The "three new gift box styles" are available free when you gift an item to someone. They contain nothing until you put your gift to the person in them.

The event was a bit pricy, but I luckily joined the winning team, and will make back what I put into it and more. I think. I HOPE!

Oh, now I get it. Thanks.
Also a bit disappointing. I thought maybe they were bringing back MCs in some form.

These "buy an achievment" events just kind of piss me off so I'n not participating in this one. I joined a team and took a wing sticker (on my way to finding out what the event was) but that's about it.
Ended up getting a special ingredient on my second post. But that's still useless unless I purchase the other ingredients.

I can't really think of any other business that wants me to pay money for absolutely nothing. smile

Luckily that's one of the things I really like about Gaia - you don't have to pay a single penny to enjoy the site.

You don't, but I also recognize it isn't realistic to expect them to continue to service me without revenue. To that end I'd rather see a requirement of a very minimal amount like everyone has to purchase $2.50 monthly collectible / thank you letter. Requiring payment would prevent a few folks from participating but it also would have enabled Gaia to avoid just about everything negative about it over the past several years.

Because really just about everything I dislike about Gaia boils down to Gaia needing / wanting more money. Features that are broken because they don't have enough staff to get to it. Features delayed for the same reason. Ongoing complaints about customer service and huge wait times on trouble tickets because they don't have the manpower to work through them.
Even Goldemort was brought in because "recouping money from businesses for the investors" is a thing he does.

I don't WANT to pay money for things that are currently free but I recognize the need for it and a very modest subscription for all seems better than Gaia relying on whales to spend hundreds / thousands on their pixel addiction.

I have advertising blocked on Gaia because Gaia repeatedly failed to police its own advertising and kept hiding behind "Oooh! We have no control over what ads show up on our web site". Even though many other web sites do fine at policing what advertising does on their sites. Those "mouse over" ads that would auto play if you accidentally got the mouse near them were annoying enough but the day one of them installed malware on my computer I was done.

And that too BTW was due to Gaia needing money.
Or at least I am strongly of the opinion that it was.
Gaia doesn't have the level of site traffic that a site like Facebook or Google has so they probably can't be as picky about who supplies their ads. I believe Gaia stuck with the shady ad suppliers because those folks offered Gaia the most money. That and/or some of the reputable ad suppliers were not interested in Gaia.

I don't know what Gaia is doing with their ads now because I have not seen one in years.

TLDR: I'd rather pay a tiny bit each month than deal with auto playing malware ads, hyperinflation from selling gold generators, endless spamming of "buy this in the cash shop" site announcements and having just about every area of the site compromised in one way or another due to insufficient cash flow.

I completely agree with you that Gaia needs money. And I support it when I can. But often months go by when I can't and it would make me sad to give up Gaia (because once given up, I'd probably never return even if I got money to spend here later). I'm afraid that is true for many of Gaia users and the site would crash and burn if they tried to implement a pay-to-play system. However, I also agree that a consistent flow of money would go a long way to solving Gaia's problems, which is why I feel like the better angel subscription idea is a good one, encouraging the most reliable flow of income for Gaia.

I prefer a system where everyone pays at least a little bit instead of relying on voluntary donations from what I assume is a much smaller subset of users.
But as I stated above I do agree with you that at this point Gai does not have enough users to survive a move to a subscription service.
On the other hand I don't think it will survive by expecting users to continue to purchase a stupid color splash to highlight their user names.

And yes, if I left Gaia I probably would not come back.
As it is, just about all of my time / interaction on Gaia is the news forum, sometimes here, sometimes SF and a tiny bit in event threads.

I rarely change my avi, I don't play the frequently broken games and I have about zero interest in the latest hastily cranked out cash shop item. I used to be really big into my fish tanks and the booty grab scene but that is just another area where Gaia screwed me over.

And the biggest failure of this social site is just about everyone I used to socialize with here got fed up and left Gaia.

ATS February 20th, 2019

ATS is becoming rather predictable. A large portion of every ATS these days boils down to -

User: "(THING)" is broken. Can you fix it?"

