The Room

After going into what should be the Defense Against the Dark Arts room, you are confronted with a small circular room, with doors leading into three other rooms, circular as well, but much larger. In fact, the rooms are too large to fit the smaller rectangular room that should be there instead, but through magic, the much needed space for students was given.

The doors in the entry room are marked with numbers, from one to three. You step through the first door. The room inside has portraits of wizards and monsters all around the walls, with the exception of where the windows are located and where the pen is as well, to the left of the door.

The pen is a large cage with enchanted bars going from the floor to the ceiling. A rail around it marks where the wards are, to prevent anyone getting too close to the creatures that are usually inside.

Opposite to the pen lies a small potion making lab, with various vials and cauldrons. There is a locked cabinet here, with ingredients and strange artifacts. It seems to be heavily warded against intrusion.

A few chairs and desks are scattered in the middle of the room, leaving the space on the far side across from the door, clear for the students to practice.

Second Lesson

Already late for class, Professor Avery-York came into the room with some urgency and busyness, carrying several boxes in his arms which all but blocked his view.
Finally making his way to his desk, he set them down on top of it and turned to the students.

"I am deeply sorry for my tardiness class, but I had some urgent affairs I simply had to deal with before coming here, such as this boxes you see assembled here." He smiled looking at them with approval glinting his eyes as he did so. He then looked back at the pupils.

"But that is a matter for the second part of the class, which you have undoubtedly noticed in your schedules, is going to be twice as long this time around. You'll understand why later on but for now let's go on with the lecture."

He turned back to the board and started writing a few things.

"He have here years one through three correct? Correct. So that means two spells for the first years, a creature for the second years and finally a spell for the third years." Going on with his thick Irish accent, the Professor proceeded to give a lecture on each of the things he mentioned.

"Well then, now that is done with, I want the First Years to practice the two spells I mentioned and have written on the board.

The second years are going to play a little with your new spell and a n actual Boggart. Do not be worried, I will be right here to take care of it should it step out of line."

He tapped his wand on the floor and a few of the rocks rose, revealing a hidden cabinet which shook suspiciously.

"You will have to form a line to take your go at it with seeing as I only possess one here."

"And again, finally, the Third Years will divide into pairs and practice your new spell. Should you fail to find a partner, or merely prefer to work alone, simply tell me so and I will provide a practice dummy for you.

Well then, get to work, we still have much to do. After this part ends, there will be a fifteen minute recess - feel free to go sip some tea and eat some cookies - and then I will show you what's in the boxes at the beginning of the second half." ((OOC: First half ends when the second one begins at October 31st which, in turn, will end November 7th.))

Information:

1st Years

Spell - Deprehensio Veneficus
This is spell although very simple and underrated has been a very useful invention, having been conceived recently. What it does is help people identify that which is magical. Whenever it is cast, an area or object that has been enchanted, is under a magical effect or has a magical ability will seem to glow faintly to the caster. This however, does not work with living creatures.

-

Spell - Tripudio Lux lucis
Sometimes distractions are important, and that is what this spell does. When cast, it will create either four floating orbs of light or a human shaped blob of light. They can move however you want them too, but they will never glow much nor can they move more than 20ft away from the caster or they will simply dissipate and fade away.

2nd Years

Spell - Riddikulus

A simple charm requiring force of mind, this spell requires the caster to visualize his or her worst fear in an amusing form while reciting the incantation. When performed correctly, this forces the boggart to take on an appearance which will inspire the laughter that forms an effective defense against the creature.

Creature - Boggart

A shape shifter that prefers to live in dark, confined spaces, taking the form of the thing most feared by the person it encounters; nobody knows what a boggart looks like in its natural state. A boggart appears to feed on the emotion of fear rather than simply deploying this ability as a defense mechanism, hence its classification as a Dark creature. Many Muggle children may have encountered boggarts as "the monster under the bed".

3rd Years

Spell - Expelliarmus

Causes opponent's weapon to fly out of his or her hand. The opponent is then said to have been Disarmed.

Homework:

1st Years: A report about the possible uses of the spells taught today.

2nd Years: One or two paragraphs on the abilities of Boggarts and how to counter them.

3rd Years: One or two paragraphs on why the Expelliarmus spell is one of the best spells to use in duels and while battling Dark Wizards.

Homework will have to delivered to a thread in the Professor Offices.

