Here is a topic for The Host, written by Stephenie Meyer.

Has anybody else read it? If you haven't, here's a summery, taken directly from Meyer's website ::
Our world has been invaded by an unseen enemy. Humans become hosts for these invaders, their minds taken over while their bodies remain intact and continue their lives apparently unchanged. Most of humanity has succumbed.
When Melanie, one of the few remaining "wild" humans is captured, she is certain it is her end. Wanderer, the invading "soul" who has been given Melanie's body, was warned about the challenges of living inside a human: the overwhelming emotions, the glut of senses, the too vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn't expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
Wanderer probes Melanie's thoughts, hoping to discover the whereabouts of the remaining human resistance. Instead, Melanie fills Wanderer's mind with visions of the man Melanie loves—Jared, a human who still lives in hiding. Unable to separate herself from her body's desires, Wanderer begins to yearn for a man she has been tasked with exposing. When outside forces make Wanderer and Melanie unwilling allies, they set off on a dangerous and uncertain search for the man they both love.
For those who have read it, what are your thoughts?
For me, I loved it... but there were some things that bothered me about it. For me, it seemed as though Stephenie was kind of morphing her character Bella from Twilight with the main character, Wanderer(Wanda). That kind of turned me off to that character. Though they didn't have the exact same personally... I just felt like I was reading about Bella turned alien. Other than that, I thought it had a great plot line. I would have liked it if it had ended differently, but hey... the way it ended leaves opening for a sequel.. and that I don't mind. ^^
Over all, I'd rate the book on a scale of 1 to 10 :: 8. It was very good and worth reading. The suspense keeps you wanting more, and that's what I like about a book. If it can keep me on my feet, then it's got good potential.

I haven't read this yet, but I intend to at some point. I'm not the biggest fan of Twilight, but I heard this was much better written. The premise certainly sounds more interesting/original than Twilight. It kind of sounds Garth Nix-ish.

Princess_Maisy I have always wanted to know what was so speical about the Twilight series. It's like every girl in my year was in a trance about it this year. I don't obsess as much as my friends do over the series. I've read every book, I own every book.. but I don't feel the need to run around as they do. I'm thrilled they read as much as I do... but they don't enjoy some of the stuff I read. -sigh-
I've heard some news from Meyers recently saying how she would like to make a sequel to The Host. I'm not too excited, though I must say it would be delightful to continue from where she cut the story off at.

I also have no interest in Twilight, but this was supposed to be written for adults, so I'm hoping. "Garth Nix-ish" would be cool, since I've been enjoying his "Keys to the Kingdom" series.

I was disappointed in the book. I thought there would be more action in it, like the group would be discovered and they would either have to fight or run. They were just found by what's-her-name, but she was easily overpowered. It just seemed too easy how everything happened. There was nothing too climatic about the book. I loved the idea of the Host, but I think more could have been done with it.

I liked it. The Twilight series was a flop, but this was a much better book. Although, there could have been more action and romance. She didn't do too well with the romance at all. I felt like it was really stupid the way Mel's body reacted whenever Jared kissed her. Nobody would act that irrational in another's body. rolleyes It really does need a sequel, but I'm hoping that Meyer figures out that people like action more than poorly written romance. But all in all, I think she did a much better job with this book (hoping she doesn't ruin a sequel).

Maybe that's why the action is better.

Read it and loved it. For being one of her first books, (since she's written 5 now?) it was great. Much better than Twilight, I agree because it is written towards an older audience. ---------------- Now playing: Paramore - Decoy (Live)via FoxyTunes

I was honestly confused with that book. I read the first couple chapters, and I was just like "Who's point of view is this in?" "Do the humans know about the little alien things?" "What's all happening?" I tried to understand it, but it didn't really work...Also, it made me feel like a slow reader seeing as the pages are longer. I hate when it takes me forever to read 2 pages, it makes me feel like this is too mature for me. But I think I'll read it when I'm done with the other books I'm reading. Maybe by then I'll be able to understand it.

I really loved The Host. That said, it doesn't have a whole lot of re-reading appeal to me. I don't really identify with any of the characters, so I really adored the idea of alien-invasion-plot-written-by-the alien, but that was it.
I understand what you mean about the Bella/Wanderer similarities, but I think it may be more like Bella/Wanderer are just like Stephanie Meyer. I think she writes her personality into them, that's why they seem similar.

I didn't read Twilight so I have nothing to compare it to, but overall I thought it was a really good book. I like the concept and the details about the aliens, and I also liked the ending, plus the concept's original.
