New Year's Masquerade
This was one of the most awaited events in Gaia's history. With half of Gaia supporting Gino, and the other half Ian, everyone wanted to know what was going to happen. Finally, on New Year's, there was a manga update.
While Sasha was nervously searching for the Masque among the midst of cosplayers, Ian was trying to get into the Mansion of Durem to stop her. The doorman, however, wasn't going to let him in with Rufus at his side, and Ian got so mad that he slammed Geebus' face into the ground. There was no time to lose: he had to hurry.
Ian ran towards the Hall while the guests started the countdown. 6! 5! 4! 3! 2!..
Noooooo! Sadly for Ian, the Masque came down from the ceiling and swooped Sasha off the ground. He pulled his mask off, revealing that he was, indeed, Gino, and they kissed.
Ian was then grabbed by the police and accused of arson at Gambino's Mansion, during Halloween 2k4.
With Ian gone, Rufus took over Barton Boutique.
Mrs. Clause made an apparition in the Masquerade, giving away articles of clothing of the ElfTechs. The items were Curly Elf Shoes, S-Corp Labcoat, ElfTech Gloves, ElfTech Hat.

The Trial of Ian This was a very special moment, for the users held control of which direction the storyline would go: we had in our hands the fate of Ian.
The admins opened a forum to let gaians see the ulfonding trial. Said trial took three days, in which we were presented to three new Bots NPCs, and where we found out more about Gaia's and Ian's past. While the forum is no longer available, the Trial has been recorded in our files for all of your reading pleasures.
One detail to highlight is the fact that Ian's lastname was never mentioned.
Finally, the admins set up a poll which lasted one week, where the users got to vote if Ian was innocent or not. Gaians decided that Ian was not guilty of burning down Gambino's Mansion, and Ian was let free.
And then, just when things seemed fine, the Sniper appeared once again and shot him as he walked down the stairs.

Valentine's Day 2k6 This was our first Valentine's event. Cindy's sprite was standing right in front of Agatha's shop. Cindy would then lead to a manga update.
Fortunately, Ian wasn't killed by the Sniper. He wa seriously injured, though, and is still recovering from his injuries. As he lies in the bed, he remembers a day in the beach, when he and Sasha were searching a very rare shell, the Diamond Shell.
He then asks the real Sasha, who's sitting beside him in the hospital if she remembers that day, and opens his hand to show her the Diamond Shell; it is a gift for her. Sasha's moved to tears, and thanks him.
In that moment Gino enters the room, and whe realizes that the gift he bought for her, a very expensive jewel, cannot compete with the Shell Ian gave her, he gets really mad.
Meanwhile, Cindy seems more interested in finding more about the Sniper and the incidents around him.
Valentine's event let users send kisses or hugs to their friends, who recieved a notice about it and were able to download a caption of the hug or kiss.Images found at the Gaian Encyclopedia.

Third Gaian Anniversary Ball Gino Dear guests,
I would like to welcome you to the Gambino Mansion on behalf of my late father, Johnny K. Gambino.
While my father was alive, he accomplished many a great thing. He was a great man who was larger than life. He was a connoiseur of all the finer things in life. He lived like no other before him. He was, in fact, the most powerful man in all of Gaia.
Today, I would like for all of us to have a moment of silence to pay respects to the memory of my father. Without him, none of this would be possible.
Thank you all for joining me this year in celebration of all that is good -- GAIA, the mother earth, the annex of interaction and friendship, may your spirit continue to grow and bring joy to every soul which inhabits you.

