Why?
Why has no one posted here yet!? Well I'll take the honor of starting it off.
Yeah...How about Twilight? Raise your hand if you've actually read the book all the way through and enjoyed it. Look up right now. If your hand is in the air, you need to kill yourself. If you have yet to read the book, let me help you avoid it.
Twilight is essentially every other teenage drama-filled romance novel with vampires. Now, you may be thinking "Ooh! What a shocking twist on the Teenage Romance Genre". Well, you're wrong.
You see, this concept has already been done before in a book called Blood and Chocolate. In Blood and Chocolate however, the point of view is that of Vivian, a were-wolf who falls in love with a bohemian human after her mate is killed. She must keep her urge to reveal her secret to him under control, while keeping him secret from the rest of her pack.
The author who wrote Blood and Chocolate also wrote the book Silver Kiss. Silver Kiss is a book about a human girl who falls in love with...*gasp* A VAMPIRE!!! Except in THIS book, the vampires can't go out into daylight just like ALL OTHER VAMPIRES IN THE HISTORY OF VAMPIRES!!! And they don't sparkle in the sunlight like craptacular pieces of literature!!!
If you love vampires and are looking for a good teenage romance, pick up the ORIGINAL vampire romance Silver Kiss. It's better written anyway.
Don't jump on the twilight bandwagon with all the illiterates!!!
Don't give this book praise that it doesn't deserve!!! scream scream scream

I've got two words for you...the second word is "You". Oh, the first is "Thank" by the by. I'm sick of these pseudo-goth-punk-wannabe emo/scene prepubescent trouser-stains obsessing over a book they never read. If they really need to watch a "New Romeo and Juliet" movie with vampires...UNDERWORLD! Even the writers called it that. Blood and Chocolate, I liked it. It's been a while, but it was an interesting read.
If you read it, liked it, and then heard of the movie...then you have my respect. Thank you for reading. You may live.
If you heard of the movie, read it, liked/hated it, saw the movie, liked/disliked it...See above. At least you read something before seeing the adaptation.
If you heard of the movie, said "OMFG HE IS SO HAWT" bought the shirts, buttons, arm warmers, notebooks, pillows, posters and other Hot Topic merch...then do as Khleo suggested.
Off topic- When did Hot Topic suck so badly? This seemed to happen the moment Emo became popular...oh well, it's owned by the GAP, so what can you expect, eh? friggin emo kids, ruining everything great about my childhood...smurfs, MMPR, snorks, goonies, alf....everything...NEW TSHIRTS SHOULD LOOK NEW DAMMIT!!!

I read the series, it was okay I guess. Not the best book I've ever read but pretty decent none the less. THEN the movie is heard of. Thousands of fangirls go insane because they thing Edward is the "hawttest thing eva". *Pukes* I actually went to go see the movie the day it came out, I wanted to see how the movie would corrolate with the book. I knew it wouldn't be as good but anyways, when it first started and when Edward came on the screen a chorus of fangirlish squees erupted from all sides of the theater. Simply maddening. I've also noticed that most of the people who said the movie was amazing or that they hated it, haven't even heard of the series until the movie came out. Does that make any sense at all?? Didn't think so.
Places like Hot Topic, ect. are only selling merchandise of the Twilight baseness because they know how crazy the girls are and know that these mindless zombies are going to run to the nearest store and buy a shirt or a button. Half of these people haven't even read the series, as Atsu stated. Since I have read the books and seen the movie, it's not really a crime for that group of people to go and buy a shirt.
This is simply a fad, just like Harry Potter was a few years ago. Soon this will all blow over and then the fangirls shall find some other movie to go insane over. XD

I don't know what happened to Hot Topic. I slowly watched the Hot Topic at my mall go from the huge gothic gate entrance that scared the kids away to the inviting emo tunnel for the posing masses. If it weren't for the fact that it's the only place I can get decent CD's, I wouldn't go there to shop. neutral

Please don't hate on the people who only hear about books because they're the basis of movies and TV series. I've started reading tons of books lately (okay, listening to audio books) because I noticed that beautiful little tag "Based on the book by..." Because of that line, I devoured ten books in twenty days! I just couldn't help myself! I didn't watch Twilight first before reading the books. The books are sitting in the waiting list. Once I've read them, I will watch the movie.
Also, I like the idea of different breeds or races of vampires. Why do they all have to be the same? I wrote a story a few years ago about vampires that got their strength not from blood, but from sunlight. They lived like plants basically. Without sunlight, they would die. I wrote of a breed that aged like humans, others that lived for two hundred years, then died. It's more fun than just having this scary monster that can't come out in the day. Speaking of, what do you feel about those vamps that can't stand in direct sunlight but can come out in shade?
Final note! Death to all simpering fangirls!

