Name: Kadri
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Craft: Apprentice Harper
Rank: Candidate
Physical Description: Relatively short for his age, Kadri has a muscular build because of his lifestyle and a red-tanned hue of skin to match. His hair is dark brown, shoulder length, and possesses a slight wave to it because of the salty air near the ocean. He has green eyes. Over all, he, like his twin and much of their large family, have very earthy colourations.
Personality: Kadri is a determined fellow, bold and confident in what he persues… once he persues it. Sometimes he can be terribly stubborn about things, either because of uncertainty or because he’s just being stubborn. Preferring to act, he likes to keep busy and as such is easily tempted by any plots Aydin might have cooking. If it involves trouble, he’ll often resist at first but Aydin always manages to wheedle him into it – at which point, Kadri generally takes the lead and really runs with whatever plan they have.

As far as relating to other goes, he's open and curious about others. They're friendly twins and it is their curiosity that drives them to mischief. Alone, they focus on one another but in a group, they're comfortable being social without clinging to one another. However, Kadri gets jealous of the Aydin if he ends up entertaining too much attention.
History: Born and raised on a fruit farm beholden to Southern Weyr on the south continent, they were the middle children out of 6. Their older brother would inherit the farm while their two younger sisters would hopefully be married off to strengthen their ties to neighbours and Hold alike. As the middle children, and a fortunate surprise, the twins were left to be the dreamers of the family, able to choose their own paths. For most of their young lives and into their teens, they helped around the farm. From age nine on, they showed interest in the Harper craft and were taken in aand tutored by a nearby master where they learned quickly and seemed to enjoy the Craft.

However when they were 12, a misadventure drew them away from their Craft. While visiting the Hold during a harvest festival, the too snuck off to explore as they’d never been to the hold before. One thing led to another and they found themselves in the stables where a green firelizard had laid a clutch of eggs. In the right place, at the right time, they witnessed the hatching and ended up impressing the entire clutch of 3 –two greens and one blue. Two were bound to Kadri and one to Aydin.

When they were caught, they had no choice but to acknowledge their accidental theft. Anrgy and amused, the nobility of the Hold took them in and bid them work off their debt. Thus, from age 12 to age 14, they have been working in Southern Hold as general labour and as entertainment when called upon - for their duets and performances are excellent, given their age. Had they not messed up with the firelizards, they would have shown great promise in the Harper Craft. As it was, they would not be allowed to go to Harper Hall until two years of service to the Hold had passed.

Their 14th Turn was full of much change, they had been caring successfully for their firelizards for two years now and their term as servants had finally come to end. Each of the twins had picked up some courtly knowledge and liked to linger to learn of the Hold whenever they could. It was during one of these dawdling sessions that they witnessed a guest Harper perform and truly enjoyed the performance. Reminded of their informal training, the pair had spoken to the Harper and then, when their talent was discussed, taken to Harper Hall.

However, in their 16th year, they were found on a Search that visited the Hold nearest the Harper Hall, where they'd been performing for little ones, and taken back to Ista Weyr where the Hatching would occur.
Pets: Felicitas, Cene
Other/Talents: Talents include singing (Tenor, able to reach Baritone as well) and playing wind instruments, in particular the flute and pan-flute. Also knows how to read and compose music (prefers composing to singing alone). Various farm and servant related chore skills as well.

The only other note here is that both twins are bisexual (though they haven’t realized this yet); just that no troubles some with dragon assignment =3

Also, an RP set during the time they obtain their firelizards is in progress and will be posted shortly. =3

Name: Aydin
Age: 16
Sex: Male
Craft: Apprentice Harper
Rank: Candidate
Physical Description: Aydin is fairly short for his age, not having hit that last growth spurt yet that will give him his full height. He's got red tanned skin from being outside most of his life and slightly wavy dark brown hair. Aydin tends to wear his hair pulled back into a sort of messy ponytail, not really caring if locks of it escape to hang around his face - he just wants most of it out of the way. He can clean up nicely when he chooses to but most of the time he doesn't much care about his appearance. His eyes are just barely a lighter shade of green than his twin's but really no one can tell unless the two are standing in exactly the right sort of light.
Personality: Of the two of them, Aydin tends to be more the 'brains' of the operation - though he isn't really that much smarter than his twin. He just tends to always have more ideas circling around in the back of his head. And he's definitely not afraid to come up with harebrained schemes to suggest to his brother. He's also pretty good at convincing Kadri to go along with whatever he's cooked up - even if it's something likely to get the two of them into trouble if they're caught. Aydin is generally bright and friendly to just about everyone whenever he's around others or in a crowd, though he's really most comfortable with his twin. He's just good at not showing it and not seeming to cling to the other when they're in public. Of the two of them, though, he'd be the most likely to reach out and make other friends more easily.

