Name: Emori
Age: 18
Sex: Female
Orientation: Heterosexual
Craft: Dragonrider
Rank: Senior Weyrling
Font color: #451000 (Only when speaking telepathically with Inannath)
Physical Description: Emori’s most prominent feature is her eyes. They are unusually large and almond-shaped with brown irises. Their size makes them striking and they seem pretty at first glance, but the longer one gazes into them, the more alien Emori begins to look—almost as if someone else’s eyes had been placed in her face. Her hair, straight, flat, and black, ends just past her shoulders, with sloping bangs down to her cheek-bones and parted on the right side. She isn’t especially curvy, as far as her body goes, but she has enough to make her clearly female. She normally stands at five feet, three inches, but can squeeze in an extra inch when she fully straightens up.

Personality: This girl has been holdbound since she was born, and so will have quite a time conforming to the bustle of weyr life. She’s always depended on others, but making her own choice to become a candidate was her first step in becoming a more self-reliant person. She isn’t aware of this yet. Emori has very strong ethics and does not deal well with guilt—though she has little trouble making others feel guilty if they are, by her book, in the wrong. Admittedly, she was a bit of a tattletale as a child, but nowadays she prefers to go straight to the culprit to set things right.

On a somewhat humorous note, Emori loves to wear fancy clothes, as they make up for her plainness, and whenever possible, she wears hats or headdresses that minimize her too-big eyes. She’s dealt with enough teasing over these oddities that it doesn’t bother her anymore. Her interest in men is currently rather superficial, due to a recent affair with one of the lads back home. They’re nice to look at and maybe flirt a little, but heaven forbid she actually get Close to them.

Pets: N/A
Other/Talents: Not a talent, obviously, but she has a son named Arrone who is about a Turn old. He’s a product of her teenage curiosities, and since he was born out of wedlock, he’s being raised as one of his great-uncle’s children.

Before being Searched:

As the niece of a Lord Holder, Emori never had to live too roughly. She grew up with her numerous siblings and cousins, playing silly games like Dress-up and Capture-the-Dragon. The latter game never meant anything sinister to her until she was older and allowed to hear and participate in grown-up conversations. The holdfolk were quite fond of talking about the dragonmen and their undeserved “tithes.” These men also enjoyed kidnapping young men and women from the holds to take back to their weyrs. Raised in such an environment, with no first-hand experience with the riders, Emori believed it all. She hated them just as much as anyone else for taking what they pleased from her family and friends. There was no reason for it, save that “Thread” excuse, which had been invalid for nearly two hundred years.

Imagine her horror when she was Searched. Emori, along with another girl and several boys, were chosen by two leather-clothed men and their gigantic blue monsters. They were told they didn’t have to go, but it seemed impossible to outmaneuver the smooth-talking dragonriders. They were almost hypnotic, easily convincing the boys to come, no matter how loudly their parents protested. They’d have a chance to fight. A chance to fly. A chance for so many freedoms one could never find in a hold. In the end, Emori also went with the men, but not for these things.

What made her go, despite her fear, was the blueriders’ description of what happened to hatchlings that did not find the One. She’d looked at the two immense beasts whose necks they sat astride, unable to imagine how such grand, if terrifying, creatures could be denied life… just like that. She did not want to be the one who was not there. Not when she was so desperately needed.

She came to Ista Weyr, determined to look on the bright side of things, but Emori was completely out of her element. She hoped that the Hatching would come swiftly, so she could fail to Impress, free her conscience, and go home.

After being Searched/Before Impression:
(Beginning of roleplayed events)

Besides being compelled to work harder than she ever had before, nothing much happened to Emori at Ista Weyr until the Gather. There, she met Lanakirene, a candidate whom she mistook for a boy. They had a bit of an argument about the holder's lack of interest in the Hatching she would attend, which ended in Lana's storming off. There was also a (real) man there, who Emori recognized and meant to speak to, but her row with Lana kept her from getting to him before he left.

Later, after the Gather, she had another interesting encounter with Lana, and a greenrider named F'sey. She also met a weyrbrat named Kella, who mistrusted her at first, but they warmed to each other after some conversation. Kella was yet another of the many candidates who would be Standing.

As the days wore on, Emori avoided S'kagi, who was the familiar man she'd seen at the Gather. His status as a bronze dragonrider, which she'd learned of upon her return to Ista, destroyed any interest she had in speaking with him. He managed to corner her, though, and a calm, thoughtful discussion about the worth of the Weyrs ensued, contrary to both of their expectations. S'kagi then proposed a deal to Emori: If she did not Impress at the upcoming Hatching, and if he could not convince her that her time at the Weyr was worthwhile, he would return her to her uncle's hold himself. They shook on it, both believing they had the upper hand.

Emori went to the Hatching, firmly believing she would not Impress. Halfway through the event, a green dragonet of the brightest shade anyone had ever seen was born, and it made straight for her. She Impressed the stunning but exhaustively talkative Inannath, vastly broadening her world view in the space of moments.

