~Meeting with a Maiden~ Hawkiko Waiora canters along the sandy beach, stumbling on unsteady legs. Recently *hatched*(?) out of her fruit she is mesmerized by the world around her. dbz2004
An unusual Nequus wandered onto the beach, his overcoat swaying slightly in the light breeze. No matter what condition the wind, his overcoat managed to stay on his back, the sleeves draping over his shoulders like a cloak. He glanced around the area, his blond mane swaying along side his coat. "Ah, I see someone," he said to himself outloud. Picking his pace up to a trot, he headed straight towards Waiora.
Hawkiko Waiora looked up to see a full-grown wearing clothing approach her. That's odd, she thought to herself as he drew closer. dbz2004
Howl tossed his head in the air and stopped a mere 10 feet away from the young Nequus. "Greeting and Salutations. My name is Howl. And what is your name, dear child?" he asked Waiora curiously, his head canted slightly to one side.
Hawkiko ~Waiora cocked her head a little to the side, curious at this "Howl".~ *I'm Waiora, it's nice to meetcha!* ~Prancing around a little in the sand, she suddenly stopped, stretched out her neck, and sniffed a shell.~ dbz2004
Howl bobbed his head down slightly and pawed at the soft sand beneath his hooves. "What a beautiful name. Tell me, miss Waiora, what brings you to the ends of the Earth?" He canted his head to one side and let his tail swish back and forth slowly.
Hawkiko *The ends of the Earth? Is that where I am?* Waiora continued to wander around, sniffing her new surroundings and being mesmerized by insects and the sea birds flying around. *I washed up from the ocean. I don't know why I'm here. Do you think I can fly?* she asked, suddenly looking up at Howl in question. She looked at the birds flying above. *It'd be wonderful to fly...* dbz2004
He nodded his head slightly at her question and stopped pawing at the ground. "Indeed. I have never seen any other island nearby, so I assume this is the end of the earth. The ocean does seem to stretch on forever, though." He let his voice fade away as he gazed at the ocean. Her next question snapped him out of the trance he was going into and he looked at her curiously. "Now, why would you want to fly? It only causes trouble," he commented to her. His companion, tahmores, had gotten injured while flying for the first time since he had grown into an adult. He himself didn't bother with flying due to him not wanting his overcoat to fly away without him. He was also quite afraid of flying.
Hawkiko *No other islands near by? Where did I come from?* Her wings twitched and she turned her neck to stare at them. *I have wings? So I can fly!* Galloping down the beach, she turned and raced towards Howl, gaining speed. Nearing him she jumped into the air, beating her wings frantically. Unfortunately her wings were not strong enough, and instead of soaring into air she effectively head-butted Howl in the side. *Ow...* she muttered, shaking her head. dbz2004
Howl shrugged slightly and lifted his maw in the air to taste the ocean air. "Now that I cannot answer. Only you know the answer to that question," he told her in a quiet voice. 'Was there really life on the other side of this planet,' he pondered to himself. He wasn't really paying attention to the femme and felt her bump into him while attempting to fly. Slowly, he lowered his head down and bumbed his maw on her neck. "You alright, little one?" he asked her curiously.
Hawkiko *Yep!* Jumping up, her ears perked up as she gazed up into Howl's eyes. *So what's it like on other parts of this island? All I've seen is the beach.* She circled around Howl, begging him to show her other parts of the island. dbz2004
Howl flicked an ear slightly and raised his head up to gaze at the forest lining the beach. "It is nice, but it gets very cold in the winter time. I like it, though. The snow is very nice and relaxing, something completely different than the summer time. The forest is the only thing I have seen until today, when I decided to venture further than it. This is the first time seeing the ocean," he told her in a curious tone of voice. Gazing down at her, he gave the femme a simple smile.
Hawkiko Waiora looked at the forest curiously. *Those trees are pretty, but I love the ocean, well, any type of water! I think that's part of where I came from,* she proclaimed, prancing around Howl, showing off her dolphin and fish markings. *Just look at my coat! I want to see a real dolphin... that would be amazing!* Waiora looked out into the sea, hoping that her wishes would come true right then. dbz2004
Howl glanced at the markings along the femme's body and nodded his head. "Curious," he murmured under his breath. He hadn't seen such brilliant markings before. He was only used to seeing Tahmores' blotchy black, brown and white markings. Nodding his head, he watched the femme gaze out across the ocean's horizon.
