When I started back in high school, I actually wanted to be a Seiyuu. Studied the culture, what it took and the kind of training needed to do it. However, with the passing of time my interests drifted away from those kinds of things and now they lean more towards the academically and culturally inclined aspects of Japanese culture. I personally hope I can acquire a job more interesting than that of a simple English teacher or Salaryman, but we'll see what happens

I've recently just started liking Japan more and more but i've had an interest in it ever since i was a small child... I think the way they dress in kimonos and yukatas (or whatever they are) is so adorable. Also another reason is the animation and the way japanese people speak.... I just took an interest, thats all

It was the only language at the community college that I'd never taken before so I decided to take it and really loved it. Its also the only language I'd really taken beyond very basic, and I really wanted to get better in a language other than English, so I've been continuing it at University. 3nodding

My grandparents kinda got the ball rolling, but my mom really got me into it since she was born and raised in Hokkaido. She also worked in a fish market, and all Japanese speakers think she sounds funny because she's a foreigner with an fisherman's accent. xd Of course, we never have fish in our house because "it's just not fresh enough".
I really want to get a degree in Japanese and become a translator, but right now for college I'm probably going to get a degree in something else and then transfer to someplace that has a Japanese major.

Kind of when my dad told me I was part Japanese. And how I wouldn't be alive if the Attack at Pearl Harbour didn't happen.

I liked a girl from Japan so I tried hard in japanese class and found I liked the language a lot. Anime helped a bit so did Japanese Music and Fashion。

Honestly? I have no idea. Though I think I started reading manga because of my interest in Japan. I guess I always had a liking for it that I can't really explain and it intensified when I chose Japan for a cultural art project and had to research into its art and culture. I found a lot of things that really interested me (and basically fell in love with ukiyo-e, lol).

As ridiculous as it is, America's Next Top Model got me interested in Japan. During the Cycle 3 competition, the wanna-be models took a trip to Tokyo; I saw all of the places they visited and the ceremonies they participated in, which fascinated me. The following year, I enrolled in a Japanese class at my high school.

From manga and anime, they introduce a bit of the japanese culture and custom into it, so I got really interested. I also love the technology they produce. Basically, it all started from japanese media :anime, manga, music, dramas .etc. Omg. If I didn't move into Scarborough, Ontario (part of Toronto) which is more like an asian community, I wouldn't have found out about all this stuff. I used to be so angered by the fact that I moved away from the place where all my friends were, and where I lived for basically 11 years...Now, I am SO GLAD I DID MOVE. blaugh

i have been interested in asian cultures since as far back as i remember. just seeing bits of it around and so on. . .i thought it was pretty and interesting. in fifth grade my school had a multi cultural day where highschool students of other countries who were currently transfer students at a highschool about a half hour away came to talk about their contries. lucky me, the japanese student was came to my fifth grade class. her name was Ai, she was really pretty. of course i had to eventually go into other rooms and meet other people too but i was mostly interested in japanese (obviously) Ai wore a Kimono and prepared real green tea. it was kool ^^
the other asian country represented at multi cultural day was korean. the computer teacher was half korean so she talked about korea. i didn't learn much except that korean kimchi is good ^^