GAIA: (one of several related answers)
"We don't have the resources to fix that right now"
"I thought we had fixed (THING). I'll look at it again"
"We didn't know (THING) was broken. We will try to get to it."

VARIATION:
User: "When will you get around to fixing (THING) that you have known was broken for ages now?"

GAIA: "I don't know when we will be able to get to that. We have dedicated our lives to actually making the mobile app work before cell phones become a historical relic only found in museums."

At least someone addressed the issue that the valentines event was stupid expensive and Gaia (sort of) responded.

And I was sort of amused by the user who found it personally upsetting that you can purchase color flairs on the marketplace. smile

I read this and was just.... 'WOW" eek

"I filed a ticket in the help center and it has been open without response for 10 months...."

"...Unfortunately we are quite backed up. ..."

Not, "If it has been 10 months with zero response then obviously something went wrong".
Just an apparent acceptance that 10 months with no response would fall within the norm due to being "quite backed up".

No wonder many users are getting fed up and leaving Gaia.

Also, that Samsung fold looks rather cool.
The $2,000 (ish) price tag is pretty spendy in comparison to my $200 unlocked Moto G6 though so I don't see myself being one of the early adapters.

AtS March 19th 2019 thoughts in a nutshell~

I know it's possible because it happened and of course not many people attempt to go into the paws forum without being a paw in general, but it's so weird that ever since the paw forum was introduced it's given that error message(again referring to that first question asked), and yet just now someone thought to ask about it, and no one in staff thought it was even happening?
What... other error messages would it be showing if you can't access a forum, you know? Not knocking the staff, just uh... a little alarming to me that something like that can go for so long before anyone addresses it both in userbase and staff? But then how would staff know without a user asking to begin with, you ask. Again what's fishy to me is that if no one was on the job of creating a specific error message so as to let users better know that they simply need a paw base to enter.... thennnnn why is it surprising that this 'confusing' message is displayed instead?

Seems like they just didn't take notice and kept on going, getting busy with other things rather than just not being 'aware' of this.

also shout out to Twisted Lady who politely called out the staff for making vague responses for years now about the EI Hero's Journey, lol!

Soooooo they say they don't have enough artists to do certain things. No doubt they will have plenty of artists anytime it can make actual revenue for them, though(while I wholeheartedly understand that making actual money SHOULD be a priority for them, that doesn't make it any less disconcerting and frustrating that their go-to is always that they are short staffed. Maybe if they hadn't had that whole "we haven't paid our artists for 10billion gajillion diff items yet!" thing, artists wouldn't have left... WHERE is all their money going????).

CASPER THE FRIENDLY GOD
is there anything in here about the ignore system and how it works on guilds?
Technically yes, but not since 2017, and it's all just "We'll look into it"-type answers.

If any question about how something works in Guilds gets an answer from Staff, it'll show up in the By Subject subforum's Guilds thread. It might also show up in another Subject thread, since I put things in every Subject thread that I deem applicable; there've been questions that I added to as many as four Subject threads because the question was related to a bunch of different things.

I searched the Guilds thread by visiting each page and using my browser's Search function to look for the word "ignore". It turned up this post requesting that entire guilds be hidden from you if you've ignored, or been ignored by, the guild owner; this post pointing out that if you're in a guild owned by someone you've ignored or been ignored by, you'll still see Guild Announcements they send out; and this post requesting that if you ignore or are ignored by the owner of a guild you're already in, you should automatically be kicked out of the guild.

(It also turned up an irrelevant post hoping that Staff won't ignore the need to update Guilds. Fair enough.)

Was your concern something else? I'm not aware of any other questions related to the Ignore feature and Guilds being answered by Staff in AtS.

your links only took me to the top of the guild pages in your guild, there seems to be a problem with the direct link to posts in clickable links, something lanzer may have to work on
not sure if it really helps, ill start searching the main forums just in case too

Is there something wrong with Guild announcements? I clicked on the most recent one yesterday and about every hour since I've woken up on gotten on Gaia, the announcement has popped up again and again..