Side note: I used to buy Sailor Moon manga back before HotTopic started sucking. I love the way those books still smell! All the books in HotTopic had this wonderful sweet musk smell to them. *Sniffs manga; ODs and dies*

Agreed but I tend to prefer my vampires to burn on impact with the sun than SPARKLE like some freaky blood-sucking daffodil. And on the Hot Topic note, I still like Hot Topic but lately the only things i've gone there for were either Band T-shirts or CDs (sadly it's the only place I can find Danzig or Dir En Grey CDs crying )

Why hadn't I come across this topic sooner! D:
I'm one of those girls who hasn't read the book, has no desire to read the book, and prefers the role of Diggory to the role of Cullen for that actor, whatever his name is. Either way, he's not hot. Nerds are hotter. xD
But really, I started hearing about this book that screwed up one of my favorite words ever back during the summer of '08, before the fantards got to it. Back then, I thought, "I'll try it; might be okay." Now... HELL NO. Pardon me there. And one of my favorite characters from another book series (and one infinitely better because the charries are true creatures of the night: Owls) was named Twilight! I can never look at his name the same way again. T-T
From what I've heard, Meyer's writing style sucks. She's got a horrible case of self-insertion with this blasphemous excuse for a Book of the Year. The characters are cliche, the plot is even more so, Sparklefag, well... Sparkles! Honestly, someone took a Mary-Sue litmus test using Dimwit Cygnet (apologies to anyone who likes real swans). Guess what she scored? Too high = Mary Sue, self-inserted character. Same for Abusive Sparklefag, minus the self-insertion part.
Stephen King even agrees with the anti-Twifag masses. His words, and I quote: "Both Rowling and Meyer, they're speaking directly to young people. The real difference is that Jo Rowling is a terrific writer and Stephenie Meyer can't write worth a darn. She's not very good." Truer words were never spoken, and from the contemporary king of horror, no less! (no pun intended on his name.) Twitard fans rose up in arms against King, but what can you expect from a bunch of brainwashed, fairy-tale-starved, sickeningly romantic hormonal girls? No offense to teenaged girls in general, because I've been there, too. ^^;
Really, though, after watching and reading a bunch of King vs. Meyer stuff, I hold King in a higher respect than I used to, up there with my literary gods of Tolkien, Asimov, Poe, and other classic writers. I hate Twitards even more because of how immaturely they reacted to his opinion of Meyer. They really are quite idiotic, the rabid ones are. I personally don't care if someone likes the series, just don't shove it down my throat or I'll shove it up your a**; that's my mindset towards little rabid Twitards. A couple of videos I watched on Youtube, made by MelinaPendulum, are the best reactions I think I've seen tonight. She criticized the hell out of both Twitards and Meyer herself for being immature, juvenile children about all the drama that's arisen since the Twi-leak incident.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I really, really cannot respect Meyer after what I've heard from Melina's videos. Reiterating my words, I haven't read the books, and I don't plan to. I don't want to have anything to do with a whiny-a** woman who leaked her own material and then tries to pull the "I'll never finish the last book because it was leaked!" BS. Honestly. Reminiscent of an 8-year-old brat much?
I'm sure the story is good, but it's said that even the best of intentions can be screwed up by poor execution of action. A good book is made of both good story and good writing. Isaac Asimov learned that one and wrote it down in an autobiography of his; Meyer needs to take a leaf out of Mr. Asimov's book and not only know how to tell a story, but learn how to write well, too.
Sorry about the novella here, but I guess I just needed a safe place to say it all without having to try and take on the diehard Twifags. ^^;
(Had to come back in and edit this. ^^;; A girl was standing behind me when I first came back, and whether she liked this damn series I don't know, but I wasn't willing to risk an argument in the middle of the dining hall lobby. And pardon some of my language; I normally don't swear, but honestly, this is something I feel pretty strongly about.)

Eizoryu But really, I started hearing about this book that screwed up one of my favorite words ever back during the summer, before the fantards got to it. If you're talking about the word twilight, I have to agree with a fiery passion. I used to LOVE that word and I even used it as the name for one of the corporations in my comic.. well, till the damn book came out I instantly changed it. You can't even talk about the word twilight without having it associated with the damn book/move. GDAMN look it up people the word TWILIGHT does NOT mean SPARKLE VAMPIRES!