Pets: Rynin
Other/Talents: Both twins will end up bi, though neither has really ... realized this yet. Also, musically - Aydin is more talented at singing by himself and at writing lyrics for songs. He loves to take whatever music Kadri might compose and put words to it. Aydin sings tenor - usually in the higher ranges, though he can go lower as well. He also plays the lyre and is interested in learning to play more stringer instruments.

RP Sample

Skie => Kadri
Manda => Aydin

The festival had being going to hours now, and Kadri was beginning to grow bored. There was, however, only so much dancing, singing, and general merry making one could do before it grew tedious. The high point had been the demonstration with his brother where they’d presented a relatively simple but original piece they’d spent many sevendays preparing for the event. It had gone over well and left him buoyed on good feelings.

Some had complimented him personally but most had turned their attention to the other, more skilled Harpers. He’d retired back to the small booth his family had set up, giving out the exotic, sweet fruits of their orchard. All his life, he’d run among the fruit trees, dug in the fertile soil and played in the shade they cast on the hottest of days. Theirs was a smaller array this year, as some of the trees had failed to produce as much fruit as they’d been hoping for but Kadri still did his best to inform and entice the festival attendees. Of course, there were barrels in storage, ready to be left with the Hold as their portion but Kadri wasn’t really concerned about that. It had been his twin’s and his older brother’s task to ensure the bushels arrived safe and sound.

Elsewhere, he watched his younger sisters, ten and twelve respectively, dance with abandon. They seemed to have endless energy and the dark curls that bounced about their shoulders only made the flash of happy smiles all the sweeter. They truly were adorable. Smiling, he leaned forward on the table top as he watched them, a few of the other girls, and scanned the few other booths their neighbours had set up.

Aydin had wandered off a little while back to look at some of the other booths, having been thinking about maybe buying a trinket or two for some of the other girls he knew from surrounding farms. But really, none of them interested him all -that- much - he just knew that it was something more or less expected of a teenage boy. You bought things for girls that were pretty, the world just worked like that. And he did have a little money from doing extra chores and the like. However, he didn't really want to spend any of it on silly things for girls either.

Finally, he circled back around to their own booth, just as Brycin showed up for his turn to watch said booth. Oh nice! That meant... maaaaybe he could get Kadri to go do something fun. Meaning dangerous. Well. Sort of.

“Hey, go ahead. I see you eyeing that pretty lady over there. Go say hello, I’ll watch the booth.” Brycin smiled as he relieved Kadri.

Kadri, for his part, simply nodded and turned to go… then stopped and made a face at Brycin, “I was not eyeing her. I was watching Caitlyn and Elyse dance.”

“Mmhmm.”

“Bah!” Waving a hand dismissively as he shook his head, Kadri spotted his twin and immediately gravitated over to the other. Things were always so much more fun when they were together… it wasn’t chores or playing dress-up like it was with Brycin or his sisters. Aydin and he had spent the last six years studying music together and it had become a passion they both shared. “Hey Aydin! Saw you looking at the other booths, find anything interesting?”

Aydin shrugged a bit. "Not really... there's one that has some neat-looking beaded things, but... don't really want to spend what little money I've got on those." He smiled faintly. Kadri understood... both of them thought the whole 'go find a girl and get married' thing was a bit stupid - to be honest. Not that they would -say- anything about it, of course. "I was thinking though ... that there could be -other- interesting places around here..."

"Like what? Dice in the corner with the others? Or watching the grass grow outside the Hold's grounds?" He frowned as he looked everything over. As per tradition, the Hold's lands immediately around the Lord's dwelling was covered completely in stone, and while it lent an industrious look to the whole thing, grey was not a very lively colour. Nor was it inviting. "Nothing around here anyway...." He glanced back at Aydin, smiling slightly.

"No-ooo..." Aydin replied slowly, glancing around to make sure no one was close enough to listen in. Like, oh say... their parents. That could be bad. "Why don't we go -explore-?" he suggested in a conspiratorial whisper. "No one's really paying that much attention ... and I bet there's some really cool places around here that we could find..."

