The Room

After going into what should be the Defense Against the Dark Arts room, you are confronted with a small circular room, with doors leading into three other rooms, circular as well, but much larger. In fact, the rooms are too large to fit the smaller rectangular room that should be there instead, but through magic, the much needed space for students was given.

The doors in the entry room are marked with numbers, from one to three. You step through the second door. The room inside has human-sized dummies all around the walls, with the exception of where the windows are located. These dummies do not serve only as targets though, as they can be commanded to attack on command.

The spell “Incurso” will make the dummy attack the caster every three minutes. It will start glowing until its bright red and humming softly, at that point it will fire a purple bolt that should it hit will either turn the caster’s hair into a random color for twenty four hours, replace its clothes with a bright yellow dress with neon green and neon pink flowers (with the original clothes appearing folded at the casters side, the changing room is located on the entry room) or turn their skin either green or purple for an hour.
The spell to make the attacks stop is “Claudeo”.

The middle of the room is dominated by three dueling platforms, with enchanted glass panes to halt any misfired spells. There is no door to enter them though, as anything but spells can pass through that glass. There are also a few chairs and desks scattered around the room, but the rest of the space is kept clear.

Second Lesson

Already late for class, Professor Avery-York came into the room with some urgency and busyness, carrying several boxes in his arms which all but blocked his view.
Finally making his way to his desk, he set them down on top of it and turned to the students.

"I am deeply sorry for my tardiness class, but I had some urgent affairs I simply had to deal with before coming here, such as this boxes you see assembled here." He smiled looking at them with approval glinting his eyes as he did so. He then looked back at the pupils.

"But that is a matter for the second part of the class, which you have undoubtedly noticed in your schedules, is going to be twice as long this time around. You'll understand why later on but for now let's go on with the lecture."

He turned back to the board and started writing a few things.

"He have here years four and five correct? Correct. So that means two spells, one for each year." Going on with his thick Irish accent, the Professor proceeded to give a lecture on each of the things he mentioned.

"Well then, now that is done with, I want the fourth Years to practice the Petrificus Totalus spell that I have written on the board with some dummies. As usual, they will fight back. Alternativelly, you can find a pair and try to cast it on each other and defend with the Protego spell.

The fifth years are going to play with the Patronus charm. Isn't that marvelous?"

Well then, get to work, we still have much to do. After this part ends, there will be a fifteen minute recess - feel free to go sip some tea and eat some cookies - and then I will show you what's in the boxes at the beginning of the second half." ((OOC: First half ends when the second one begins at October 31st which, in turn, will end November 7th.))

4th Years

Spell - Petrificus Totalus

4th Years: A paragraph about when do you think such a curse should be used and why.

5th Years: A small essay detailing your happiest memory and a description of the form your Patronus took and why do you think it appears like it does.

Homework will have to delivered to a thread in the Professor Offices.

------

Ok class! Time for the second part. I want you all to meet me outside for the second part in half an hour. Those of you who failed to complete your tasks or are showing up late can come to my office. There we will arrange a date for an extra class. Or if you simply wish to practice more, feel free to come too.

Darcy had wondered why her professor was late, and carrying giant boxes no less! But sadly, she had to wait for the second part of class to find out what the boxes contain.

Once she had her assignment, a Patronus Cham, she stood to a corner off the main area.

Darcy, having studied this earlier in the common room a few years back, had known that to conjure a Patronus Charm, one needed a happy memory. She closed her eyes and thought hard.

The happiest memory she could think of at the moment, was of her and her twin brother's eleventh birthday. Their letters had come right when they blew out the candles.

She grinned and opened her eyes. Her memory in her mind, she cast the charm.

"Expecto Patronum!"

A whisp came out from the wand. No definate shape. Darcy closed her eyes and focused harder on the memory.

"Expecto Patronum!"

This time, a small penguin came out. She giggled as it floated around her head cutely. She grinned, that memory was truly her happiest.

Perry almost laughed at Professor Avery-York as he came in, waddling with the boxes. But, he contained himself so as not to get slapped by his sister who was sitting beside him.

He knew that his sister had been looking up on Patronus Charms, and had read over her shoulder a couple of times to get the gist of it. When they were allowed, he stood off in his own corner and tried to think of a happy memory.