---

Ok class! Time for the second part. I want you all to meet me outside for the second part in half an hour. Those of you who failed to complete your tasks or are showing up late can come to my office. There we will arrange a date for an extra class. Or if you simply wish to practice more, feel free to come too.

Naida frowned. Spells. More spells. Which meant more charms. Which meant ... more things she was bad at. At least this wouldn't be boring. But why must everything be spells? She grumbled to herself while opening her textbook. And these weren't easy spells either.

Naida held her wand without much enthusiasm as she tried the first spell. "Da-pre-hen-si-o Ven-e-fi-cus." She swished her wand a little when nothing happened. She thought maybe, just maybe, her wand had glowed a little but it was probably just her imagination. "Da-pre-hen-si-o Ven-e-fi-cus!" She said with a little more power, since that seemed to work last time in charms class. Again, nothing. She reread the spell a couple of times. And realized what she was doing wrong. "De-pre-hen-si-o Ven-e-fi-cus!" She said with a steady voice, and suddenly, all sorts of things in the room began to glow. They were, like, everywhere... wands, things on the Professor's desk, things on the shelves... she hadn't even realized there were that many magical things in the room. She looked around amazing and then realized that no one else could see the wonder of her spell. She read a little more into her textbook and found out only the caster could see it. Interesting, she thought to herself, and immediately began to wonder where she could use this spell with a practical purpose.

As Sira read about the spells she would have to cast for that day, she decided to begin with the second one first, as she was curious to witness that show of lights.

"This almost looks like a tongue twister", she said, reading the spell to herself.
With her wand clenched in her fist, she shouted:
"Tripudio Lux Lucis!"

As she did so, a blob of light did form in front of her, but it wasn't exactly what she would call "human shaped", although she did see a faint similarity. It was still more of a blob than anything else, though.
She raised her left hand and tried to touch it, and was amused to see her hand go through the odd shape, not that she expected it to be palpable.

Sira walked back, stepping away from it, to test how far could she go. The light became dimmer and dimmer as she did so, and eventually it disappeared completely.

Once it did, she decided to try the spell again, this time to create the floating orbs.
Took her a few tries; at first, she kept getting that same oddly shaped blob, but eventually she managed to do it. Flicking her wrist, she attempted to make them spin in the air, faster and faster, distracting herself with the lights spectacle.

It took a while until she remembered that it wasn't the only spell she had to cast for that lesson.

Kinzo looked over the concept for Expelliarmus taking a few notes. She looked around for another third year, but saw none. Okay... That doesn't really work... She decided to wait for a bit, and hope that another third year would show up.

Proceeding to the next one, then, Sira read the spell and what it was supposed to do.
She was very curious to see exactly what objects would begin to glow, particularly if there was any unexpected one. In a classroom filled with all sorts of things, it was bound to happen.

It looked hard to pronounce, however, so she sat at her desk reading it to herself a few times before actually attempting to cast it.

"DeprehenSIo... depreHENsio..." she mumbled, trying to figure out which was the tonic syllable.

Kinzo walked over to Professor Avery-York and asked, "Might I get a practice dummy? There seem to be no other third years here, yet." The witch wondered where anyone was, there were only three students in the room!

Thinking she finally had got it right, Sira got up.
"De-pre-hen-sio veneficus!", she finally exclaimed, hoping that she had pronounced it correctly.
Soon, she was able to see that she did, the "fruits of her labor" beginning to show.

Some objects in the classroom began to glow an ever so faint light. She blinked and looked around; they surrounded her. From the most obvious one, like the wands, to things kept away in the cabinets and shelves which she would never have noticed, if they weren't casting that dim light.

It was surprising, more than she expected; but still not as much as the spell she had previously casted.

Gabriel stared dumbfounded at the board. How on earth was he supposed to pronounce that! Sighing, he retreated to a clear location and tried committing the words to mind.

Feeling ready, Gabriel started with the second one. The words came much more naturally than he expected and soon a few orbs of light were floating around him. Grinning he went straight away for the second one but the first two or twenty tries - he lost count - he simply fumbled the enunciation. Eventually he accomplished it, and to his eyes, all that was magical seemed to glow ethereally.

Red immediately began copying down the notes on boggarts carefully when she sat down at a desk. The charm seemed farily easy, though she wasn't quite sure what her boggart would look like. She glanced around, hoping to see anouther 2nd year.