"Mn... what if one of the Lord's staff or family finds us?" Kadri detested being caught, it only made things harder in the end. It was true nobody was really paying attention... but... he shook his head, "Sneaking around and stuff... you know what mom and dad say about that. 'You should know better young man! A Harper in training and you still act like an eight year old!'" Mimicing his mother's stance perfectly, he ended up chuckling at the end. "You really think they won't notice us?"

Aydin couldn't help laughing at the impression of their mother that his twin pulled, but he reached over and kind of punched the other in the shoulder. "Oh come -on-, no one's even looking at us right now. And for sure, no one's watching the edges of the crowd. They're all too busy watching the booths and the dancing..." He waggled eyebrows at the other, grinning. "I bet they have some really neat Runners in the stables...."

"Hey!" Frowning in disapproval Kadri shoved the other back and grinned, "Fiiiine, but I really wanted to look at the Hold itself too. We didn't see much during the Feast in there... so crowded." Making a face, he turned and slipped out of sight of the revelry, walking as though he had purpose towards the stables. With any luck, a casual glance would assume he belonged where he was going.

Aydin barely restrained himself from pumping a fist into the air in triumph at that and took off after his brother, quickly matching the other's pace. Looking like you belonged somewhere was a trick they'd learned very early on. "Awesome," he said in a low voice. "We can go inside after we check out the stables." Green eyes sparkled as they came up to the doors and slipped inside. Aydin had always loved watching the Runners, dreaming of maybe one day just getting to ride one for a -moment-. Sure, most kids wanted to ride a dragon but he knew very well that was never happening to him. A Runner was more likely. Just barely.

Kadri hadn't really ever gotten along with Runners, truth be told. They'd been around them before, when messengers had come looking and that sort of thing but they made him nervous. They were so much more spirited then the beasts he was used to working with. "You really like these things hn?" Standing off to the side, he peered into one of the stalls and blinked as one of the Runners stuck its head over the gate and snuffled at him.

"Yea! You don't think that they're cool...?" Aydin replied, glancing back at his twin as he walked up to one of the stalls and carefully held a hand up. The Runner inside snorted softly and sniffed at his palm then lipped fingers, probably looking for a treat. Really, it was a good thing these were well-mannered - as the twins hadn't had much experience with high strung or plain out mean beasts.

"Yeah... but they're big and they're a lot more active then our burden beasts. You could shout and hollar at ours but I think doing that to these would send them running. ... or attack us." Eyeing the hand Aydin held out, Kadri pulled it down and away from the Runner's mouth. They needed their fingers, thank you very much. "C'mon, I wonder how many are in here... they must be really really wealthy to have a lot of beasts." Tugging on his twin, Kadri started off down the row of stalls, noting that a throughway connected this hallway to another row of stables. "So big..."

Aydin pouted just a little at the other pulling his hand away but then was quickly distracted by the idea of seeing how many there were. "I don't think they all belong to this one Hold," he said quietly. "I heard someone talking about how people from other Holds sometimes ride them from place to place when it's safe outside..." And he had seen a few people he didn't recognize today - meaning they came here from other places.

"Maybe... I don't know. None of them are ours though, so it doesn't matter. Look! There's a baby one!" Leaning into one stall, he pointed a young Runner curled up and asleep in the corner. The mother stamped her hoof in and indignant manner and Kadri quickly backed off, "Uh... don't put your head in there, it might get eaten."

"They're Runners, not dragons, Kadri," Aydin replied with a hint of scorn in his tone. But most of it was good-natured teasing, as he peered carefully over that stall. "Ooh, it really is little... I wonder which one is the father.." he mused, turning in a slow circle to look at the nearby stallions. "That one maybe?" he said then, darting off toward a similar-looking Runner.

Kadri frowned at his brother and prodded him as he darted by, "And how would I know who sired who, Aydin?" Tilting his head, the apprentice wandered off after his brother when the crickle crack sound of something breaking caught his immediate attention.

Leaving Ayding to his Runners, Kadri moved off in the direction of the sound as he unconciously started stepping more lightly. What was that sound...? Was it warmer here?

Rounding a corner, he saw a pit of sand built into the stable's floor but from the looks of the equipment resting on the other side, it seemed that the area hadn't been used in months. And the lone stallion with wild eyes that stood in the stall nearest the sands made Kadri doubly nervous. He looked like an angry sort.

Again, that crackle came and he inched forward, poking his head around to find three oblong shapes wiggling in the hidden corner of the sandbox. Oh!

"Aydin! Come see! Come look!" Shouting, he waved his hands excitedly and jumped as the stallion thumped his hoof heavily against the gate.