Hawkiko Easily distracted, Waiora forgot about the dolphins and turned back to Howl. *So are there any other like us here? Any my size? Or all they all big like you?* dbz2004
He nodded his head and smiled warmly at her. "yes, there are others like us. My friend tahmores is smaller than me, but he has a very calm temper, unlike some of the male Nequus I have run into on my wanderings in the forest," he told her in a soft voice. "I think there are a few foals, but I might be wrong. Some aren't as tall as me. There are some who are taller or smaller than me."
Hawkiko *Really?* Waiora asked excitedly. *Is your friend nearby? Can I meet him? Where is he?* The questions came out fast and left her out of breath, so after she finished she took a deep breath in, then smiled sheepishly. dbz2004
Hwol nodded his head. 'Yup. Sadly, he isn't with me at the moment. He is at my little hiding spot, recovering from an injury he recieved on one of his wings. Hopefully, it heals completely, but I am afraid that he may never fly again. A pity. He really loved to fly, too." He tossed his head slightly, sending his blond mane in his face.
Hawkiko *He was injured flying? He might not be able to again? That's HORRIBLE!* Waiora looked up at Howl in shock. *I wish I could help... I imagine flying is amazing...* dbz2004
He nodded his head slightly and sighed silently. "Indeed, it is quite tragic. I hope he recovers very well and attempts a second chance at flight, but right now that is looking quite grim."
Hawkiko *I'll have to be careful if I ever try to fly again.* Waiora yawned and her eyelids grew heavy. *I'm afraid I'm a bit sleepy, though... I'll have to ask you to wish your friend my best, and beg your leave. I must sleep.* Waiora wandered sleepily over to a sheltered area in the sand and slumped down, quickly falling asleep.
He nodded his head and wandered back into the forest to get back to his friend. He knew Tahmores would be worried about the Aeri if Howl was gone for far too long.

~A Run-In With Reality~
Howl wandered through the dense forest he usually did his morning/mid-morning walks through and noticed the area to be quieter than usual. He canted his head to one side and gazed up into the trees to find them empty. "Strange...I usually hear birds chirping by now. I wonder where they are," he muttered under his breath. It didn't take him long to find out why the birds were gone. He hadn't walked a mile further when he heard the sound of loud, hoarse breaths coming from a rather large creature. He peaked his head around a tree and saw a Jala leaning against a smaller one, one of his wings drooping on the ground at an unusual angle. He canted his head to one side and slowly approached the Jala. Immediately, the other Nequus lifted his head up high when he caught Howl's scent and looked at him with fear-filled eyes. Howl immediately stopped in his tracks and lowered his head to show that he wasn't a threat to the Jala.
"May I be of some assistance?" Howl asked the Jala curiously. The other Nequus closed his eyes briefly and then opened them slowly as he heard the Aeri ask him something. Looking over at Howl, Tahmores saw that the Aeri was dressed in flashy clothes. "What...do...you...want?" asked the Jala, his speech slightly out of breath. It had taken him all of his strength to get as far away from the area where he met Storm and still he hadn't gone very far at all. It was like he was stuck here without anywhere to go. "You look worn out. Come, my Master can tend to your wounds," he told the other male in a soft voice. Slowly, he approached the Jala, wondering if he would accept his invitation to go to his Master's cave. Tahmores canted his head to one side and gazed at Howl curiously. "Why...are you...doing this? You...don't even know...me," he asked breathlessly. Howl shook his head and quivered his wings underneath his coat. "It's because I hate to see other Nequus suffer like that. You are too kind of a Nequus to be in such pain," he replied sadly. Tahmores widened his eyes for a few seconds, but then let his expression go soft as he stood up straight. "Thank...you," he muttered under his breath as he started to follow the Aeri deeper into the forest. Howl glanced back at the Jala and flicked an ear slightly. "Tell me, who did this?" he asked the other male curiously. "Someone...I don't know. I...couldn't tell her...coat color, but...she was a b***h," he replied to the Aeri, his breathing getting slightly better as the pain began to numb up slightly. "I see. Well, then, I guess that if I ever run into a bitchy Nequus, I can give her a little payback for what she did to you," he commented blunty. Tahmores didn't bother replying to him. Deep inside the Jala wanted Storm to pay for what she did to his wing. Shaking his head slightly, he picked up his pace slightly so that he wouldn't get left behind.