Name: Inannath
Color: Green
Font color: #74C01A (Speech only)
Physical Description: Inannath is an exceedingly small dragon, even for a green. She came from the smallest egg in her clutch, and she never ended up catching up to her clutch siblings. She doesn’t seem to notice her small size most of the time, though lining up Inannath with other greens is often humorous. She looks like she’s half-grown compared to most of them. She can’t hold more than one person at a time easily, and her flight sustainability isn’t very good, but she’s a very speedy little thing, and she relishes in taking sharp turns and dives that set her rider holding on to dear life, and laughing as she does so.

Her color is also noteworthy—a very, very bright green. Inannath’s face is accented by a white mask and her near-black muzzle. Her nostrils, talons, and wingsails have a strange pink cast to them.

Personality: Inannath is extremely… talkative. That’s one way to put it. If you were to phrase it less politely, you would say that she is quite incapable of ever shutting up. There’s just a constant stream of words coming from her mouth, a large part of it meaningless babble. There is one thing to say for it though- it’s grammatically correct meaningless babble. For a dragon, Inannath has an extraordinary vocabulary, and she always wants to learn new words and what they mean so that she can store them somewhere in the dark recesses of her mind. She will constantly pester her rider, or pester other dragons, and it’s hard to shake her off. Plus, she’s just so damn cute.

There is something endearingly flamboyant about Inannath. She seeks to be the center of attention, but not through very typical means. She would rather be the fool and have others laugh than be stuck up and unattainable. In fact, Inannath finds it hard to take just about everything seriously, often to her detriment. She just can’t see any situation as so serious that there can’t be some fun poked at it, with the exception of the death of another dragon. And even then, Inannath might crack a (wholly inappropriate) joke about how they were in life.

It’s safe to say that anything remotely sexual seems to go over Inannath’s head. She hardly understands her own feelings about Flight, and it tends to distress her after the fact. It would take a special male to get her take any sort of relationship seriously, and calm down. It distresses her, even as adult, when her rider engages in any sort of remotely sexual activity. The feelings confuse her, and she’ll creel and whine like a hatchling. She doesn’t like her rider’s attention to be diverted from her in that way. In her mind, she’s all her rider needs. These problems may eventually be able to be worked through, but it will take some time.

Other/Talents: She’s extremely fast and acrobatic – in both body and mouth. Inny will probably indefinitely hold the record for most words ever spoken by a dragon.

Emori

Inannath (Bonded) – I can't believe I've been allowed to know such joy and honor... not after dismissing your kind as pests. I am so sorry. I love you more than anything.

Lanakirene (Acquaintance) – You Impressed a green? Uh... That's nice, I guess. *coughgayboycough*

S'kagi (Friendly terms) – It's odd. I'm beginning to... well, look up to you. Ironic, isn't it?

Kella (Acquaintance) – You're a sweet girl. A little edgy, though. It felt like I had to convince you that I'm not a bad guy, even though we'd just met.

F'sey (Seen from a distance) – You are a scary, scary man. I'd rather not come face-to-face with you if I can help it.

Inannath

Emori (Bonded) – Don't feel bad, Beloved! We all make mistakes. You and I were made for each other, and together we will make things right.

H'dek (Acquaintance) – Sorry, I didn't pay too much attention to you. I was busy chatting up that lovely Bondyeth of yours!

Bondyeth (Clutchmate) – You are the most handsome bronze of them all! One day, your great wings will stretch across the sky! I am proud to be your sister.

S'kagi (Acquaintance) – Uh... I think I forgot to pay attention to you, too. The blame goes to those delicious wherries and... Coriath.

Coriath (Acquaintance) – Don't tell Bondyeth, but I think it's possible that some dragons may actually be grander than he is. Such as you, for example...

Inannath: A Deeper Look

User Image

DISCLAIMER: The purpose of this post is to analyze Inannath's appearance and character and make note of interesting observations. These observations are merely speculation, and I make no claims to them being what the shop staff intended, or of them being shop canon at all. This is just for fun.

User Image

Observation 1: Inannath's size could be a throwback trait.

I have received advisement from staff that Inannath is only going to grow to a length of somewhere between 15-20 feet, and according to this well-known size chart, which AtWoP’s dragon sizes seem to agree with, that means she’s going to be smaller than the white dragon Ruth.

According to the chart linked above, Inannath would be about the size of a normal green in the time of the "Oldtimers," whom Lessa brought forward 400 Turns in time to the Ninth Pass. They came from somewhere during the Eighth Interval/Second Long Interval.

Observation 2: Inannath’s color is a genetic mutation.

As her profile says, her intense shade of lime green is unheard of. She has areas (face, wingsails) where there is no color, or “all dragon colors,” à la Ruth -- or they may just be a very light green, so there's no definite analysis there. Her wingsails, claws, and nose all have pink tones, and how this happened in a green-blooded beast is a mystery I don’t know how to explain.

Observation 3: There is something not quite right with her.

Let’s face it—a green who is scared of mating flights, and doesn’t understand them at all? This is another case in which she appears to be similar to Ruth. Ruth, who was assumed to be male, had no interest in flights and did not understand why people thought he should. Inannath thinks of flights in much the same way, but as a female, she is compelled to rise to mate, even if her poor little mind can’t comprehend what’s going on.

