When I play I don't have to lick my lips unless they are incredibly dry or something... Then again, if you're licking your lips, and that makes you play better then why stop? 'If it ain't broken then don't fix it.'
Thats my opinion anyways...

I always keep some blistex in my trumpet case. You never know... Also, this may sound crazy, but A&D ointment works miracles on dry cracked lips!! Try it, you'll thank me.

I play flute and trumpet, and I can't play either with chapped lips. I too always lick my lips, it definitely helps. Don't stop, but wear lots of chapstick when you're not playing so your lips don't dry out as much. I put lots on every night when I go to bed.

Personally its good to have moist lips I keep mine relatively moist or I cant play you find that it helps with higher and lower octaves like pedal tones.
Dry airy tones are sometimes good but, if you dont like it play in a corner so you can hear yourself then try playing around and adjusting things to see whats better. Often its just you need more air after all I play a Stradivarius its known for its dry airy sound but, it needs a good tone so I have to put buckets of air in I sound like I am two years older than I am when I play it.

I do the same thing. But you don't sound airy cuz of that. All you really can do is blow more harder (not that way for the pervs out there). But just more air, and that doesn't necessarily mean faster air, just more.

Qastor Sugino Sakada Personally its good to have moist lips I keep mine relatively moist or I cant play you find that it helps with higher and lower octaves like pedal tones. Dry airy tones are never good. It's always best to have the warmest tone possible. Stradivarius is one of the best trumpets there are and they are not known for there dry airy sound there known to have good quality. More air doesn't make warmer tone a good embouchure and warm air does (there are also other things but these are the basics). And last age doesn't make you sound better you can have better skills that someone older than you. my friend (who plays clarinet) and I (trumpet) are both the youngest in band and we are both 1st chair in our sections.(and our competition is all seniors).
