It had only been a matter of time, Falarnon reflected morosely. Only a matter of time before he had fallen back into his funk, that is. It would take a lot more than a short encounter, no matter how pleasant, to hold those dark feelings and thoughts at bay. He had never been an extremely positive sort of stallion; he had been terrified of the world as a foal, and as an adult he had remained timid and easily subdued. So it was only natural that when his world as he knew it came crashing down, his spirits would be crushed beneath it.

It had been weeks now since the 'conversation' with his father where everything had gone to hell. Weeks since Falarnon had learned his father didn't love his mother, didn't live Falarnon and his brother other than as offshoots of Aramis himself, and didn't want to be the family stallion he always had. Weeks since Falarnon had been yelled at by the father he'd always held in trepidatious awe to begin with, weeks since he'd been burdened with knowledge he didn't know how to handle. He couldn't go face his mother, not after an incident like that; he utterly failed at dissembling and Saiena would know immediately that something was wrong. Likewise for his beloved brother Vencel; he was Falarnon's role model and icon, and he was likewise devoted to Falarnon; his protective antenna would be higher than the clouds if he so much as glanced at Falarnon after that conversation.

So Falarnon had simply fled the area, an act normally far beyond the boundaries of his comfort zone. He was a homebody, after all; he still lived in the same general area where he'd been born and raised, seeing his mother, his brother, his grandparents...and his father...on a regular basis. He hated travel, hated the unknown, and was timid around strangers. In fact, thinking on it, he had never actually gone away before on his own.

But all things considered, facing the unknown by himself was a much more satisfying prospect than facing his family right now. So he'd taken off, leaving behind the hat he'd been given by his father.

Since then, he'd done a lot of roaming, mostly in a big circuit. He didn't want to get lost, after all, and the world beyond his home tended to blur together for him. But he made a point of watching for landmarks and keeping track of where he was, even when deep in thought. There was one particular strand of birch trees he particularly liked, and he kept coming back to them; they sheltered a beaver pond and stood out amidst the starkness of the plains like a pristine white beacon.

He was back there today, trying to shake off the newly returned sensation of doom and gloom by watching one of the beavers at work. Though originally nervous in his presence, the beaver family had apparently come to accept him, perhaps sensing that he was incapable of doing them any harm. As it was, he found their presence soothing...for the most part. After all, THEY had an intact family.

Sigh. Why did life have to be so complicated?

Zaiella was so tired.

Tired of trying to fly.

Now she'd lost the second soul who had been willing to try and teach a downed mare to soar in the skies. She'd been close...once. It was more like a lucky glide than anything which had taken her higher than she'd ever been, but when she came down she came down hard. She was still nursing some cuts and scraped from the ordeal, but it was mostly her pride which had been wounded. She'd thought for sure she could do it that time with the encouragement...but soon he was gone; and it did nothing to boost her confidence that her flying drove others away. It seperated her from those stuck on the ground...she hated to be away from them, so of course it would ring true that they didn't like her up in the air. Oh, how sometimes she wished she wasn't born with these wings...if her and her siblings had all been wind or all been ground.

Tired of being alone.

Zaiella had never imagined life would turn out as such...as a foal she'd had friends, had fun...but now. Now she was some aged mare, slowly dwindling past her prime as even her aunts and uncles were becoming great, great grandparents. Yet...Zaiella had never been in love...she supposed she was close, once...but perhaps in hindsight she'd been so desperately in love with the idea for love she skewed the two together. He was a handsome stallion, she would admit....but she was plain, and broken. A regular doormouse in a sea of swans. She would not settle though....Zaiella had plenty of self respect to wait...even if she'd wait forever.

She wanted to bad to feel some kind of spark, a connection, one like her parents had. That it was just meant to be.

Now, she was tired of walking for the day, as her weary body pushed past a strand of birch trees which concealed a cute little little pond. Not getting too close she took protection under she shade of the tree; collapsing to the ground in an un-elegant heap. She just wanted to rest, she was sure if she laid down her mind would forget about what bogged her down. She just needed a distraction...if she had something or someone else to focus on she'd ignore her own woes. It worked like a charm. Looking up she noted a beaver dam which the large rodents seemed to have been startled by her presence and looked at her wearily. A sheepish smile later and she turned her head to rest on her leg; hoping to give them the idea she was just her to rest her tired body and not to harm them.

Then she'd set out again, as she always did in her solitary life.

Falarnon had been so wrapped up in his thoughts, his brooding, and the energetic busy-ness of the beavers that he hadn't even noticed that another Soquili had arrived on the scene. It wasn't until the beavers reacted with surprise and fear, doing their tail slaps and moving away from the near bank, that he took notice. They no longer reacted like that to him, so someone new must have arrived on the scene.

