E'rik

User ImageGiven Name: Ennrik
Honorific: E'rik
Age: 20
Sex: male
Orientation: heterosexual
Craft: Dragonriding
Rank: Wingrider, Monsoon Wing
Physical Description: Of average height (approximately five foot ten) and a build most consider slight, Ennrik is not the sort of person one would back in a wrestling match, but he's quick and he does have some muscle tone, though it's the sort one gets through sport, rather than exercise. His hair is blond and worn fairly short, or else it curls. His eyes are a very dark brown. When he smiles you can see his gums and his teeth look small, but they truly are his second set. His skin is fair, but will get a light tan with enough exposure to the sun. There are usually dark circles under his eyes from the long days he goes without remembering to sleep or feed himself. To use Terran terms, he looks much like a short Norwegian.
Personality: Ennrik is very clever, and knows it, and sometimes that means he can be a bit of an a**. For those who can appreciate his humor, he does have a keen (as in sharp) and sometimes unkind sense of humor. He likes to create verbal traps for people and let them walk into them for his amusement. He enjoys competition but dislikes conflict and is more likely to avoid distasteful situations than deal with them immediately. He does care deeply for those few people about whom he cares and tries to look after them without their knowledge.
Pets: A blue firelizard named Cobalt.
Other/Talents: A very fine baritone singing voice and a passable hand at scriptwork, capable of reading clear writing with relative ease. Obviously he's familiar with the teaching ballads and musical notation as well. He can play some instruments, but he's best on a guitar and wind instruments, though he's woefully out of practice.

history

Ennrik went to Harper Hall to train as a singer once his voice settled and his Hold's Harper realized that his voice was too good to waste. His voice settled early, around thirteen, so he spent a number of years training to become a Harper, working intensively on training his voice to the fullest of its potential. His master was one of those who insisted that her pupils not perform until she deemed them ready, and for someone with as much potential as he had she kept him from performing, even with choirs. She wanted him to be a soloist, and to make his debut performance incredibly memorable. The day of his debut performance came during his eighteenth year, and he was fine until moments before he had to sing. Then he was struck with the most debilitating and unexpected case of stage fright anyone in the Hall had seen in a number of years. He was practically paralysed with fear, and nearly fainted. In the face of this colossal failure, Ennrik tried to deal with his condition, but over the next two years it never improved. If anything, it got worse as the pressure of each successive failure weighed down on him at each attempt. He was offered other options, but he didn't take them. If he couldn't be a singer, he didn't want to be surrounded by them. He returned to his Hold in something resembling disgrace to sulk and "re-think" his life. It was during this time that he was Searched.

During his sixteenth turn Ennrik received word that his mother had died of an infection that set into an untreated wound. The accounts of the circumstances surrounding her death were described in scant detail by his father: she got cut, it got infected, and she died. His sister, Cyrenna, elaborated, explaining that their mother and father had been fighting about their father's tendency to strike his children when they displeased him. Cyrenna claimed that their mother had raised a knife and threatened to use it on their father, and though she didn't know what happened exactly, she was certain that their father had not killed their mother. Ennrik, having experienced his father's brutality first-hand, is not inclinded to believe that his father had nothing to do with it, despite the fact that the two stories blame infection for her death. He would like an explanation as to how, if his mother was wielding the knife, she was the one who ended up with an infected cut.
recent history

After being Searched by L'mel and Dimeth and taken to Ista Weyr, Ennrik settled fairly quickly into the routine of Candidacy. He did his chores and minded his manners and even kept his sharp tongue in check, but he kept mostly to himself. Every available moment he would steal away to practice his music in private. He never shirked his duty, per se, but he was usually in a rush to finish it and not particularly interested in socializing or meeting new people. He was convinced that he would fail to Impress and planned to return to Harper Hall after that to complete his training. He'd been close to walking the tables when he left, after all.

Ennrik was proven wrong, however, when at his first Hatching he Impressed brown Daramulath. Naturally, he was shocked and overjoyed by this development, but music had been his entire existence since he was thirteen years old. He found that even with the added responsibility of a dragonet to care for and the burden of Weyrling chores, he was unable to give up music, and so he kept long hours, stretching both himself and Daramulath to their limits. He knew it was a risk to his dragon and that he would be in unimaginable heaps of trouble if he was ever caught by someone in authority, but he simply couldn't stop singing and playing.

