F'sey had not attended the Gather. In fact, the greenrider never attended the Gathers, not unless it was required of him, but for whatever reason, Ialluth had decided to take this one up with Hers. F'sey had to wonder why she even remembered, a dragon's memory didn't draw much past a few days ago. Of course, maybe if he stopped bringing it up. Yeah. Yeah, that was probably it.

Heaving a sigh, the wingrider marched into the dining hall, jaw set as he tried to annoy his dragon's cheerful quips and pleasant scolding. It was too early for this much joy, even from Ialluth. F'sey rubbed his face, standing stock still right in the middle of hall as he tried to figure out what he was doing. Oh. Right. Food! It was time for food. My, he was getting too old for this early morning nonsense.

Mine, you are not that old, Ialluth reminded him gently.

"Yeah? Tell me, who here is older than me?" the greenrider snapped, not particularly caring he was speaking out loud as well as in his head. "Honestly, I-"

Honestly, he should have been paying attention to where he was walking. Maybe he wouldn't have walked into another member of the Weyr.

Lanakirene was up early, not terribly so, but earlier than most of the Candidates. It wasn't that she prefered to eat alone; not by any means. If she got the chance to eat with her friends, that was wonderful. It was just that today, she had managed to worm out of the day's typical Candidate chores and get herself assigned to work with the Dragonhealers instead, and any time spent with them was good time. And if it meant waking up the extra half hour early so she could spend her entire day there, by Faranth, she'd do it!

Preoccupied with her own thoughts for the day, she was standing and turning to bring her bowl back when she collided with someone. Stumbling back and nearly tripping over herself in uncoordinated surprise, she bumped against the bench and landed heavily on it, bowl falling from her hands and clattering on the floor. "Oh, shards!" she said under her breath, looking up at the person she had run into. Her eyes widened and her mouth formed a small, startled "o". She had run into a dragonrider, not one she had ever met personally in her four years at the Weyr, but certainly one with a reputation.

F'sey, she was pretty sure his name was. F'sey, rider of...green, yeah, green...she didn't know off the top of her head. She just remembered hearing mention that, in general, he wasn't one to cross. And here she was, running into him...

"I'm sorry, Sir," she said quickly, picking up her bowl and standing again, in a hurry to make everything better and get herself out of the area as quickly as she could.

Breakfast was perfect, for once. Emori was able to eat at leisure without being interrupted by lecturing adults or perversely curious weyrbrats. This was her reward for getting up early, when almost everyone was too sleepy to notice her. She’d be all the more tired, but it was worth every minute of sleep she sacrificed. After she ate, she took her dishes to the kitchen and even washed them of own accord, rather than being told to. She was still smiling with satisfaction when she passed through the dining hall on her way outside to enjoy a few moments of fresh air before going to work.

She skirted a dragonrider as he walked right into someone else. She knew something of his reputation and normally would have zipped right past in a situation like this. It was the apology from the other person that made her pause. She recognized that voice… it was that boy from the Gather. The one that abruptly dismissed her when he heard that she didn’t expect to Impress. Not knowing exactly why, she went over and sat, her back to the pair, at a table where she could easily overhear any conversation. She might have stayed to defend the boy if necessary—he was friendly at first, after all—but it was probably more likely that she just she wanted to hear him get bawled out.

F'sey couldn't help the startled grunt when some boy barreled into, not paying attention to where they were going at all. "Sharding candidate," the greenrider hissed as he looked down to check his shirt. Great. Just bloody fantastic! The deadglow had gotten whatever was left in their bowl on him. So much for breakfast! He was going to have to go back to his weyr and clean up; Farnath forbid he stay here looking like he just lost a fight to a drudge. Speaking of.

The rider rounded on the muttering boy (who sounded suspiciously feminine), eyes narrowed as he set his jaw. "What in the name of Farnath were you doing!?" he hissed, not willing to make a huge scene. That would attract attention and F'sey did not want anymore attention than he already had. "You have eyes! Use them, deadglow!" he continued, absolutely seething. He was wearing breakfast. This was not his morning.

Annnnnnnd she wasn't going to get away easily. F'sey's obviously furious reaction made La balk slightly, and she regarded him round-eyed, jumping slightly when he finally turned his anger on her explicitly. The words stung a bit and she narrowed her eyes a minute amount, but then she caught herself and immediately smoothed her expression back to fear and what she hoped was deference. She really couldn't get away with backsassing a dragonrider, no matter that he had, in fact, run into her first.

"I was standing up, Sir," she said mildly. "And I apologize for not using my eyes in the proper direction...unfortunately, as I was facing away from you at the time, I was unprepared to be looking directly behind me as you approached." She said the words very slowly and quietly, though she couldn't help the sarcasm. She wasn't angry, per se, but she was a bit ruffled, and here was this man, treating her like she had beaten his dragon or spilt dye on him.

Deadglow. Pah.

Though the dragonrider’s reaction honestly unnerved her, the boy’s sarcastic return made Emori grin. She hid her smiling mouth behind her fist, leaning forward on her elbow. He was wittier than she’d taken him for when they first met. She was beginning to wish that they were on friendlier terms. He’d probably be fun to hang around, that one.

Now the rider, on the other hand… she hoped she’d never get on his bad side.

F'sey thought about cuffing the lad (girl?) breifly, but Ialluth chased that idea away before it could come to fruition. Even she didn't like that much attention. "You have a sharp tongue, kid." Yay for genderless labels! But the fury was gone. As much as he hated to admit it, the brat had a point. He knew it, Ialluth knew it and the gears were turning, but nothing witty was coming back.

Well, nothing except the declaration of his terrible luck.

The greenrider grit his teeth and jerked his jaw. "You have a sharp tongue and a bloody lot of nerve. You better watch your mouth if you don't want trouble." It wasn't really a threat; F'sey had no business tussling with a candidate. A dragonrider had no business fighting, period. It wasn't a warning, maybe just words of wisdom. It was left for the boy and his friend to determine.

When she realized the words that had left her mouth and remembered who it was she was speaking to, La watched F'sey with horrified interest, admittedly quite curious as to what was going to occur. Her eyes flicked to Emori very briefly, mostly to see if the girl was watching and gloating about this or not. Admittedly, La had not been particularly polite to her. But either way, the girl wasn't watching, and La's attention snapped quickly back to F'sey as soon as he spoke. The first comment made her tense slightly; it was early enough in the morning that a tongue-lashing would go almost unnoticed, and everyone would be able to pretend it had never happened later.

But that didn't come, and La tipped her head slightly. When F'sey repeated himself, she raised her eyebrows but inclined her head graciously. If he was going to let her off with just that comment, then she was going to accept it with dignity and deference. "Of course, sir," she said softly, looking at F'sey and wondering what would happen next.
