The Worker's Rest

For the hard-working, blue-collar workers of Frostchild, nothing is more important than a good home to head to after a long day. Unfortunately, "good home" apparently translates to "subsidized housing." While the houses aren't in absolute top shape, the pre-fabricated homes make decent lodging. Several round
holes in the streets with metal covers seem to lead to some sort of sewer access.

Gambion walked onto the scene, out of the squalor of the Hovels and into the relative nicety that was Worker's Rest. Of course, this place was far from good looking and a wonderful place to live, but it was certainly a step up from where they had been.

Gambion looked around as he walked through the street. He didn't see any signs of people around, but then you wouldn't if they were all hiding in their houses.

Time to do something stupid.

"Hello?" He called out, projecting loud enough to be heard inside any nearby houses. As he called out he loosened the shotgun in its holster. A call could mean people coming out, and people could be friendly... or not.

"Man, are we still in the slums?" Aiolos looked around. The houses were a little improvement from the homeless, but it was still depressing. Also depressing: No one was here. The whole place was deserted. It was one thing to have homeless, it was another to have homes with no one living in them.

He sheathed his knife and put both hands on his tin flute. Gambion called out, and the mouthpiece was covered by Aiolos' mouth. He let out a stray note and let it echo through the air.

"Seems like." Lah glanced around, quirking a brow and wandering off a few feet from the group, staring up at one of the houses. "No-one says hello back, I think I'll go do some door-to-door."

Soon after Mozz arrived on the scene walking at a moderate pace. The entire city seemed creepy. Where there should be the hustle and bustle of community there was a stark silence.

“Not a bad idea,” Mozz said has he tried to see if any buildings had distinctive marks that could signify an attack “maybe some of these buildings have clues. Be careful though we still have no idea what happened here.”

Gambion walked over to one of the houses and looked at the door. He banged on it hard with a fist a couple of times and called out, "Hey! We're looking for anyone who's still around. We want to know what's going on here." With that, he tried the knob. If the door was locked, it would get a boot to the front in an attempt to bust it open.

If that didn't work it would be time to pull out a bit more firepower, but hopefully he could bust it open without much trouble.

Then again, someone could be home to answer the door, that would be nice.

"Alright then..."

Lah sidled up towards one of the houses opposite Gambion and knocked on the door. "Helloooo?"

A pause. "Selling cookies?"

Aiolos went over to the house next to Gambion's and knocked.

No answer. He turned the knob to see it was locked. He glanced at the door. It seemed cheap enough to break open. Aiolos gave it a kick, but the door refused to move. He growled in impatience and took a few steps from the door.

Well, there wasn't anyone around, so no one would know that he broke open a door. He sheathed his tin flute for his concert flute and took a deep breath. He put the flute to his mouth and blew out a high E. The door put up some resistance, but soon, it gave way to the concentrated gust. Aiolos stopped playing, and took a few moments to catch his breath.

"Hey!" He yelled hoarsely, "Lets see if there's anythin' here!"

"Eh, we're doing that?" Lah glanced over at Aiolos after the door came open and shrugged, turning around and delivering a solid kick to the door of the house he was in, just above the doorknob. It groaned, creaked whatnot, but didn't give yet.

Lah took a few steps back, and then darted forward and kicked it again. It gave this time, and he fell straight through the empty door-frame, emerging moments later to head over to where Aiolos was, with a few extra splinters.

This seemed like it could end badly for team Radiant’s Heroes, but the plan was already in action. Mozz choose a door a few houses up from where his teammates were knocking and looked at it for a minute. Oh…what the hell. Mozz moved up to the door and knocked at the door.

“Avon calling!”

If no one answered then Mozz would force open he door with a liberal application of mold. He was against breaking in fundamentally, but given the situation he really wouldn't call it that. Hopefully someone would answer, someone had to still be alive in this town.

Speaking of calling, Mozz's phone began ringing at that moment. If he picked it up, Eileen's small voice would come through on the other end. <>

There was nothing. Well, that's not right. There were things, but no people. In one or two houses, there was even a half eaten frozen TV dinner kind of meal sitting on the coffee table in the living room, with a radio playing live jazz music.

It wasn't as if people had fled for their lives, it was as if they'd all gotten beamed up on a spaceship at the exact same time.

"Uh..." Lah wandered past Aiolos, leaving his own broken-into house for after he finished looking through one with other people. Y'know, safety in numbers.

Wandering into the living room, he glanced around, with a quirked brow. "That's... odd."

"Nothing here guys, I get the feeling that we won't find anyone in any of these houses either." Gambion said, coming back out of the house he had been in. "Let's move on. I think the second most probable place to find people would be at work, that's where people spend most of their time when they're not at home."

He rounded up his personal self to get ready to move, then headed off to the District of Steel.
