Madiera's Story

Life has always been simple and uncomplicated for Madeira, which is somewhat remarkable. As a child, she was merry, sunshiney, and full of insane energy; there was nothing in her life that seemed to make her mad or unhappy. The only thing that could possibly have been regarded as a handicap was the relative lack of foals for her to play with. Though she had a brother and a sister, neither was anywhere near as energetic as Maddie herself, and her parents had chosen to raise them in an area that was sparsely populated. However, Maddie was an intrepid soul; if she had no one else to play with, then she would simply give her imagination free rein!

Imagination and a strong sense of fun are characteristics that have stayed with Maddie as she aged. Though now a young adult, she remains a free spirit who loves playing. When it comes to indulging her playful side, she has no shame; whether being tackled by a foal or tumbling head over heels into a scummy pond, she'll always emerge bubbling over with laughter. While it's true that her childlike approach to fun and life don't appeal to everyone, it doesn't bother her one jot; the important thing is that she herself is having a good time!

At some point, she intends to settle down to being a lifemate and a mother...assuming she finds a stallion who shares her devotion to having a good time! In the meantime, she is content to continue as she is, living the life of a playful roamer.

Falarnon's Story

When Falarnon was a foal, the world was a scary. scary place. The younger son in a family of two, Falarnon was able to get through childhood by basking in the protection of his older twin brother, Vencel. Vencel was everything Falarnon wished he could be: strong, brave, adventurous, smart. There was no one who could make Falarnon feel as safe and secure as his brother; if it wasn't for Vencel, then Falarnon most likely would have spent his formative years hiding in a hole!

In his earliest days, Falarnon, or Larnie, as he was affectionately called by his family, felt that his family was the only safe thing out there. His parents had what he viewed as an ideal relationship, and his mother's parents could have written the book on 'doting.' Plus, he had Vencel, who took him on adventures while keeping him safe. What else could a small boy have wanted? But as he grew, Falarnon started to feel that something vague, something he couldn't quite put his hoof on, was 'off.'

As he aged, Falarnon was mostly able to overcome his worst childhood handicaps: a crippling fear of the unknown and an almost pathological shyness. Still, as an adult he is still reserved and a bit shy; while he is scrupulously polite to strangers, the idea of instigating a conversation or walking up to a stranger and greeting them is enough to make him break into a cold sweat! Beyond that, he was still a creature of routine and habit; he liked the familiar, even if the unknown no longer terrified him.

His biggest trial as he grew was his father, or specifically, his relationship with his father. Aramis had been a French warhorse, whatever that meant, and had retained a love of the dramatic and flamboyant even in his quiet home life. There was no question that Aramis adored his sons, but he had never been able to hide his disappointment when they said or did something that deviated from his belief in what they should be. It wasn't until much later that Falarnon would learn the truth: that his father, while good mannered and in possession of a pronounced sense of honor, was no gentleman. He had seduced Falarnon's mother Saiena with the intention of enjoying himself and moving on. It was only when he learned Saiena was pregnant that he considered changing his mind, and only when she had a pair of twin colts that he decided to stay. Though he acted the part of the devoted father, beneath the surface Aramis was a stallion who was literally chafing at the bit. He wanted his sons to be mini versions of himself, and seeing Falarnon turn out so oppositely was, to put it mildly, frustrating.

As things would work out, it was Falarnon who ultimately proved the catalyst in Aramis' departure from the family. A routine father/son interaction somehow managed to degenerate until both stallions were practically yelling at each other, any semblance of understanding or compassion gone. In the end, they both stalked off after exchanging harsh words, the kind that could never be taken back. Falarnon was so upset he abandoned his leather hat, a gift from his father in his youth, and took off alone to try and work out what had just happened and what he himself felt about it. Unbeknownst to him, their conversation had been the last straw for Aramis, who went home to Saiena and told her she was leaving. Falarnon had no idea what was going on, that he had inadvertently caused it, or that he had, by leaving, left his mother and brother to deal with the fallout alone.

Serotia's Story

An orphan from her earliest memories, Serotia mostly recalls her youth as being 'all over the place.' Since her parents had been part of a herd of imps, when they were unexpectedly killed the herd decided to raise their three children, Serotia and her two brothers, collectively; that way, no other members of the herd would have the burden of providing for three new mouths, or the children wouldn't have to deal with the additional trauma of separation. As the youngest of the three, Serotia was the least traumatized by these events; she just remembers a youth spent with more 'parents' than she knew what to do with!

However, you can't take the mischief out of an imp, even a grown one, so even with her multitude of parents, Serotia never suffered from too much supervision...or too much stodginess! From her herd family, Serotia learned the important things in life; how to make sparks, how to play the GAME sparks, how to pull off the perfect prank. It was all good fun...even when the joke was on the other foot!

Serotia's life changed drastically in her late teens, when the valley of the minis was found to be connected to the Kawani lands. Although uninterested in the 'boring details' of the new land, she was thrilled to be able to access a new (to her) world with new creatures to tease...particularly the enormous Soquili! Since she had always had a well-developed sense of adventure, she had been quick to pass through the cave connecting the land of the minis with the Kawani Soquili, and has rarely looked back.
