Often referred to as the polar opposite of her looks, Cordelia is a friendly, fun-loving girl who is not afraid to speak her mind. If she feels something is not right or she’s not happy with something, you will definitely hear about it. Because of her tendencies to being carefree and bubbly, people will often make more assumptions about this complex Raevan and think her never to hurt a fly, but they would yet again be wrong. Cordelia is a prideful being and her loyalties run deep. Say one wrong thing or make one bad move against her or her family and friends, then you will learn soon enough that she is anything but a pushover.
Currently, Cordelia is experiencing some teen angst and is more prone to acting out against established authority figures if properly provoked. More or less she's doing what she wants and damn the consequences.
Feeding Source: Cordelia primarily feeds on smoke by physically breathing it in where it is then absorbed by her rune and body. A second, yet still highly important source of energy for the basilisk is that of heat. Being cold blooded Delia doesn't produce her own heat and if permitted to stay in a cold state for too long, the girl would surely perish like any reptile. Both of these sources are directly linked to Cordelia's smoke abilities.
Abilities: Smoke Manipulation (Active/Progressive) - Heat is key in the effective use of this ability as it “excites” Cordelia’s molecules, allowing them to become more flexible which in turn allows her to become smoke and rearrange or manipulate her molecules however she pleases. While heat is needed for usage, the ability also expends heat as well. Thus once Cordelia starts cooling down, the harder it is to use this power as her molecules start slowing down, wanting to snap back to their original solid state. Once this has happened, Cordelia will need time to warm back up and also feed in order to regain her energy enough to use it again.
To detail in more depth how this ability works and is perceived, imagine Cordelia has only allowed her arm to become smoke and she has shaped it into that of a sword. From a distance, this ability may seem menacing, but it is actually only an illusion. Though she may be able to change the shape and size (of which depending on how big we are talking, she may need more smoke to feed on to achieve the desired affect), she is unable to change anything else about it, most importantly density. No matter how solid it may look, it is still only smoke and thus cannot do any real damage. In most cases, Cordelia uses this ability as a means of defense by evading powerful enemy attacks or as a way to escape completely. The only real offensive use she has with this ability is if she decided to suffocate someone with it.
Due to the nature of her essence, no matter how far she manages to spread herself out, she can never truly dissipate or become invisible as it were. Whether epic smoke screen, wispy tendrils, or powerful plumes, Cordelia will always be some form of smoke.
There are times when Cordelia may not be able to control this ability or may tap into it subconsciously. Examples are when her temperature is too far to one extreme or the other. If she’s too hot or has a high fever, Cordelia won’t be able to stay solid easily and if she’s too cold, Cordelia won’t be able to take her smoke form. Then there are times of great emotional stress in which parts of Cordelia, in most cases her hair, start to wisp and become smoke.
Currently, Cordelia can only manipulate herself and no other outside smoke source.
Parselmouth/Parseltongue (Passive) - The ability to understand and speak with snakes or serpents. When Cordelia speaks in this language, it's bold and italicized.
Toxin Resistance (Passive) - Being that of a basilisk, Cordelia is highly resistant to natural occurring poisons and toxins. That being said, rather large and/or concentrated quantities as well as things tampered by magic or things that are man-made will have more of an effect on her.
Likes: Warmth, the sun, varying smoke, incenses, the color green, music, video games and her violin.
Dislikes: Cold, water, human children, strong scents and flavors, silence and Poseidon, the Shade's pet foxfish.

