Introduction -
I'm not all sure what to put here, so I'll simply say welcome. My name is Mori and this would be my questing thread. Herein I'll put my ideas regarding my Raevan, and I hope to hear your suggestions and input.
Roleplay's History -
I've been roleplaying since I was around nine, and am almost always thinking of it in some way or another. I started with freeform digimon roleplays and tabletop D&D, and have since there moved to many other types as well. I'm currently designing a three campaign Digimon game with my own battle system, as well as an adult freeform sci-fi game to be started in December.
Why I want a Raevan -
I'm a huge roleplayer, but I've had some trouble finding anything as serious as I'd want it. In addition, I adore art, so when I saw the art for the Raevans I was instantly enticed. The fact that it's roleplay based is even better. And hey, getting me to save for something doesn't hurt either.

 1/29/08 - Long time no see, and an even longer time without any edits. But I sat down today and added to my souls section quite a bit, and plan to add more to other sections as well. I'll make notes here as I do. Now added, additional concept information.11/19/07 - I'm not done with everything, but I'm opening it up for critique on what I've got. 11/18/07 - Lots of editing and formatting. What -
Metal Fleece AKA 'Steel Wool'
Why -
This had been meant to be a joke, and then evolved from there. After everyone pushed a bit, it gave me enough inspiration to make it work and come up with a proper name and Essence. Good to know a bad joke can be good for something.
But What is It -
A long time ago, there was a winged ram with fleece as soft as spun silk and made of pure gold. He was a beautiful creature who was sacrificed after a duty to a goddess's child, and his fleece hung for others to quest for. The full fleece is long since gone, but this small bit of it remains, no longer soft and gold but hard and sharp metal. Gold was unusual enough, but this?!?
Possible Powers -
By the nature of the myth, in addition to what the essence itself is, there's not much I can actually see the Raevan as being able to do. Perhaps some minor invulnerability. I think that any powers would probably come more from the soul. This Fel Essence seems more like it would effects the colors and personality most.
Possible Effects on Personality -
I've made this pun before, and sadly I feel it necessary to make it again. The Metal Fleece would make one abrasive. The history of the wool is steeped in darkness, and the essence itself is tainted to become what it is. I believe a Raevan made of it would be easily angered and unable to trust easily. As that's rather shallow by itself, it somehow needs to be tempered and deepened with the addition of the soul.

What - Golden Silk Spider
Why - This was an idea given to me by Mouse, but after some actual research and thought, it's become my favorite, for a few reasons. There is a similar mythology between a spider and the golden fleece, and Arachne was known for her weaving, a practice often done with wool. Add to that the fact that the dark metallic of the fel essence and the gold of the soul would look good together. Finally, the character I actually have in mind for this is a designer and tailor by trade, and the combination makes complete sense as what he'd want.
Possible Personality Factors - Personality here is a bit difficult to pin down. Spiders are typically skittish and a bit standoffish, but they're also hunters.
Possible Powers - Also a bit difficult. Weaving? Still figuring that out.
What - Munin
Why - This one has a bit of sentiment to be as well as a connection to the Fel Essence. Munin is Odin's bird, who tells him all the secrets of the world and is named as 'Memory.' As can be seen by my screen name, the memory is an interesting subject. However, this could also be interesting with the Fel Essence as mythology, which the Essence comes from, is something that must pass through memory to make it to present day. In addition, Munin is a raven, a scavenger bird, who'd probably have found the idea of a bit of dead skin in a tree tasty.

What - Panda
Why - Look, something different. This is here not only because I adore pandas, but also because I can see the mistake that a panda's soul might temper the abrasiveness of the essence being quite easy to make. The panda seems docile, quiet and lazy. The fact that they easily become irritated and display violent tendencies, well... That's not common knowledge.
Possible Personality Factors - While pandas can be aggressive, they really are lazy creatures. Mostly, they are quiet and relaxed creatures who won't do much. They anger easily, but mostly don't bother with attacking.
Possible Powers -
What - Electric Eel
Why - This is another odd one, but metal conducts electricity. That's the main reasoning. Not to mention I like the idea of it.
Possible Personality Factors - Eels are rather bad tempered by nature. They're aggressive and will attempt to eat anything smaller then them. Meaning a Raevan made with both the Metal Fleece and an Electric Eel's soul would be a major handful, at the very least.
Possible Powers - Electricity. Bad-temperament.