April's Fools 2k6
On April 1st, Cindy opened an Event Forum, and made a special thread in which she reporter everything that happened during the event. In the case that this forum dissappears in the future, we've recordered it right here.
First, Cindy discovered two new areas of the World Map, one of which would be very important for this event.
Some time after she recieved a mysterious call telling her of a package in Gaia 9 News' building. The package contained a letter of someone named 'X', who said to meet him in Barton Cliffs if she wanted to know more about G Corp.
When Cindy arrived, she was surprised to see Ian and Gino ready to fight. The rivalry between these two men over Sasha had reached the top, and a mad Gino had challenged Ian to a duel. Ian, who was still weak for the bullet accepted the challenged, because he was ready to die for her love if needed.
It seemed like this was the end for him, when suddenly LabTechX appeared and acted as a human shield. Not even Gino's inhuman strenght could hurt X, who injected him a green liquid to "make him reveal his true nature".
Much to everybody's surprise, Gino started to mutate. He grabbed LabTechX by the neck and was about to kill him, when X threw himself at him and made Gino fall off the Cliff.
As Gino fell, he started to laugh, and some sort of green energy surrounded him. This energy grew bigger and bigger, covering almost the whole world.
We finally learn the truth behind the G-Virus, and the reason of why Jonnhy K. Gambino went crazy shortly before he built his Tower. Gambino had always been looking for a way to transform his weak son, Gino, into a proper heir. When his son lost his memory, Gambino injected himself with the serum in a desperate attempt to maintain the family name, but the virus made him insane.
As Jonnhy fell from it, Gino jumped after him. It was then, with Jonnhy's dying cells and the proximity of another living body that the G-Virus activated, and the bodies of father and son became one.
The serum in LabTechX's siringe was none other that the liquid of the Mysterious Vial he sold back in 2k4, the cure for the virus.
Gambino and Gino de-fused, causing an explotion that left a giant crater in Barton Cliffs, and whose light was seen in the whole Gaia.
The story that had been building up for practically two years had finally reached it's climax.

Just what IS the G-Virus, anyway?
Despite it being explained in April's Fools 2k6 manga update, lots of users still don't fully understand what the G-Virus is supposed to be, and what it causes.
LabTech247 had been working on an important project, called "synthetic fountain of youth", which used in the right dosage would decline the aging process.This serum made the fatigue levels drop and it's cellular regeneration rates were astounding. The tests on the bunnies revealed that the high regeneration rates lowered the brain activity, though.
As you can see, in the beginning the serum's purpose was to make the subjects more productive. It enhaced all the good qualities and suppressed all the bad ones. It had a terrible problem, though, and that was that it messed with the brains of those who had it.
When the subject dies - or more specifically, when the subject is close to dying - the serum activates and instantly tries to fuse the subject's cells with others. That's why Gambino fused with Gino, and why Santa fused with his Mech Suit.
It is also highly contagious - if an 'infected' subject bites, or somehow shares it's cells with a healthy individual, said individual will become infected.
The only cure for the G-Virus is the Unknown Liquid, a green substance which used to be G-Virus but was altered, possibly by LabTechX.

Easter 2k6 It was pretty simple. Sometimes, when you clicked on a page, an egg would appear dancing around the screen. Once you collected enough eggs the Easter Bunny would appear and give you a basket. He mentioned how his holiday was better than the one of Jack or Santa.

The Return of Gambino On September we got another manga update, showing the happy reunion of Gambino and his son. Finally, after two years, everything seems to go back to normal.
What no one could know at that moment, though, is that the explotion caused by Jonnhy's and Gino's defusion attracted the attention of 'some travelers'