Fun Facts: The name Cordelia means heart or even more ironically for our smoke Raevan, daughter of the sea or just of the sea. Ebony picked this name because she has always felt it was elegant yet powerful and is from her favorite story, King Lear.
The Basilisk Cordelia's soul is from was a gigantic snake with a mane of feathers around its neck and its tail ending in feathers as well.
Cordelia plays a black violin.
Cordelia can't sing very well as her smoky voice doesn't carry well.
As a newborn, Cordelia was unable to speak for a long time and thus this contributes much to her not liking complete silence as well as to her typical chattiness.
Ebony and Cordelia once switched bodies for a short time so Delia sort of knows what it's like to have legs.
Cordelia's secret to not destroying her bed with her sharp wings every night lies in her smoke abilities and is actually something her body does a bit passively since it's just uncomfortable to sleep with them as is.
Cordelia hates water because direct contact with it causes physical pain and weakens her. She is however able to "bathe" by using a damp cloth or sponge. Only time will tell if she'll actually be able to shower or lounge in a tub in the future.
Due to being cold-blooded, whenever Cordelia does blush it is very light in coloring no matter how embarrassed she might be.
Sometimes, not all the time, Cordelia is known to sleep with her eyes open.

Personality: Strong willed and strong headed, Ebony is not always the easiest person to like initially. She’s stoic, proud and even rude at times, yet the act of being human is not lost on her. Ebony just finds it difficult to express her true feelings without seeming weak. To make matters worse, her tendency to be somewhat deceptive and secretive makes it hard for anyone to get particularly close. Yet with plenty of patience and determination, some may find that there’s much more to Ebony than just a tough exterior.
History: Ebony grew up in a shabby orphanage in London, England having been totally abandoned on their doorstep as a baby. Life there was often harsh and forced many of the children to become harsh themselves, taking what they needed to survive or what they thought they were owed. Ebony was no exception, taking up pick pocketing as a means for her own survival. She remained at the orphanage until the age of six when a chance encounter with Adrian Shade ended with the man taking interest in the young girl. Throughout the years, Ebony’s adoptive father took great care in honing her mind and body by tutoring and training her himself. Although often at odds with him, Ebony grew to love and respect the man deeply as he her. With his presumed (*see next post for detailed explanation on this) death, Ebony was utterly devastated and in turn sold the main home in England to escape to their vacation home on the Isle de Gambino in Gaia. Over time Ebony has gradually filled the void Adrian left in this world by taking up the job he left behind, her way of somehow keeping the man alive even in death.
Likes: Reading, peppermint tea, meditation, martial arts, plants, the beach, the color purple and the family's pet foxfish Poseidon.
Dislikes: Messy clutters, insects, things that are fake (like jewelry or people) and being seen or thought of as weak.
Fun Facts: Ebony plays the piano and can sing fairly well. Her dancing is not too shabby either.
Ebony's body contains nanobots that enhance her physical traits. Although no where near Wonder Woman status, it does allow her augmented strength, speed and agility. Another nifty thing is that they allow her to change her hair color on a whim. Thus even though not her original hair color, the purple is as close to natural as could be thought.
Ebony and Cordelia share a remarkable physical likeness for not being blood related. Some speculate that this may have been due to Ebony's soul bottle never truly leaving her side ever. Owners are warned of the dangers of too much exposure to the soul bottle, but Ebony obviously ignored it. So there is a theory that Cordelia holds a tiny piece of Ebony's soul within her, accounting for the physical similarities.

Personality: Refined and charismatic, Adrian’s style and demeanor are seen as something out of a classic novel. He will dare to sweep any pretty lady off her feet at a moment’s notice with his silver tongue, yet would also put his own life on the line to save her should she require it. And though some may find him snobbish or stuffy, the man is usually very laid back and easy going. Something he’s come to learn with age and hopes to bestow upon his daughter.
History: The brunt of Adrian’s history, most specifically anything prior to Ebony’s entrance into his life, is shrouded in mystery. This is because the man simply wishes not to discuss or remember anything from his childhood. We can only assume it wasn’t a pleasant one. As for recently, everyone had assumed the elder Shade to be dead. A horrible plan devised to protect his only daughter, Ebony, from a lethal crime syndicate’s possible retaliation.
Adrian had snuck into the unnamed syndicate’s compound in order to steal some valuable technology. What he found was a facility housing human/animal gene splicing experimentation. The images of horrifically altered people caged and forced to tear one another limb from limb still haunt him to this day. Disgusted by this total disrespect of human and animal life, Adrian took it upon himself to out the syndicate’s secret experiments to the government. Yet by doing so he knew he’d also have to give himself up as well.
After speaking with government officials, the man was advised to fake his death in order to keep his daughter safe in case his identity had been compromised. Yet this plan was also part of Adrian’s punishment for his years of thieving as the Silver Fox. The other half was to work with them as a covert spy. Only once the syndicate had been taken down could he return to a civilian life, and possibly his daughter.
Likes: Women, tinkering/experimenting with technology, reading, listening to classical music, and martial arts.
Dislikes: Overly rude/vulgar/lazy people, talking about his childhood and mayonnaise. Yeah that’s right mayonnaise. What? Were you expecting something epic?

