinions?

And I personally think that Ninetales is the pinnacle of beauty. But that's just me. However, Milotic's gimmick is its beauty, so while one can find it repulsive, it's still cannonly considered the most beautiful by a majority of the in-game Pokémon world.

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, after all. wink

Fair enough. I just wonder how people would receive Milotic if it was never labeled. It's all power of suggestion, I know a few people who think Milotic is beautiful just because the game says it is.

I actively collect Milotic despite her lack of merchandise. For the longest time, I didn't like her, despite her tagging as Most Beautiful. She wasn't my cup of tea. But I came to love her because an RP character of mine owned a snarky Milotic and I grew fond of the giant water snake.

So I think that even if she wasn't the "Most Beautiful", she'd still have quite a lot of fans.

Fair enough. Like I said, I agree that Milotic is a remarkable pokemon.

Dragonair is still prettier, though.

While I agree that Dragonair is an absolutely beautiful pokemon--possibly the most beautiful--I would say that there's a lot of cases where the pokemon could be considered 'beautiful'. Take Corsola--while we may not think of it as a 'beautiful' pokemon, real coral is very intricate. Bellossom, Lopunny, even Persian--all these could be considered beautiful, depending on taste.

As far as I go, though, I need to say I favor different traits in my pokemon than beauty. Mreh.

Heh, yeah. I was thinking the same, but the most beautiful to me would be Gardevoir. mrgreen

Every pokemon is beautiful in it's own way, even pokemon like Muk or Koffing. I just don't think it's fair to label Milotic as THE beautiful pokemon. And yes, Persian is gorgeous.

But they're not basing it on the actual, in real life fandom. This isn't Nintendo saying that Milotic is the superior Pokémon. This is GameFreak supplying one of their creations with an backstory; The Pokémon version of The Ugly Duckling.

It's no different than the "Ninetales can control peoples' minds" and "Alakazam's IQ is over 9000" backstories.

And how often do we see these backstories coming up canonically in the anime?
Maaaaaaaaaaan, Ninetails having that in the anime would be so much win... Or if any Pokemon actually lived up to their backstories.

That ninetails in PMD was win though.

I believe there was a similar situation in which a Ninetales used some sort of 'fox-magic' to project that she was a 'beautiful' human woman, who lived in a wondrous castle all alone, with piles of gold and food.

Team Rocket lost it when the spell was broken and the food disappeared. xD

All Ninetales are win. :D

But I'm not surprised none of the in-game backstories ever show up in the anime. The anime tends to be a dumbed down/generalization of the Pokémon world, while the games tend to be more in-depth.

@Shippo: Yeah, if I remember correctly, the story was the Ninetales' original master had "gone away", or something, and never came back, but the Ninetales still waited many, many years for his return (I think it was implied that she waited centuries). Then Ash and company come along, and Brock apparently looked like the Ninetales' old master, so she created the illusion of a pretty young girl in a big mansion in order to interact with them and try to get Brock, at least, to stay with her.