Beyond the emotional problems that will arise from this, every flight Inannath makes could potentially result in injuries, as any normal male dragon would dwarf her. This is something I may explore in roleplay someday, though it may grieve me to do so. Her innocence toward such a major element of dragon life is a huge part of her character, and can’t be ignored.

Observation 4: Inannath does NOT have any special powaaaaaaarrrrrrz.

She does not have higher intelligence or a better memory than any other dragon, nor does she always know exactly when and where she is in time and space. I’m just adding this because I’ve made a lot of comparisons between Inny and Ruth, who DOES have those abilities.

The Flamingo
Flamingos or flamingoes[1] ( pronunciation (help•info)) are gregarious wading birds in the genus Phoenicopterus and family Phoenicopteridae. They are found in both the Western Hemisphere and in the Eastern Hemisphere, but are more numerous in the latter. There are four species in the Americas and two species in the Old World.

Scientists have discovered that flamingos are dying by the thousands along the Rift Valley lakes of Kenya and Tanzania. However, they are baffled about the reason. Possible causes include avian cholera, botulism, metal pollution, pesticides or poisonous bacteria, say researchers. Also, fears for the future of the Lesser Flamingo — Phoeniconaias minor — have also been raised by plans to pipe water from one of their key breeding areas, the shores of Lake Natron. The lakes are crucial to the birds' breeding success because the flamingos feed off the blooms of cyanobacteria that thrive there.

In Ancient Rome, flamingo tongues were considered a delicacy.[6] Also, Andean miners have killed flamingos for their fat, believed to be a cure for tuberculosis.

The Mesopotamian Goddess Inanna
INANNA: Goddess of Words, Language, Syntax and Meaning. It's all writing, innit? Having peeked at the Tablets of Destiny (ME), she is an expert at persuasive NAM-SHUBbery.

The daughter of ANU (or possibly his son ENLIL), she has much in common with ISHTAR. She married a shepherd type Deity called DUMUZI and built him a city to rule called Uruk. She also has a sister (possibly a twin) called ERESHKIGAL who was ruler of the Underworld.

One day INANNA said to her maid Ninshubar 'Look after things for a day or two — I'm going Down Under to see how sis is getting on — we haven't seen each other for yonks.'

Well, it was quite a lark. There were seven gates, and before she went through each one she had to do a bit of strip tease. This was a strip search with a difference. By the time she got to the throne room she was starkers.

Unabashed, as she was not the bashful type INANNA cried 'Wheee — ain't we got fun! Wow — give us a kiss, move over and lemmee have a go on that fab throne! The ministers and judges of the dead in attendance on ERESHKIGAL were appalled and gave INANNA the sort of looks that could kill. So INANNA dropped dead. They hung the corpse on a butcher's hook. ERESHKIGAL did not seem very concerned. Twinning had never been her thing.

Ninshubar was the one who became concerned when her mistress did not return. She prayed to the Gods but there was much shaking of heads and shuffling from above and only ENKI came to her aid. He created two zombie-like beings and gave them a lunch box containing immortality snacks. Having no hearts or anything to prove they were alive they went through the seven gates without let or hindrance.

In the Throne room they just took INANNA off the hook and restored her to life. The judges looks were of no use. Somewhat subdued by now INANNA asked her sister if she could leave now. 'Well, I can let you off the hook for the time being' said ERESHKIGAL,' but you must send me a replacement, or you will have to come back.'

Doing a reverse strip on the way out, INANNA shot back to Uruk a top speed to find DUMUZI having the time of his life and sleeping with GESHTINANNA the Goddess of Wine, another sister of hers. She packed both of them off the Underworld and they each have to do a six-month stint — Duz in summer, Gesh in winter.

You would think all this sort of thing would have slowed INANNA down, but not a bit. She was always a headstrong girl and having heard of the "ME", The Tablets of Destiny and Fundamental Powers of the Universe had been left for safekeeping with ENKI, She thought 'ME, ME, ME! They're going to be mine!'

She paid a visit to ENKI who now had a slight drink problem and by using flattery, her considerable sexual charm and getting him well and truly sozzled, she persuaded him to let her have a peek at one of the famous tablets. Then another one. And then could she hold one? By the end of the evening she not only held them, she loaded them onto her barge and pushed off rapidly for Uruk.

When ENKI woke up with a hangover and found he had given the tablets away, he was not a happy God. He sent his minions in pursuit, but she outwitted them all, proclaiming that ENKI had given them of His Own Free Will. His being drunk at the time was not her problem — he should join Alcoholics Anonymous. (This of course was not really feasible because everyone knew who ENKI was.) And that was that.

Oh God, Why Me?
Call it a blessing or a curse- either way, Emori and Inannath will be a pair for a long, long time. Both need to take steps towards self-reliance, and it's something that they can greatly help each other with. Plus, with Emori's love of fancy clothes and Inannath's bright colors, don't you think they look nice together?