By day the Silver Fox is a sleek, modern looking café where people can meet up, have a cup of coffee or even just hang out to do work or play games. Also during the day, Adrian offers several computer services ranging from simple repairs to custom builds. These types of inquiries can be taken at the bar in the far back of the café, along with any beverage (sorry alcohol is prohibited during daytime hours) and snack orders you may have. Nearby a set of stairs will take you to the café’s roof top terrace where you may relax while taking in a breath taking view of the Isle.
The Silver Fox after dark harbors a completely different vibe as it turns into a hip night club, complete with molecular mixology. Just ask Adrian about his “Soul Bottle” drink, an ode to Lab 305 itself.
One will note that every table, including the back bar counter, is an interactive computer screen. From here, guests can access the café’s menu and make orders without traveling all the way to the bar area. Music requests, games and much more can also be done through the use of these surface terminals.
Don’t like what’s playing on the surround sound? Wanna hold your own personal, silent rave? The Shades have custom-made fox ear shaped headphones available for rental. Please make your inquiries via the bar or surface terminals.
Nigel Pic (Coming Soon)
Nigel is a holographic AI host created by Adrian to help regulate, facilitate and secure the Silver Fox and its occupants. On entering the building, he will be the one to greet any and all guests as well as taking orders or providing any assistance to any who may need it. Just think of him as the eyes, ears and face of the Silver Fox. Since he’s a digital entity, don’t be surprise if you’re talking with him and yet see another copy of him across the room talking to someone else. He was made to multi-task, in a most literal sense. Personality wise, Nigel is calm and collected with an air of sophistication.

Glitch is a holographic AI DJ created by Cordelia and is in charge of keeping the night crowd entertained. As her name implies, she is far from the perfect specimen that her brother Nigel is. Though most of her kinks have been worked out, don’t be surprised if she “glitches” briefly from time to time. After all, Delia’s still a bit new to all this tech stuff, so for her to even be able to create a somewhat workable AI is an amazing feat all in its own. Personality wise, Glitch is bubbly and fun-loving, but can come off a bit childish at times.