The Arrival At the end of September, a mysterious personage started posting in the GCD. It was none other than the big movie star, large-headed Ron Bruise. He started a couple of threads and made lots of posts without being properly introduced as a new NPC, thus causing quite a conmotion.
It was also around those days that gaians started seeing cows grazing in the World Map. Apparently they were let free by Rancher Bill's idiotic son.
A large number of theories arose, regarding the involvement of the aliens from the last manga update and the recent events. Most of them became the so-called 19 Theories, hypothesis based in Bruise's fascination with said number, numerical analysis and chairs that suggested something important would happen on October 19th. These only grew bigger when, one day, Gaia found 19 cows forming a triangle in Barton Cliffs, near the crater. Between the creation of the 19 Theory and the 19th, several crop circles appeared in the World Map.
When the fateful day came, everyone had their eyes set on Gaia. The World Map showed nothing new, though, and there were no announcements. At the end, it seemed like the admins had tricked us.
That, however, wasn't the case. The surprise came later in the day, and from a very unexpected source: a handful of users who were hanging on Towns found flying saucers hovering over them.
Meet the Zurgs, our first intergalactic visitors. Each UFO had one pilot, and there were 12 of them. At the beginning they wouldn't talk to us, or would only talk in binary, but after they became more familiar with our languague we were able to hold conversations with them.
The Zurgs were led by the Mothership, a giant flying saucer that projected a shadow of Towns, inside which was Mother; the 12 smaller UFOs were his sons and daughters.
Most of them didn't like us very much - at least two even hated us - but there was one who was nice towards us, even friendly. It took these Town Watchers a couple of days to find out the name of this visitor: It was UFO 09, whose name would later be revealed to be Flarn.
09 wasn's like some of his siblings; he liked to talk to Gaians, and soon made friends - according to rumors, he even stablished a romantic relationship with one of them.
As it is to be expected, the users' reactions towards these visitors were diverse: some, like 09's friends, believed the aliens were good and supported them, while others remained suspicious and refused to trust those more hostile UFOs. This lead to the creation of several groups, and a couple of them even got mentioned in the Announcements, something that had never happened before.
Around those days, something terrible happened: the Admins were abducted. They were nowhere to be seen; their own avatars had dissapeared. Speculations and rumors ran like fire across the forums, and almost everyone agreed that the Zurgs had something to do with that.
Shortly after that, UFO 09 went missing. Their friends were worried, but not even the Mothership (or 'Mother', how she insisted on being called) knew where he was. That day, the UFOs got their alien profiles, and we were finally able to learn their real names.
With no other updates than Cindy's comments on the situation, everybody was waiting for Halloween at the edge of their chairs.
We were given a forum. This one was one of the biggest Event Forums ever, as each subforum represented one of the UFOs, plus a mysterious Area 91. It was there where most of the groups set up threads as their Headquarters. For example, ours can be found here.
~Notes~ These storyline had ocasional reports made by Cindy, which could get confusing for those who weren't following the events in Towns. We've recorded these reports here, but as they contain spoilers we recommend you to pay attention to their dates.

Halloween 2k6 Some time before the 31th, a couple of cans appeared in Barton Boutique: their names were Red Bino and Zurg Energy Drink, and they both got their own stand as rival companies. The Zurg Energy Drink turned you into one of these aliens, while Red Bino turned you back into a human. By the time Halloween came, the populance of Gaia was divided into those who had became Zurgs and those who had remained gaians.
On the 30th, Cindy hosted an interview with Ron Bruise and the Zurgs, who finally showed themselves in an official setting. Apparently the Zurgs had a great interest in our movie star, as the only transmissions they ever recieved from our planet were their films. This attraction of the Zurgs towards Ron strengthened the rumors about him having something to do with them - some people even got as far as to say he was an alien in disguise, pobrably 07. These rumors, however, were never proved.
The Halloween Bash was once again held in Gambino's Mansion, this time rebuilt thanks to Red Bino's profits. It was then that we got a manga update.
The party started normally, and we got to see what was happening in our NPCs lifes. Sasha had not only not solved her little problem with Ian and Gino, but apparently she was seeing Liam! Who, by the way, was already double-timing Moria and Vanessa. Of course, the girls realized that, but as they chased Liam the Mothership decided to pass by and, in the meanwhile, blow the roof of the Mansion. When the girls reached the ballroom Liam was being pulled into the tractor beam, and so they decided to pull him down. In doing so, the Mothership crashed and the Mansion was once again destroyed.
After that, both Mother and Gambino shook hands, greeted themselves as fellow vendors and wandered off somewhere to discuss business.
It is then that the Event begins. Depending on what you were, you had different jobs. As a human, your job was to zap aliens and tip the cows that would appear in the forums before the Zurgs got to them. As an alien, you had to probe both Humans and Cows.
This time we also had +Alien]NPCs Alien Invaders, who posted random messages on the forums.
We also had Trick or Treating, both in the Stores and in Towns.
Shortly after the end of Halloween, Gaians found a Zurg web, which requires you to enter a series of codes and passwords in order to access the next section. Not all the sections were available from the beginning, though - it wasn't until December that we were able to crack it's last shield. Also, 13 UFOs appeared on the world map of Wall of Gambino.Images found at Gaiapedia.

