L'rir tightened the riding straps around Toreth's neck in preparation for the upcoming training flight. D'Tai, L'rir's Wingleader, had "volunteered" him and a few others to help with a training exercise for the Senior Weyrlings, threatening them with promises that they would be cleaning Wher-crap the rest of their lives if they didn't follow through. L'rir fully believed in the threat, as did the rest of his wing-mates, and though grumbling, did as they were told.

What are we doing today, BrotherMine? Toreth inquired to his rider. Toreth sounded excited, as he always was when he went flying with L'rir. His tail was practically wagging with a mind of its own. L'rir sighed but had to laugh, perhaps Toreth's excitement was contagious. He hadn't particularly been looking forward to helping train a group of greenhorns, but it could end up beinginteresting. He'd just have to stop himself from laughing too much at the Weyrlings that were still awkward with flying.

As an amused smile crept up on his face remembering the first flight of the new batch of Weyrlings, a man came by with a large sack. "L'rir!" He called out to gain the rider's attention.

L'rir turned to look at the man, recognizing him instantly. "Hey there! What're you doing here? Shouldn't you be down guarding your stones from prying hands?" L'rir laughed, as a few Turns ago, he himself had been one of those prying hands.

"Haha, very funny. Here, take your firestone." Less than amused, he threw the heavy sack at the rider, who caught it with a great deal of difficulty.

"Firestone?" He asked, barely managing to get the words out from the strain of the weight. He finally set the bag down, and took a few deep breaths for himself. "I wasn't aware this was a flame exercise, I heard we were doing formations..." L'rir was a bit troubled. Although he'd had to go through the training himself, there wasn't a dragonrider out there who wouldn't be a bit wary to fly with inexperienced flaming Weyrlings. Of course, he wouldn't put it past his Wingleader to volunteer them for this kind of exercise either. D'tai had been looking for a good way to punish L'rir's recent behavioral problems, and he'd certainly found it. L'rir let out a big sigh.

"Don't fuss at me, I'm just doing what I'm told, and they told me to make sure the dragons had firestone for today's exercise. Now if you'll excuse me..." Without even waiting for a reply, the man went back to grab more firestone for the other riders.

Oh, firestone....it doesn't taste good, but it tingles nice in my throat. Toreth wiggled his large body in anticipation.
