From Wikipedia:
Quote:
Allusions

Snicket is fond of using literary and philosophical allusions in his books. The Baudelaires are named after Charles Baudelaire and their father, Bertrand, is named for Aloysius Bertrand, a poet who strongly influenced Baudelaire.

I havent looked at Aloysius' page but you could Wikipedia search it.

I KNEW it had Bert in it! And I have to agree with paradoxical. Beatrice and Bertrand Baudelaire. Very Lemony. Oh, and I always figured the question mark that chased away Count Olaf in TGG was the man with a beard but no hair and the woman with hair but no beard. But I wouldn't be surprised if I was completely wrong. The only way it makes since is that those two are the only ones Count Olaf seems to be afraid of.

Yeah, but we can't been certain who they were. The captain in TGG said that there were lots of villains more trecharous than Count Olaf. And you saw how many villains there were in Hotel Denoument, because of the rings they left on all the tables. 3nodding I don't know about the Bertrand/Beatrice theory, but I think it has something to do with it or something, we'll just have to wait and see.