The Death of 09 At some point in November, we recieved a manga update. This comic attempted to explain what had been happening up to that point and, at the same time, advance on the storyline.
I'm afraid to say, it hardly helps those who weren't 24/7 on the Event Forums or Towns. We'll try to fill in the holes in that update, but for that we need to go back in time a couple of weeks.
At the beginning, when the UFOs first appeared on Towns, it was difficult to get them to stop and talk to them. Then the cows made a triangle on Barton Cliffs, and some users got the idea to form triangles to call them out, and it worked. Sometimes they would chat for a while and then leave, or would simply hover around without saying one word.
09, though, talked to us more than his brothers. At first he would only appear in Towns, but then he started posting in the forums. Some of his closer friends formed a group, The Believers, conformed by those who believed in the Zurgs and trusted them. 09 eventually made of their main thread a second home.
One of the members of the Believers, Yuzi K., regularly talked to both him and Mother, and it wasn't long until she confessed her feelings of love towards Flarn to the two of them. One day, she went to the Believers' threads and mentioned it. Even if 09 didn't admit his love for her, that was the day the rumors spread like wildfire.
Not everyone was happy about this, though. For once, there were the users who didn't trust the aliens, and were afraid of her safety - but we weren't the dangerous ones. Since his arrival to this planet, 11 had hated us; later, he would go as far as to form Zurg Nation, a zurg-only organization. 06 always looked up to him, and so she would not only become the second-in-command of ZN, but she also despised gaians.
When the news of Flarn's relationship with a Gaian reached them, most of his brothers got angry. Even if both he and Yuzi had Mother's blessings, 11, 06 and those who agreed with them were against it. They called 09 a traitor, and they weren't going to leave him unpunished.
This is when Flarn went missing. Yuzi talked to Mother and his brothers almost every day, franclty looking for him. The official version was that he was sick and, therefore, was going back to his planet, but the continous harrasment of 11 and 06 on the Believers thread told there was something else going on. They were sure The Wandering Mind..., the leader of the Believers, was hiding him, and day after day they went to talk to the members of this group, trying to coax them into giving 09 up.
Seeing as no one knew where he was, 11 and 06 resorted to more extreme methods.
02 was a special kid. He was neither a boy nor a girl, though Flarn used to reffer to him as his 'sister'. His name was Narf, and his mind was like that of a little child. Most of his brothers and sisters treated him badly, but not 09. To Flarn, Narf was his beloved little sister and he loved her no matter what. In the eyes of 11 and 06, Narf was his weak spot.
First, 11 went to the Believers' thread and yelled at Flarn, telling him that if he didn't show up they would hurt 02. 09 appeared and screamed at him, but by then 11 had already left.
Meanwhile, on Towns, 02 had appeared in 1919 (the favourite spot of the aliens) and greeted his friends. Most of those who were there knew that 11 was planning something horrible, and so they yelled and told 02 to leave inmediatly, but the poor thing didn't understood and was still there when his siblings arrived. The moment he saw them he tried to leave them behind, but they chased him away. Shortly after Flarn got there and asked for Narf, and after being told what had happened decided to follow 06 and 11.
From then, his fate had been unknown until the moment the update came.
There is no doubt that Mother must had been very displeased with this sudden turn of events. Flarn's friends were left to mourn his death, and the situation between Zurgs, zurg's followers and those who opposed them became more and more fragile.