Aydin blinked at his twin's yelling and darted back the other way. "SHHH! You'll .... oh... OH WOW!" And suddenly, his own caution was thrown to the winds as he saw what his twin had spotted - eggs to be precise. Three small eggs nestled into a little pit of sand. "Firelizard eggs!" he breathed, eyes widening.

"SHHHH!" Shouting in return, he jumped his twin and clamped a hand over the other's mouth, "Thought you said be quiet! ...Shhhhhh." The phrase grew quieter as he followed his own advice, rather embarassed. "Yes! They're hatching!" When he was sure Aydin wouldn't yell again, he let go and dropped to his knees, slowly crawling up to the newly emerging firelizards.

Behind them, the stallion was shuffling and snorting and kicking the walls of his stall, obiously agitated. Apparently whomever had quartered the horse here had done so very wisely.

Aydin nodded excitedly about that, trying frantically to remember anything and everything he knew or had ever heard about firelizards. "Where's the parents, I wonder..." he murmured, looking a bit distracted as he thought. As he moved closer, he accidentally bumped into the side of the Runner's stall - which caused an angry squeal of a whinny and another flurry of hooves. Yelping, Aydin jumped the other way, eyes wide.

In a flash, Kadri was up and by his twin, always having had the tendency to drop everything rush to his brother's aid even as a youngster. However, the flick of sand and noise sent the young firelizards into a choatic storm of sound and emotions as they flailed on the ground, terrified.

Spinning as his head was filled with strange images and odd emotions, Kadri stood dumbfounded as he stared at the newborn firelizards. So much noise! What should they do? He could hardly think.

Aydin made a little startled noise as the firelizards popped out of shells one by one and rolled around - squealing and chirping and bombarding both twins with a flurry of emotions and images. What ... "They... they're hungry," he suddenly blurted out, and took off running. "Try to shut them up a little!" he called over his shoulder as the headed out the back of the stable and made a beeline for the kitchens. He knew where that back door was too, thanks to a bit of sneaking around on his own before. But he hadn't wanted to visit the stables without his twin...

Darting inside, he glanced about frantically and then snatched up a bowl of raw meat and a nearby knife - heading back without even noticing if anyone saw him or not.

"Make them quiet!? How?" Calling after his brother, Kadri flailed a little as he found himself totally unsure. Great, his twin had abandoned him.... what on earth calmed terrified and hungry firelizards? What? Humming to himself so that he had something to focus his thoughts from in the cacophony, Kadri almost missed the subtle shift in sounds and emotions the little firelizards were broadcasting.

Blinking when he could hear himself actually think, the apprentice turned to watch the little lizzards, even reaching out to wiggle fingers at one. "You like song...?" He rarely sang by himself but.. if it kept them not so loud.... softly, he began singing, though he winced and yelped as one of the hatchlings tracked a finger then rushed forward to snap at it. The lone blue, it seemed, was particularly hungry. Sucking on his index finger, Kadri frowned at the blue and waited for the bleeding to stop before humming again, even if his body language was more aggressive now. "You bit me again and I'll bite you." He murmured.

A few seconds later, though, Aydin came running back and dropped that bowl, starting to frantically cut the meat up into smaller chunks so that the little things wouldn't choke on it. This much he knew because the farm had a watch-wher that they'd had to take turns feeding as part of their chores. And since they had to chop up some of the meat smaller for it, surely the smaller firelizards would need the same thing done for them. "Here!" he said, shoving the chopped-up bits toward his twin.

The screeching grew in volume as the scent of meat filled the air, once more pounding at Kadri's senses. Grabbing at the meat, and then some, he shoved the meat desperately at the dragons and watched as three came forward to gobble the meat hungrily. The noise immediately died down, though the other green continued to keen because her siblings crowded her out. "Jeeze... little pigs, hn? Give them some too, maybe they'll shut up as well." He pointed at the remaining two as he shuffled to the side.

"Getting there," Aydin sort of grunted, quickly chopping up some more meat and then offering it to the remaining greens, who crowded up against him with little eager chirping noises. "Can you ... ow, hey! Eat meat not my fingers! ... Can you get the rest chopped up while yours eat and we'll give them as much as they want... "

"Mmm." Nodding as he turned away and stepped back to but more meat, Kadri started when the three little ones he'd fed toddled desperately after him and crowded about his feet as he walked, "Hey! I'm going to step on you!" There was laughter in his voice, though, for they looked incredibly cute. Unable to fly yet, and still unsteady on their legs, they skittered and stumbled over the hot sand. "Just a second, just a second!" Grabbing the meat and the knife before the blue could stick his head in the pile, Kadri set about cutting more up. "They're really hungry..."

