The District of Steel

It was once said that The District of Steel was a beacon of technology and industry, up until the fall of X-Tech Industries in the early years of the new millennium due to the "live orphan incident." Nothing has been proven, but every now and then small children who have a habit of finding their way into
cracks or crazy kids and their dogs in vans have a way of finding new mysteries within the decaying wings of the old factories. They might even find a secret entrance or two....

A large section of this area has been ravaged by explosions, and the contents of several warehouses have been entirely destroyed.

Three "toed" mechinacal legs moved a twelve-by-seven-by-six feet silver robotic transport through the industrial sector. It's sensors were going mad and it wasn't going to let anything sneak up on it again.

The turret on it's back swiveled as it moved slowly.

Joseph entered the district of steel.

"Ok, I don't want to spend much time here but..." He looked at the other few, "If you see a factory marked "awesome munitions", just tell me.

A few yards behind Joseph walked Raymond, rifle cradled in his arms as he took in the sights of the large factories and empty streets...so cold, so bleak. It was so odd. Back home in Durem the industry never ceased, all day and night he could hear the machines pounding and could smell that industry smell, a mix of smog and sulfur. It was a little freaky to see such a large complex empty, devoid of all life. Speeding up is pace he caught up to Joseph, walking beside him.

"So tell me man, what do you think happened here? I mean I know it's a rather odd mystery we've all be hired to help solve...you have to have a theory, cause even I have one." he said, proud that he had come up with own theory.

"Fancy meeting you guys here."

Gambion came from the direction of the Worker's Rest.

"There was nobody home in the houses, we figured they might be at work."

Eileen blinked when she saw Gambion walking in, while still trying to get ahold of Mozz. She followed Joseph and Raymond, and appeared to have shucked off all three of her heavy winter jackets. Still clad in a light jacket, gloves, and snow pants possibly three layers thick as well, she hummed a tune to herself while craning her head to the right to hold her phone to her shoulder.

"...would be a convenient shop now, would'n'it?"

Not ******** magic. Not ******** magic. Not ******** magic.

It was actually much easier to believe in this industrial area. It was city like. Modern stuff. Sorta like home, the old one.

He tucked his hands in his pockets and strolled on off to the side of everyone, taking a good look at the buildings they were passing. Signs of life would have been great, but he doubted he'd see any. Awesome munitions didn't seem likely either, but who knew.

Maybe he'd find the script for this newest crazy s**t somewhere. All of these things seemed like they might as well of come out of films. Entire cities disappearing...

"...if all the missing people start pouring out like zombies or something..."

Before anyone asked, he was infact just talking to himself aloud again. Had to do something not to think about all the magic.

Aiolos walked through the Steel district with a small sense of familiarity. His family produced metals in factories like this, so he knew a few things about it. From the looks of it, it had everything a metalworking factory would have, except the people. Which was still very depressing.

He walked over to the others, "Yeah, houses are empty, but it doesn't look like they were forced off."

Bryant and company came soon afterwards, Bryant looking around, as if the smallest detail might give a clue. He still had his leather coat on, as if worried that it might start snowing again. That or he just thought he looked awesome in a leather jacket. Which he did, but still.

"We probably want to head more in town after we set up base somewhere." Sam pointed out, trying to get Bryant's attention, but he seemed absorbed in the graffiti on some wall.

"Bryant!" She poked on his back with some frustration and when he turned to look at her, it was just a pleasant smile as if he hadn't been doing anything at all to annoy her.

"Yes, darlin'?" His hand ran along the wall even as he spoke. He was going to find it, and he could barely contain his excitement.

Lah wandered in behind everyone else, shrugging. "Heard music from some of those buildings, I think. Maybe. Damn creepy."

"Zombies? I hope not. Not with me missing my bike, here."

Ah, and for the first time Allen said something, as he followed the group. He was quieter than he used to be it seemed, after being away for so long. He recognized Kael from seeing him with Owle at one point, he knew Joe, and he had worked with Sam. But beyond that he didn't recognize anyone right off, even with all the crises' he'd helped solve.

Right now he was kinda wishing for something more straightforward, like when Chaos had invaded. There he'd at least been in the final battle. Since then he'd felt like he was in the background too much.

"Something showing itself would be nice, though. I've been in these things way too often, and the silence is making me worry. It shouldn't be this quiet. there's always something around to cause trouble."

The turret atop the walker turned in the direction of the approaching group. With a short backdraft a RPG was launched towards the entering group. Whizzing through the air, the guided explosive device should take a post to get to the group considering the distance between the two.

With that the mechanical monster began to make haste in the other direction.

Eileen finished her phone call, and slid the digital slider to "locked", placing it into the Pochacho-emblazoned holster at her side, which was currently hidden by her bag, which swung lightly at her side, in time with the swayings of her incredibly long, braided ponytail. Still humming the tune to herself, she glanced about at the various architecture represented throughout the area, taking none of it in.

At the comment of zombies however, she giggled a little, and turned to Allen. "...ne, it's ok." the mousy little girl said shyly from behind the bangs that covered half her face. "i'll protect you."

And the sound of the RPG being fired was unmistakable. He'd heard it often in the Broken City after all.

"I hate it when I'm right."

And with those simple words allen launched himself into the air, his scaled wings seeming to just appear on his back as he lifted himself upwards. He trusted the others to take care of themselves, and he wanted to find what shot at them.

Spotting something moving, he called down to the others.

"I think I see something moving. I'm going to check it out, anyone who feels like following feel free. I'll report back, by calling Joe if nothing else."

And with that he was off, flying towards the movement that he'd seen amongst the buildings. And getting the hell out of the way of the RPG as he did so.

He was sorry he couldn't reply to what the girl said, but avoiding firey death was important, you know.

Mozz had arrived at base camp to a larger group then he had initially met. Bryant had arrived on the scene. That was good, as Mozz was worried that some of the late arrivals had been caught in a blizzard or perhaps attacked. It was good to see that at least some of them were fine.

“This place is a ghost town” Mozz sighed as he arrived “How can an entire population vanish like that, they didn’t clean up, they didn’t shut off the raid, they didn’t even shut the fridge door. They just…vanished?”

He looked at his comrades both befuddled and a bit distressed “What does that?”