Perry remembered his father taunting him about getting into Slytherin easily right before he boarded the train in his first year. He had been very frightened, and tried to help as many people as he could on the train to combat his karma. Once he was on the Sorting Hat, he had pleaded with the Hat to not put him in Slytherin, and when it said that he was, in no way, sly enough, he sighed and laughed when he got into Hufflepuff.

Perry held up his wand and thought hard of the memory. Once he was sure he had it in his mind, he chanted the incantation.

"Expecto Patronum!"

At first, a little whisp came out, but the whisp soon grew to be a great African Elephant. He chuckled when the girls around him screamed in terror of the giant form tromping at them.

Patronus's were easy.

Steven was sitting and doodleing on his parchment when Professor Avery-York came in with several large boxes. Steven did a quick double take and then had to stop himself from laughing. After the lecture Steven went off to his corner to practice a spell that he knew well from when a few people thought it would be funny to petrify an innocent third-year. Since no one was free he went to a dummy and cast the spell to start the cycle. He steeled himself then said the incantation. "Petrificus Totalus!" The dummy froze right before it fired the purple bolt. He stared at the dummy making sure the spell would hold then confidently said "Claudeo."

Lex was eager to learn to master the patronus charm. In her younger years she remembered older housemates triumphantly parading their patronuses around the common room, and she wanted to try so badly. Now it was her turn. But as she readied herself, mumbling the encantation to get the enunciation correct, she realized she was missing a main component. What could be her happiest memory? Sure, Lex had plenty of happy memories, but happy enough to produce a patronus?
'Maybe my first quidditch match' Lex thought as she recalled Ravenclaw's victory back when she was a third year. "Expecto Patronum!" She called, but nothing came from her wand. 'what about that day Laird and I tried learn to drive a muggle car?' Lex questioned, remembering the hilarious joyride her and her brother shared. "Worth a try. Expecto Patronum!" She tried again. This time only a whisp of light shot out, formless. Lex sighed in exasperation. 'I got it! the day mom and I went shopping together!' Lex was convinced this was the one. "expecto- oh..." Lex could not finish for the sorrow of her mother's death that day demolished the happy memory. Lex finally thought of christmas day three years ago. Her father Avaric had tried to make a feast, and it ended up being a burnt disaster. Lex laughed as she remembered eating takeout with Avaric and Laird. It was the first time since her mom died that she felt like her family wasn't broken. Lex took a deep breath and with finality (and some giggles) she said "Expecto Patronum!" She smiled as she saw a wolf cub playfully run about from her wand.

After the lecture was over and done with, Kairi pulled a black hair-thing off her wrist and pulled her hair into a light pony-tail. Pushing her books in her bag, her bag under the desk, her wand into her right hand, she stepped up into the dummy area with the dummies she already had the misfortune to fight against.

She now knew to be ready for the attack. Kairi took a few deep breaths before muttering the charm to bring the giant dolls into action.

As the flesh-colored dummy began to glow red, it's humming became louder until it throw a purple flash at the red-haired girl.

Catching her off guard once more, she only managed to mutter "Perfri-" before her hair become orange when she was 'shot'.

Giggling at her appearance, Kairi repeated this incident a few more times, her hair blue with yellow streaks while her robes were replaced with the horrid dress (Kairi having decided to spend more time practicing than changing).

"Petrificus Totalus!" Kairi said rather loudly, unconsciously saying the two words with force.
This time, however, instead of being hit with the purple bolt, the dummy fell down: completely immobile.

"Yes!" The girl had a broad smile upon her pale face, surrounded by blue.

Her grin faltered by a bit when she realized she had said that a little too loudly and how everyone was looking at the Ravenclaw still in the neon princess-from-hell dress.

Kendra idly looked over at Steven, whom she was currently seated next too, and sighed at the fact that he was writing the lecture down. Then, taking the wand from her bag, she stood, facing the front of the room. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath. Kendra opened her eyes again, and said in a clear tone,

"Expecto Patronum!"

After saying the spell, a whisp of pale white smoke began to pour from the tip of her wand, and float upwards. The smoke soon began to take form, becoming a long body, four strong legs, and lengthy mane and tail, and then finally a long beautiful face with a single horn protruding from between it's ears. The unicorn shook it's mane, rearing up on it's hind legs with a whiny, and galloping first around Kendra's head and then around the room.

Kendra smiled at the fact that she had successfully produced a Patronus creature on her first try, but also at the remembrance of the happy memory that she had used. It brought her great joy to think of such a thing, and she was proud that it had actually helped her in class to think of it.