With a mixture of wariness and curiosity, he looked in the direction of the disturbance. It only took a moment for him to see the mare; like him, she was 'unnatural'; that is, a color that stood out starkly against the green grass and the pale birch trees. In fact, she was even blue like him, though a much paler shade.

He was surprised that she hadn't noticed him, standing out in the open as he was. It wasn't that he was vain, it was just that he knew he stood out. Unless she hadn't really been looking up? Or maybe it was something even simpler; maybe she, like he himself, had come here to brood. It certainly was a perfect place to retreat; quiet, peaceful, sheltered. That was why he himself was here, so it certainly made sense she might be here for the same reason.

But he wasn't going to assume, or impose. She was certainly lying awkwardly, so that was a reasonable segue to 'take the pulse of the encounter', so to speak.Clearing his throat, he simply asked in his quiet way, "Excuse me, but are you alright?"

It was all truth that she'd been so engrossed in her own thoughts and little world that she didn't pay copious attention to her surroundings. With wildlife about and the area in such pristine condition minus the busy beaver's work...Zaiella knew danger couldn't be afoot. With such simple conditions met she allowed her guard to fall and simply enjoy this moment of serenity and relaxation...allow her body to regenerate the energy spent on her walking.

Yet hark...a voice broke through the tail slapping which caused her body to visibly tense and her head to shoot up once more. Eyes scanning she saw an almost painfully obvious body not far off...how had she not noticed!? The pale blue mare inwardly scolded herself, her father had taught her much better but she was just...tired. So tired. So she'd cut corners and well....she would have paid the price but it seemed luck was on her side that her body wasn't being nibbled on by some predator.

Just a voice.

Just a.....stallion?

A sheepish smile drew across her face, feeling a bit of embarrassed heat rise under her small golden heart on her nose. Hopefully she hadn't intruded on him....maybe this was herd land? One could never be 100% sure, although she'd been fortunate not to run into any hostile territory yet; but that could change in a heartbeat.

"Apologies, Sir. I'm alright...just tired, been looking for a place to recharge...one could say." In more ways than one, but of course if she had a strength it was her manners and demure demeanor. "I hope I haven't intruded on your home....I promise I wont be long..."

Funny, though. She'd never met many blue soquili outside of her own family line. While the shades they sported were quite different, she couldn't help but admire the foreign blue. It was so rich outside the dark and pale blues of her own family. She quite enjoyed it...but was clearly biased in her opinion about the primary hue. Adjusting her body so she was at a more presentable state than her exhausted slump, the mare was a little relieved at the company. It had been a while since she last bumped into someone like this. The last few had been traveling families, couples, and even other solo souls on journeys of their own. Zaiella wasn't quite comfortable to approach groups, feeling too much of a bother in their company. Thankfully beavers aside he seemed to be here by himself, and she didn't mind cashing in on a little bit of conversation.

"My name is Zaiella....just a traveling mare, really." Her eyes wandered over to the beavers who hesitantly resumed their work yet without the same exuberance as before. "Do you come here often, they seem to be very comfortable with you..." Wait. "Or...if this is your home of course they would be..." She gave a chuckle of unease, maybe she should have waited to hear if this was in fact his dwelling or not before babbling on like a ninny.

"Oh." Falarnon wasn't sure what sort of answer he'd been expecting from the mare, so he wasn't completely sure what his response ought to be. Still, it was good to know that she wasn't suffering any sort of distress; he'd never been a good healer or helper, so the best he'd be able to do would be run for help. If the situation merited such action, he would certainly go, but the idea of actually heading off in search of others at this time was extremely unappealing. So actually, knowing that...yes, he was satisfied with her answer.

Falarnon had never been given to boisterous speech patterns. His natural speaking voice was level and soft, easily drowned out by the excitement of others. But given his extreme shyness in youth, he had never done anything to change that fact. He was the quiet one, the one who could, in spite of his distinctive coat, escape notice. But here, in this calm glade, there was nothing to drown him out; no rapidly rushing water, thanks to the beavers; no gaily chattering others to blur his words. So he didn't have to worry about the mare being unable to hear him, unless she was actually on the deaf side. All things were possible, of course.

"Please, don't feel you have to apologize," Falarnon said with a slight shake of his head. "This isn't my home, or a part of my territory in any way; I just..." pausing, he looked back at the pond, at the resumed industry of the beavers. Such a happy little family, the beavers... "I just like it here. It's a very relaxing, peaceful place, and the beavers are so happy together. I like to come and watch them, and think..." He trailed off again, frowning slightly at some distressing thought, then gave the mare a slight smile and bow. Just because he was off being broody didn't mean he'd forgotten his manners! "Please, Zaiella, feel free to stay as long as you wish; I shan't be bothered by your presence, and please feel free to ignore me as you see fit."

On the note, he started to move further down the bank, giving her a little space to 'recharge' herself. But then he stopped, remembering one last little bit of missed manners. "I'm Falarnon, by the way."
