It's always funny to see somebody justify their bigotry with "well I have a black / gay / Muslim / etc! friend." Seriously.
Or when people tell a story with "my black / gay / Muslim / etc. friend." Particularly if it's a negative one.
=D

I take it you've had an experience lately...?
I don't think I've ever met a prejudiced person who has friends of whatever group they're against. ._. I've met racists. They drive me nuts. But never a racist who says, "I have a black/gay/Muslim/etc. friend, so it's okay."
(One thing that bugs me, though, is when someone refers to someone else's race for no reason. Like, my aunt has this problem with a girl at her workplace, and she and Mammaw will talk about her... then bring up the fact that she's black for like, no reason. o0 It's like, wtf. If there were a point to saying what race a person is, then yeah, but there was no point.)

&hearts&spades&diams&clubsEh, in my experience, most racist people don't have friends that are in the group they're against. I think at that point, it's just someone stating his opinion (however wrong it may be) who is getting called racist. I see that a lot. I have known people who were racist against their own race, though, and they hung out with their racist white friends. XD Maybe that's what it is. &hearts&spades&diams&clubs

I always feel guilty when something happens like that. I got in a wreck recently and it was the other driver's fault because he swerved out in front of me. And he was a black man, but I didn't even want to tell people that because I hate racist stuff. But then, at the same time, I know I'm letting racism or reverse-racism I suppose grow and succeed because for everyone to be equal, we should be able to say, yeah, it was a black guy's fault and no one should say "oh, that figures" but at the same time, no one should say "oh, you're just blaming him because he's black." It should just be a fact and should be left at that.

I've pretty much had the same experience as Toxic when it comes to racists. :[
But I totally get what you mean.
Making fun of a race and then justifying that action by saying you have a friend of that race is just... :/

There's actually this black kid in my class. He's been with us so long, and being in a Christian school, we forget he's not white. Like every year when we have to fill out the race bubbles on standardized tests. We'll all be like, "Well, everybody's going to be filling out the white/Caucasian bubble again" then we realized that everybody's not going to be filling out that bubble, then we get embarrased for not remembering that he's actually a person of color. Though he doesn't mind.

I mean, differences are very important of course, but maybe you're... like, anti-racist for not even remembering his color? XD I dunno.

I have family members that I've yelled at for starting stories off saying 'This black guy..' like it matters.
Now they say 'This black guy.. not that it matters to the story' So then why are you saying it? -_-