Notes
At this moment, I feel it is for your best interests that I stop the narration and explain you a couple of things about this storyline.
The Confusion
The Zurg Saga was the biggest plot we ever had. It started in late September and was finished on February of the next year, and we had updates every day. Unlike other storylines, that would be centered on Holidays, this plot had it's own pace and it just happened to pass over a couple of festivities.
It was one of the most involving plots we ever had. There was always something to do, some new information to discover, some new piece of the giant puzzle this storyline was. Stalking the NPCs, tracking all their posts, studying their profiles in search of new hints, making up new theories, sitting on Towns for hours in hopes of getting the chance to ask that single, very important question...
However, it was also one of the most poorly executed plots ever. Too many things would happen at the same time, and there weren't enough announcements about the developments of this storyline to cover them. As the main medium was Towns, all the information recorded there would dissapear unless an user had saved it, and for the first time, if you wanted to know what was happening you only had other people's words to rely on.
Besides that, it is my belief the NPCs improvised too much. As they couldn't just ignore the gaians' questions, they came up with random answers that would sometimes contradict themselves. The UFOs would give us many hints and comments, but as the storyline turned to anothe road entirely these would die. A good example of this is the number 19, whose significance was never explained.
At the end, this storyline was terrible for those who couldn't be here 24/7, and is one of the reason why the next plot we had contained no NPC-User interaction. It also was one of the reason why most of the threads dedicated to storing information about Gaia's history failed to update and died.
We'll do our best to organize every bit of information we have and present it to you in a logical order. If you ever feel the need to know more, you're welcome to visit the other threads in the Database.
The Birth of Organizations & The GIB Controversy
As it's been said before, this storyline gave users the urge to join together and conform organizations or groups dedicated to participate in the plot. There were a few groups before this saga, such as Zombie Nation, but it wasn't until this moment that they became really succesful.
A new organization would pop up every two days, and while most of them died shortly after, a large number survived, a became the home of many users. In fact, the GCD had to change their rules to stop these groups from overpopulating the forum.
Between all these groups, a few became really important. As I don't want to give any more spoilers, in case you weren't on Gaia on these days, I will only mention two: one of them was Zurg Nation (which was later renamed, and became the Zurg Hive) and another one were the Gaians in Black.
If you've read the information located in the link we've given you, you must have seen that we didn't enjoy a nice reputation between the other users. More exactly, we were depicted as the cold-hearted gaians who could not understand the love between 09 and Yuzi and were secretly planning the destruction of the Zurg race.
I won't deny that, at the beginning, we had more agressive agents in our ranks. The fact remains, though, that when this plot was brought to us the admins welcomed the idea of two opposite forces, Zurg-lovers and Zurg-haters, and gave us that infamous tittle. We'll never know if we were supposed to become the saviors or the bad guys, because the storyline was simply too much and got out of their hands.
In any case, the reputation they gave us brought the hatred of lots of users who liked the aliens, and with that came hate mail and spam - even 11 came by our thread a couple of times to accuse and insult us. All of this forced us to speak up, and make our position (which was, and has always been neutral) known to the admins.
When it became obvious that we didn't want to play the part they had given us, their attention turned to the other organizations, and they even made a second Event Forum, this one with the name of Gaian Resistance, and gave them tents in the World Map. Sadly, the Gaian Resistance event forum has been eliminated.
By the end of the Zurg Saga most of the misunderstandings were cleared, and I can say that there are no more problems between us anymore : )