He did make some friends as a Weyrling, namely Kallista, who Impressed green Astarteth from the same clutch that produced Daramulath, and Firyal, who was a Candidate. He became a bit more social as Daramulath got older and proved better able to handle the strain E'rik demanded of him in order that he could continue to have music in his life. By the time Daramulath reached adulthood it was not really a secret that E'rik still practiced his Harpering, but it also was not considered important. E'rik was doing other things, too, and he had not allowed his music to interfere with his duty to the Weyr. Just his sleep schedule. Finally being allowed to pursue sexual relationships again took even more time from him that he could have spent sleeping, but it was a sacrifice he was willing to make, being an adolescent male.

Daramulath

User Image
Daramulath is a calm soul, to say the least. Nothing much shakes this brown – through thick and thin he is calm and level-headed, offering his two cents to a rocky situation without seeming intrusive. Whether it’s during an especially hard threadfall or a debate amongst dragons, this brown always seems to come up with a good answer to any problem, doing so quickly and calmly, especially in emergencies. Logical, practical and overall an intelligent dragon, Daramulath is a rather intuitive dragon, and tries not to be biased during a dispute, which makes him a very good peacekeeper. His memory is also slightly better than most dragons, and can occasionally even remember bits of things well beyond a normal dragon’s memory span.

Daramulath is slightly large for his color, standing taller than both of the other browns in the clutch and edging in on the size of a small bronze. Even so, he’s a gentle giant, and never has qualms with any of the other dragons, whether they try to create trouble with him or not, and would never even consider bullying the other dragonets for food or attention.

In a wing, Daramulath’s stamina rivals any bronze, although he probably could not beat any dragon in a race. He seems to have mastered the “slow and steady” way of things, yet has a remarkably good turning radius for a dragon of his size. In a work he works well with the other dragons, and follows directions without hesitation or second thought, and can often, respectfully, offer advice if need be.

When it comes to interacting with other dragons on a social level, this is where Daramulath sometimes seems to get confused. Usually he has no problems interacting with the other dragons, but often sexuality and greens confuse him. Or rather, he doesn’t really understand how to flirt. That doesn’t mean he doesn’t try, but often times he ends up saying something slightly off-kilter. Instead, he prefers to avoid situations that could make the green he’s trying to converse with feel awkward, instead keeping more to the male dragons, especially Blue Dievath.

Cobalt

User Image

Name: Cobalt
Bondmate: E'rik
Color: blue
Personality: An attention-hungry fool, Cobalt will do just about anything for a pet or a cuddle. For food he will befriend anyone. He is incredibly difficult to upset and never remains upset for very long. His favorite thing in the world to do is sleep, preferably somewhere on E'rik or Daramulath. He has a very short memory, and tends to disregard his human's wishes when they don't coincide with his own.
History: E'rik received Cobalt's egg while recovering from whatever virulant nastiness struck the Weyr about a year after he Impressed Daramulath. The egg was a gift from Firyal, whose bronze firelizard, Numenor, flew a wild green. It had taken her some time to find the nest, and so by the time E'rik got the egg it was nearly ready to hatch.
Training: Nothing that really sticks.

The African Elephant
African elephants are bigger than Asian Elephants. Males stand 3.64 meters (12 ft) tall at the shoulder and weigh 5,455 kg (12,000 lbs), while females stand 3 meters (10 ft) and weigh 3,636 kg to 4,545 kg (8,000 to 11,000 lbs).[2] However, males can get as big as 15,000 lbs (6,800 kg).

Poaching significantly reduced the population of Loxodonta in certain regions during the 20th century. An example of this poaching pressure is in the eastern region of Chad—elephant herds there were substantial as recently as 1970, with an estimated population of 400,000; however, by 2006 the number had dwindled to about 10,000. The African elephant nominally has governmental protection, but poaching is still a serious issue.[5]

Human encroachment into or adjacent to natural areas where bush elephants occur has led to recent research into methods of safely driving groups of elephants away from humans, including the discovery that playback of the recorded sounds of angry honey bees are remarkably effective at prompting elephants to flee an area.[6] Some elephant communities have grown so large, in Africa, that some communities have resorted to culling large amounts to help sustain the ecosystem.[1]

The Australian God Daramulum
The Australian (Wiradyuri and Kamilaroi) sky-god, son of the creator-god Baiame. He is the intermediary between his father and humans. Daramulum ("one-leg") is associated with the moon, and the one of the sources of supernatural power accessible to medicine men. He is the chief totemic ancestor of the Yuin tribe. Representations of Daramulum are only shown during initiation rites.

Oh God, Why Me?
Sharp Ennrik will learn patience and kindness from his dragon. While people appreciate a keen wit, they don't always appreciate that wit turned against them. A kind, patient dragon will help even him out a bit, don't you think?

Daramulath is sleeeepppy

Congratulations on your Impression! <3