Ebony has done a lot of research on the subject of her Raevan's soul, the Basilisk. It wasn't easy to dig up and the information is somewhat varying from source to source. Though from her run in with the beast, she has been able to cross out a few of the things from the stories (like it being a creature more snake-like rather than bird), yet some things she is still unsure about at this time. Here's a just a bit of the information Ebony has been able to collect.
The Story of Dragons and Other Monsters by Thomas G. Aylesworth The basilisk (BA-sill-isk), or the cockatrice (c**k-ah-trees), is one of the strangest of all monsters that lived on land. It is also one of the most difficult to describe.
In the days of ancient Greece, it was thought to be merely a snake with a bright spot in the shape of a crown on its head. People in the Middle Ages imagined it as a four-legged rooster with a crown. It had yellow feathers, wings, and a snake’s tail. This tail had either a hook or a rooster’s head at the end. Centuries later, the basilisk was described as having eight legs and scales instead of feathers.
Many people thought that the basilisk carried a jewel in its head. It had red eyes, a pointed face, and a rooster’s crest. The French version of the monster, called the vouivré (vooeev-RAY), was a reptile a yard or two long with only one eye, which was made out of a carbuncle, a precious stone. If you could steal its eye, you would be rich. But if you were caught stealing it, you would go insane.
The basilisk was supposed to be born in a most unusual way. First, a seven-year-old rooster had to lay an egg during the hottest weeks of the year. How a rooster was able to lay an egg is not explained. This egg would be round like a ball, and was pale yellow or blue in color, although it could be speckled. It had a leathery covering instead of a shell.
Then the egg had to be hatched by a toad. At this point the basilisk was ready to do its dirty work.
What could it do? First of all, it could kill a human just by looking at him or her. Its glance was so powerful that it could even kill itself if it looked at its reflection in a mirror.
Just hearing its hiss could cause hydrophobia (rabies) in humans. You could die if you even smelled one. It could kill shrubs by touching them and smash stones by breathing on them. Where a basilisk lived, the air was so poisonous that birds could not fly through it without dying. Fruit would rot for miles around the monster. It was such a horrible beast that there were people who thought that the devil came to the Garden of Eden in the shape of a basilisk.
There were ways of getting rid of it, however. You could keep a pet weasel, since that was the only animal that could kill the monster. But the weasel would die too, after the fight.
Or, you could keep a pet rooster. If the basilisk heard a rooster crow, the monster would go into convulsions and die. Some people believed that if a human saw a basilisk before the basilisk saw the human, the monster would die.
If, in some way or other, a human got possession of a basilisk’s body, it could come in handy. All that the human had to do was to burn the body. The ashes would keep away evil animals.
Fabulous Monsters by Marcia Williams During the night of Sirius the Dog Star, on an Atlantic island, an egg was laid by an ancient rooster. The rooster buried the egg deep within a dung heap.
In time, the egg hatched and out came a BASILISK—a small, sinister monster who could kill with a glance. Just a whiff of its breath could burn up birds in flight. Even the sound of its hissing could prove deadly.
Only the weasel was immune to the Basilisk’s menace, and only the plant rue did not wither in its path. With so few enemies, it did not take many Dog Star nights for the small island to become overrun by Basilisks.
Animals hid beneath the ground. Not a soul dared venture outside, not even to collect food. Hunger and fear gnawed at their bellies, but neither man nor beast could think of a way to destroy the Basilisks.
One brave knight did try. He set forth with his ears and nose blocked and his eyes hidden from the “death glance” by bunches of rue. He succeeded in spearing a Basilisk, but so potent was its venom that the poison shot up through the knight’s spear, killing both him and his horse.
The islanders had resigned themselves to death, until Patrick was washed up on the island’s shore. Patrick had escaped from vicious pirates by diving overboard, little realizing that he was approaching a far greater danger: the lethal Basilisk!
Luckily, brave Marie spied Patrick through a crack in her curtains. Marie dragged Patrick inside before the Basilisks could kill him. To show his gratitude, Patrick decided to destroy the Basilisks. First, he asked Marie to sew him into a leather suit.
He hung sparkling mirrors all over this suit, so that all who came near could see their reflection. Then, after blocking his nose and hiding his eyes behind rue, Patrick left the safety of the house.
The island was a wasteland—even the rivers ran without life. Not a creature stirred, not even a weasel. Patrick shivered with fear, and the mirrors tinkled.
Alerted by the sound, Basilisks charged from every direction. The Basilisks drooled in anticipation of a kill, but Patrick stood firm. As the first Basilisk pounced with open jaws, it caught sight of itself in the mirrors!
It dropped to the ground, dead cold! Soon Patrick was surrounded by dead Basilisks. One look in Patrick’s mirrors and their own “death glance” killed them. Patrick had found a way of destroying the venomous monsters with cunning as his only weapon.
As Patrick roamed the island in his glittering suit, weasels began to come out of the ground to help him. The weasels hunted down the Basilisks and drove them to look at themselves in Patrick’s mirrors, until every Basilisk on the island had been killed by its own “death glance.”
Free to roam their island again, the people prepared a feast of thanks to Patrick, their savior. Patrick decided he would not risk being captured by pirates again but would stay on the island and protect his new friends. They were delighted, for they never knew when an egg might be laid by an ancient rooster on a Dog Star night!

Obviously opposite to what Ebs encountered, but then again I take that image as being a cockatrice rather than a basilisk. To me basilisk would = snake with possible bird characteristics. |