"Yea... I noticed," Aydin murmured, quickly reaching over to grab a bit more meat - trying to get an equal amount into 'his' firelizard. Of course, neither twin was even remotely thinking about keeping them at this point ... not realizing they were doing exactly the right things to Impress the little ones. They were just trying to keep them quiet, and happy - since hungry and loud hadn't been much fun. But then, their little bubble was burst by a little chirp and then a trill above them, Aydin's head snapping up to see a brown firelizard hovering and looking at them. "Oh crap!" he yelped, eyes widening as the other firelizard disappeared between again.

Kadri turned at the trill, expecting the sound to be that off one of the two Aydin had been taking care of, but the look on his twin's face was far from anything positive. "What? What is it? They bite you again?"

"No! C'mon, we're busted!" Aydin replied, moving to start to get up. But just then, green he'd been feeding sort of yawned and then flopped over into his lap with a satisfied chirp - radiating contentment at him. "Hey! Get off me! What..."

It was about that time that his own green started clawing at him as she tried to find a perch on his shoulder. Failing that, she curled up on his side as he laying on his side, facing Aydin. "What? Noooo I'm not a pillow! Shoo~" Fluttering fingers at her, he groaned when he found the other curled up at his feet. The green ended up sliding off his side and screeching in protest as she fought, much to Kadri's chagrin, to clamber back up onto him and settled even further up his body. Groaning, he glanced at his twin, not even having to speak. Now what? Neither wanted to hurt the poor things and neither had wanted to keep them... but upsetting the Hold's firelizards wasn't exactly something they wanted to do, and they didn't want to be caught nosing about either.

Aydin eyed his twin in return and shrugged helplessly 'his' green having crowded into his lap to curl up with legs. "We have to get out of here!" he whispered frantically. "There was a brown that showed up a second ago and then went away again... it's probably tattling on us right now."

"Fire lizards don't tattle, they report young man." The even tones of the Hold's Lord broke into their conversation as his boot tapped against the ground, "Care to explain yourselves? Your parents were worried... we sent scouts only to find you'd Impressed a clutch of firelizards." Arching a brow, the man shook his head in disapproval.

Jumping hard enough to knock the green from him and send the other two skittering about in a panic, Kadri gasped loudly, "Lord! I! I! Uhm...." Franctically groping for the right thing to say, he glanced at Aydin but couldn't bring himself to say it was his twin's fault... it really wasn't. "We didn't mean to! The Runner spooked! And they started screeching and... and... they won't leave us alone."

The older man's words hadn't seemed to sink in yet, however, and when the did, Kadri's eyes went wide, "Wait... what? Impressed? Like... bound? Like a dragon rider Impressed?" Dread lanced through him and guilt shadowed his face. They were in for it now....

Aydin hadn't even said anything yet, his own wide-eyed gaze flicking from his twin to the Lord and back again. What ... they'd ... ooooh crap... "I ... we didn't mean to!" he blurted out, belatedly trying to help his twin out. "They were just... they hatched and they were really hungry and I ... we ... we didn't think," he finally finished in a defeated sort of tone. That was another thing they'd been told over and over by their mother. 'You two don't think things through half the time, that's your problem!' - usually accompanied by a little swat with whatever she happened to have in her hands at the time.

And so the two twins had been marched out with their newly acquired firelizards and put through the greatest dressing down of their life – not by the lord, but by their worried and now embarrassed mother. It seemed the nobility wasn’t too upset about the whole thing, for it came to light that the clutch had belonged to a wild and absentminded Green. She’d apparently made use of the sheltered and guarded sands the Hold kept for its own firelizards.

However, the eggs had been watched and cared for by the stable staff and had in a sense belonged to the Hold so Kadri and Aydin were sentenced to working off the value of the eggs – about two years of labour in the service of the hold.

Reluctantly, the pair had agreed and arrangements for their move were immediately made.

Two sevendays later, they called Southern Hold their home and learned to balance their time all over again for the firelizards were sprightly and curious creatures, hardly leaving the twins alone for very long.

They wouldn't have been taken in as Apprentices by a local- they would be brought to Harper Hall. Also, can you take away like... at least two of the flitts? That's a lot, and we have a large number at the Weyr already.
