((Because my brain is officially dead and no one get's their feelings hurt, the winner of this flight has been predetermined. A'dan's Sigranth will fly Astarteth. But please, everyone is welcome to post whether or not you have a dragon! Always amusing to read how NEW people might be affected by a flight!))

It was two days after Haanyath's flight and her sister still was picking at her. Astarteth, usually pleasant, was aggravated and snapping even at her own rider. The slim green this morning was sitting on a ledge about the feeding pens watching the prey move. Kallista was someplace in the Weyr doing not Astar stuff. The green stretched out her wings and pumped them, testing their strength.

Snarling, her red eyes caught sight of a young buck. Overhead, dragons of all colors flew above. Browns and bronzes practiced formations, blues and greens followed or flew for the mere joy of flying. How dare they all fly and not notice her! Astarteth! The most beautiful and sleekest of all greens. She would make them forget the golds and all others! Now was her time! Roaring, issuing a challenge to all around her, she snap down off the ledge and landed square on the young buck. She knew that she need that hot, fresh blood going down her throat and into her belly. Sucking greedily, she pounced another beast before finishing the first. Snarling, blood dripping from her maul, she glowed brightly. Her blood boiled with the urge to have everyone's eyes on her. She would show them all how fast she was, how quick she would turn! If they wanted her, they would have to be just as fast. Belly burning and driven by instinct, Astarteth leapt into the skies and called for all to realize that now was her FLIGHT!

````````````````
Kallista was inside helping to stack sacks of fire stone and count them. Thread was coming, she was sure of it, just like all the other before her had been. Not only was she stacking bags but checking them for any tunnel snake damage. No one was sure how or why but it seemed the snakes would eat anything they could fit into their mouths.
She had been aware of Astarteth's moodiness for sometime now. And it only increased after Haanyath's flight. She was sure her dragon's clutch mate had made a few comments to irk her sister. But T'ka seemed to be in an interesting mood as well. So far, she hadn't breached the subject with her room mate who seemed to have a lot on her mind lately. Suddenly, Kallista was mentally slammed by Astarteth's anger and sexuality. Slumping down to the ground, the worker she was with gave her a shake. Holding her head in her hands, the teen fought to gain some sort of stable mental connection with her green.
Astarteth?
Nothing. Nothing but emotion and the need to be out in the open and fly. Getting up, Kallista pushed the worker away, shaking her head and stumbling into the hallways. She had to get outside. Thankfully, it didn't matter too much if Astarteth gorged. There were no eggs to worry about or mates to satisfy. Groaning, she blinked once or twice when direct sunlight hit her eyes. How had she gotten outside? Instinct lead her towards her green's flight path. Kallista could barely distinguish where she was at in the bowl. All she knew was that she had to get to her dragon, had to try and stay in control... Shards! Why was it so hot? It was a battle to remember what the Weyrling Master said about that first flight. There had to be some human left inside.
Looking straight up, she could see her glowing green challenging those around her. They all wanted her! Yes they did!
As always, it seemed, A'dan was outside in the harsh golden sun, half-blind as he worked oil into his flying gear, resting in the shade cast by his great bronze companion's side. Still, in the scorching heat of the day, Sigranth had been unusually restless, where usually the lazy narcissist would have had himself oiled and bathed four times and be sleeping peaceably in the sun with his eyes lidded and whirling deep blue like a jewel far beneath the sea. But today, he was shifting, restless, great claws dragging against the stone. What is it, mine? A'dan offered to the restless creature, though he thought he knew what it was. The familiar tensing low in his belly, the way his heart had begun to speed up -- like flying drill, but breathless, the feeling that his world had widened beyond boots-on-the-floor and frail humanity. There was a dragon in Flight somewhere in the Weyr, he thought. And Sigranth...
... am not chasing her! came the fierce reply, half-agonized, on the tail end of that thought. It is that green! His claws raked the stone again, a sound of utter frustration. Violet edged into the bronze's gaze as he heard the trumpeted challenge, and A'dan could feel, as if it was his own frustration, Sigranth's pride raw and laziness warring with the desire to chase, to catch, to HAVE.
Go, mine, A'dan sent back almost tenderly, if tensely. I will be with you.
Lust, greed, and pride tangled, and great bronze wings spread, catching the hot air and launching his great body skyward and orienting after Astarteth, as Sigranth called out his own challenge. None of you stand a chance!
The mild-mannered blond rider found himself reeling, as always, his mind above the ground conflicting with his boots' stumbling.
"What are you doing?" E'rik asked, exasperated, as Dara abruptly shook him off his back and into the lake with a splash.
Firyal, sunning herself on a rock nearby, glanced up over at him quizzically before replying slowly, as though to a simpleton, "The same thing I've been doing for the last half hour or so."
"Not you," E'rik answered shortly. "Dara."
I...have to catch her, Dara said. He didn't seem to be quite holding it together, which was very unusual for the calm brown.
"Catch who?" E'rik asked irritably.
For Firyal's benefit, E'rik spoke to his dragon aloud so she could have some idea what was going on mentally. He'd never gotten over the feeling that it was rude to speak to Dara mentally when there were others present who couldn't be privy to their conversation. Unless there was something he didn't mean for them to hear, of course, but this didn't seem to be one of those situations.
Astarteth, Daramulath replied more urgently, turning to look at his human over his shoulder. Then E'rik noticed the violet in his eyes and quickly swam backward away from his dragon to avoid his fanning wings as the large brown took to the air.
"What's going on?" Firyal asked, propping herself up on her elbows.
"Stay there," E'rik said, fighting to keep himself aloof from Daramulath's lust long enough to find a better place to be. He didn't think he could make it back to his weyr, and he didn't want to run, dripping, through the Weyr to get there. It would be better if he stayed in the water, maybe. Cold water would be good.
Flushed from the effort of maintaining a distance from Daramulath in a period of such turbulant emotion, E'rik said, "Actually, you should go. Dara's chasing Astarteth."
An unreadable expression crossed Firyal's face, but she nodded once and vanished on the far side of the rock. He didn't follow the path of her departure. He and Daramulath melded into one entity as they took to the sky in pursuit of the coquettish green.
This was true flying! The green pumped her wings higher and higher, skimming the top of the clouds and then coming in low to the ground. Already she could see several start to rise and give chase. Blues, browns, and already a bronze.
She turned and charged straight for the group before heading up and over one startled blue. Screeching in jest, how could they dare think she would be easy to catch. No one was as fast as she or could turn as quickly as her! Again, Astarteth took off on tear across the Weyr skies.
``````````````

Kallista was covered in sweat. She was NOT going to strip in the middle of the Weyrbowl. It wasn't shrewdness that caused this thought but the fact that it would just not be a good idea. Holding her arms tightly, Kallista tried to breath slowly and keep in control for a little bit longer.

But it was so hard, the longer and further that Astarteth flew. Not good. Not good. Moving blindly, she tried to get closer to her dragon and ran into one of the rider's whose blue was chasing her green. Instinctively, she reached out but then let go. No. No contact. Not yet.
