Bzzzzz. Bzzzzzz. Bzzzzz. Bzzzzz.

Sighing, Falarnon abandoned any pretense of trying to take a nap. It was a gorgeous afternoon, and the sun was shining on the banks of the beaver pond. He had had a whimsical idea of taking a nap in the sunshine, enjoying the warmth and the sound of the lapping water. What he hadn't counted on, and had finally lost patience with, were the bugs. Gnats were bad enough, but apparently this area was also a popular hangout for mosquitos. On his own, he was no match for their numbers, and a nap was quite out of the question.

Wrinkling his nose, Fal let out a loud whuff of breath, aimed at dislodging the bugs settling on his nose. It mostly worked...

"Ok, obviously this is not going to work." Shaking his head, he whuffed again, then turned away from the pond. A pretty spot, but he'd be best off putting some space between himself and the bugs, if he wanted to stay lump-free.

There was something to be said for having wings, Falarnon mused as he flicked at the bugs with his (fortunately) abundant tail. If he had wings, he would be able cool himself and keep the bugs away at the same time, to say nothing of the advantages in locomotion. He was a relatively placid natured Soquili most of the time, not one to giving into petulant thoughts or grumpines. Most of the time, though, it was not a disgustingly humid day determined to make him uncomfortable.

He sighed, wishing he had his hat. Both he and his brother had been given hats by their father upon their birth, hats that Aramis had possessed for years. The hates provided shade, kept the bugs away from their ears, and helped keep their manes from getting too unruly. But they did tend to blow away on windy days, and it was a devilishly hard time to put it back on his own. When he was off on his own, he tended to leave the hat back home with his mother.

At least she'd helped him to tie back his hair, so he didn't have to worry about it getting in his face.

He sighed, whisking away a few more bugs. Might as well move along...

He took a step, then paused. It was hard to tell over the drone of the insects, but were those footfalls? He cocked his head, listening, then smiled. It was footfalls. He couldn't wish the bugs on anyone, but it might be a nice distraction from the annoyances of the day!

It was an unusual experience for Falarnon to not be noticed. Unlike his older brother Vencel, whose pale coat could (on rare occassions and in the correct lighting) appear to blend into the midday sky, Fal's own coat fell firmly into the 'not common in natural surroundings' category. He'd long since given up any attempts to be stealthy; with no camouflage and no wings to effect a sneaky entrance, there was no real point. Consequently, while the mare's excuse for nearly running into him was surprising, it was also pleasant, in a way.

"It's no trouble at all, on a day like today there seem to be many things about to distract us. I must say, you being able to ignore everything well enough to miss me is rather commendable. I'd just given up on the idea of peace for the day, myself." This was punctuated by another lash of his tail, aimed at the descending mosquitoes with a sense of accepting annoyance. "These insects really are out in spades today, aren't they? I'd hope to take advantage of the shade for a nap, but these buggers are making me rethink my location."