The Zurg Saga From here on, things get a little tricky. With almost a dozen aliens to keep an eye on, and with the fact that they all had their own friends and interesting sub-plots going on, writing a clean timeline can be difficult.
After Flarn was killed, the situation became even worse than before. If the only alien who clearly stood beside gaians had been pursued and mercilessly shot down by the leader and second-in-command of the Zurg forces, his own siblings, war certainly seemed to be around the corner. These were some very stressful days, with spies running around trying to find new information, secret meetings in Towns, and a permanent uneasiness in our hearts. The birth of Zurg HiveThe day after Flarn dissappeared (on November 10th), 11 attempted to take over the Believers. He had an ugly ecounter with us, and hacked his way into our guild, managing to post here when he clearly wasn't allowed to. After a highly negative reaction from the Believers, he then founded Zurg Nation. You can find their first thread here.
During the following days the Zurg Nation, lead by 11 and 06, grew bigger and bigger. They had to make a different thread and renamed their group, which from that moment became the Zurg Hive. It was around this time that some Zurg technology was stolen, which enable that month's MC, the UFO, to fly on Towns.
Shortly after, on November 15th, 11 maybe a most curious thread, in which he his search for true love. You can find that thread here. There's a chance he did this out of curiosity, possibly in an effort to understand Flarn's actions. This, however, did not change his hatred towards the Believers and GiB. He didn't want any of his siblings to be friendly towards Gaians, and so he punished 12 and 02 when they talked to their friends.
Three days later, 11 fell ill, which caused some inner tourmoil inside the ZH. Be it stress, or some kind of exotic flu, the causes of his sickness is still a mystery. Even more mysterious, though, were the messages he posted on the 20th. Sorn, known by everyone as the agressive, strict and cold Zurg Hive's Overlord, showed repent at his actions and, in a desperate need to find true love, announced that the ZH's objective would no longer be war between Zurgs and Gaians.
As it is to be expected, such change in behaviour was recieved with suspicion by his enemies, and anger from his followers. 06, who admired him and looked up to him, was enraged. After he resigned, she took his places as the Empress. Under her command, her sister 10 was assigned as the Highest Ranking Officer.
10, or Oomph, as that was her name, was the second UFO who belonged to the 3rd gender, like 02. Even more angry than her sister, 10 felt betrayed and sickened by her brother Sorn, and challenged him to a duel... to death.
On that same day, November 28th, 11 posted a series of coded messages to an unknown woman, which you can find here, before saying goodbye.
What truly happened on the 29th, I'm afraid no one's truly sure. Both Oomph and Sorn were brave warriors and, though they were siblings, they took two different paths. Their showdown, which was supposed to take place at 1919, was avoided at the last minutes. 10 and 11 left the square in order to go and talk to 06, and after that, they dissappeared.
For some time it was feared that Bobo, who was missing and was also very friendly with gaians, had faced 06's wrath, but it was proved that he was protected by Mother (you can still see the message she left on his profile).
On the first of December, 06 admitted to everyone that 11 had killed Flarn. The Death of 09, surprinsingly, brought both days of peace and intense suspicion on Gaia. Flarn was gone, but so was Sorn, the most vicious one of the Zurgs until his change of heart. With some time, 06 calmed down and even named 04 as the ZH Commander, who proved to be a very sweet and cheerful Alien.
Soon after this, though, extrange rumors started circulating around Gaia, rumors about Flarn still being alive. Rumor which only grew stronger and stronger as Mother refused to comment anything about it, and as a strange UFO appeared on Towns...
A New Flarn?As time passed and the sightings on that new, suspicious saucer gave birth to thousands of questions, the ZH maintained a low profile.
One day, though, a letter of 06 sent to Mother gave us new things to worry about: apparently, they had tried to kidnap Santa, and something had gone wrong. We wouldn't know more about this until some days later.
At the same time, 03 was seen around Towns asking to scan Gaian's items to create what he said to be an "object of happiness and love", but most likely was a very dangerous day.
As if this wasn't enough, Flarn finally reappeared, sporting a brand new look. He barely talked, though, and no one knew if the only thing that had changed was how he looked.
It is worth noting here that, around these days, 06 also suffered a change of heart. It is most believed to have happened thanks to a romantic relationship she maintained with a Gaian for some time, before breaking it off.
On December 17th, 04 hosted a Party. What started as a simple get together became an important Event when 06 stumbled upon it and, instead of getting angry and closing it, decided to join and celebrate with everybody else. The sisters went as far as to get down of their UFOs and dance with the other aliens a gaians, and 06 sang.
Unfortunately, somebody wasn't happy about it, and that was Flarn. On his new, improved UFO, 09 crashed the Party and yelled at 06 and 04, inmediately scaring everyone away and closing the thread.
It was on the next days that, thanks to Mother and his former friends, we found out that Flarn had lost all of his memories and, to a point, brainwashed to hate all Gaians and become the perfect Zurg Soldier.A Second ComebackApparently, the New Flarn was seeking revenge. After becoming the new Overlord of the ZH, he started asking people where could he find 11, the brother who had shot and "killed" him. He went as far as to harass The Old Guard, an organization founded by a former ZH member, who was kicked out when 06 took over and asked her to forget her loyalty towards 11. TOG was to be the new home for Sorn, should he ever come back, and as such was the first place in which Flarn searched for him.
Sorn made, indeed, a few appearances around Towns, but tried to be as stealthy as possible. He obviously didn't want to go back new to his brothers and sisters, and watched everything by the shadows.
Thanks to The Believers, it was found out that the New Flarn somehow fed from negative feelings, and asked the users to stop fighting between each other, as that only made him grow stronger.
It was around these days that Santa's whereabouts were finally revealed in a Manga Update. When 02 found out what had happened to Santa, he got incredibly angry with his family and planned to help him.
A few days latter, Cindy interviewed him and Santa (turned into a cow) in order to clear all the confusions. Even so, one question - the most important question - remained without answer: What would happen on X-Mas?