Potential Abilities -
Personality - Between soul and fel essence, Aurom is mostly a loner. In any situation his first instinct is to withdraw from things in order to observe and decide the best course with the information gained from watching. Once he actually decides on a course of action, which may take a while and may never actually happen sometimes, only then will he approach another Raevan or human. His words are often shuttered in insults or rudeness, but it's usually just his method of having a way out of a conversation or situation at any time.

Your essence sounds sort of like something I remember from mythology...something to do with Jason the Argonaut. Wish I could remember that story, but anywho, you've only scratched the surface here hon. You really do need to think more on how the essence came to be, like how did the storm effect this ram of yours, etc? Also, even if your Raevan doesn't get it's abilities or powers from it, the essence does determine what it feeds upon. Does it feed on gold? And if so, does it turn that gold to metal from feeding upon it? Or is it the total opposite or something entirely different?
As for the whole memory thing, I'd check in on Kaurii's quest because I do at least remember that she is also toying with the same subject matter. Hate for you two to accidentally butt heads or something. Though being yours has more to do with your Raevan's soul and hers with the essence, I don't think there'll be too much problem with differences. And while we're on this memory thing, I think your best soul is Munin for this capacity as it is suppose to be memory in flesh form so to speak. Thus it'll fit more properly with being able to give your Raevan those memory powers and such.

Okay, my thoughts on this are kinda opposite of Shade's so bear with me here. XD I personally think that your fel essence's story is just fine as is, and a very interesting idea considering you took something that was already unique and had it be corrupted into something else. Explicitly saying that the storm did anything is kinda redundant here since it's kinda obvious that something happened to it if based on what's written for it. To me, there's just enough for me to go in my head 'okay, yeah, that's definitely a fel essence' while still being curious about what it all means. And that's been the profile of the premade essences in flatsales along with the ones people submitted in a contest a while back that had preselected souls instead of fel essences (Black Duvet and I were the winners of that contest. C: ). As for the souls... be careful. I ended up voting for electric eel in the poll for two reasons: metal conducts electricity and it would be really fun to see what that Raevan would be like, and I think it would be a better idea for hopefuls to try and stray away from bird souls. The concept of it is nifty on its own, but look around at the Raevans that already exist and you'll see that there are already three with a bird soul: Roux with a Roc, Lucretia with a barn owl, and mine with a serpent eagle. So it might be worth your while to explore other ideas, as it might get boring for the shop artists to have to draw ANOTHER bird-Raevan. D8 And, uh... if you took Munin... well, Zavier already has the soul of Thor's horse, Sleipnir. The thought of taking another animal companion from a Norse god makes me imagine the entire pantheon descending from Valhalla on chariots of fire to obliterate Kyou and his creations... o__o; That is, if Odin can remember to have it be done. Finally, since I'm shameless and love to pelt people with ideas nonstop, I think I'll suggest a soul or two. XD So you have golden fleece that's been tainted to a puff of steel. To bring back the charm it once possessed, what about a golden silk spider? These critters actually spin webs that are gold in color... they're really nifty. <3 I see a Raevan with really pretty clothing if you went with this~ >x> Okay... uh, I'm petering out here since it's 11PM and I want to sleep. But, uh, there's a lot of unexplored fields as far as Raevan souls are concerned. Like, I can't think of any mammals off the top of my head besides Sleipnir (if he counts), and there's pretty much nothing in the realm of natural inanimate objects. Rocks can be beuatiful too; they need some love! D8 Some people go with something that somehow compliments their essence, others how it will affect appearance, and other people considered personality (my fel essence is pretty much concentrated depression so I picked the eagle to balance things out XD). But there's also no problem with choosing totally at random... so have fun with it. C:

I actually see the points in what both of you are saying and, after some thought, agree with quite a bit of it. I am keeping Munin on the list simply because I do love the idea of it, but I agree about the bird issue. I also did add the golden silk spider, although I haven't actually did much thought into it yet. I do like spiders though, and the different colors would look nice together.
I am that shallow.
As for my Fel Essence itself, I put a very basic explanation for it, as I feel it's mostly self-explained by itself. I will probably expand on it someday, but as is rather apparent I have lots to get done and that's what's most finished.
EDIT: Also, this is just my random knowledge poking out, Sleipnir is Odin's steed, not Thor's.

I still think this concept is fantastic. XD Just one suggestion: try to pick an alignment other than Chaotic Neutral. A great deal of Raevans have some sort of Chaotic alignment already, and many of then are Chaotic Neutral.
I also noticed you worrying in the thread about coming up with powers and abilities for your Raevan... for one, don't worry about that too much. But I think that the Golden Fleece was sought after because it could fulfill the desires of the person who possessed it.
