A New Trinket

Tairi had wandered into the store by chance, just meandering through shops as she usually did. She enjoyed checking out the second hand stores, as she often preferred to buy her stuff at a bargain. She didn't like paying for a lot, but then again she was on a pretty tight budget. She had skimmed all the nearby stores, yet still had nothing to show for it.

Nothing anywhere had really caught her fancy, to be quite honest. And now, she was simply cruising through the store, idly picking up items and shifting them in her hands. She was shyly avoiding the attention of the shopkeeper, who seemed to be caught up in another customer anyways. She really didn't like being helped when she was shopping, or doing much of anything else to be honest. She preferred taking care of herself. She could, so she should.

She had come across something kind of nifty- what a strange eyeliner pen. It was just a little thing of liquid eyeliner, which she happened to have a huge affinity for. And it looked like it was even black, her color of choice. She pondered on buying it, worried that it might be used and that she might get some disease... But she ended up deciding to buy it anyways.

When she finally arrived home, she settled into her chair with her bag of odds and ends she had collected from her shopping venture. She idly rummaged through them, and finally pulled out the eyeliner. Hmm. Time to check this out, maybe?

Oh no. It was NEON GREEN. What the HELL was she going to do with neon green eyeliner? She groaned inwardly. Just her luck.

A Discovered Use, to Say the Least

Tairi had been going through her cosmetics collection, finding she had a large array of eyeliners and mascaras, along with facial washes and things that she never used. It was about time she really got rid of everything that was unnecessary. It was cluttering up her rather modest sized bathroom. She finally took a break to pull back her hair into a messy ponytail, sighing to herself. This was surprisingly hard work, and it was starting to get really warm and humid. Damn spring. It always seemed to innocent until summer's heat crept into it.

She wandered over to the kitchen, rolling up her sleeves and cranking up the AC on her way over there. She was donned in a loosely fitted shirt and a simple pair of sweatpants, which she had rolled up to give her calves some air. It seemed almost too stuffy in her house.

She returned to her room now with a glass of iced tea, yawning lazily and rubbing at her eyes. She was in no mood to be doing anything productive... It was such a lazy spring afternoon.. But alas. She knew that every afternoon would seem like a lazy afternoon to her, and she would never do it if she didn't do it now. So back to cleaning it was.

A few minutes later, she came across something rather familiar. Ahh~ that green eyeliner. She examined the packaging idly, taking a moment for yet another break. She sipped at her tea, and then set it aside to crack open the eyeliner. Just out of curiosity, she would see how this crazy color looked before she threw it out. The young woman stood, facing her mirror. She pulled back her bangs, pinning them to the side. Then, Tairi leaned her elbows forward onto the counter and attempted to draw a line across her upper lid.

Unfortunately, the blonde knocked over the base of the eyeliner in the process. She pursed her lips, but decided to ignore it for now, attempting to line her eye. Nothing was coming out... Meanwhile, a neon green blob began to shift out from the opening of the base onto the counter.

"Gahh." It must be dried out. What a waste.

Tairi took a step back to find herself face to face with a child.

She screamed.

And thus was the beginning of a beautiful family.

Continued Education

Ever since the day she had lost him in the library, Jax had been acting kind of different. Tairi was trying to figure this out currently, as she sat watching her little one stare at one of his storybooks. He had plenty of toys to be playing with, and an older sister and herself as company, yet he would frequently turn his attention to these books. He couldn't read them, but she noticed as she read to him at night that he was starting to know whole words. She really wondered what happened that day when she lost him.

He was pestering her to go over pages multiple times, and to sing the ABC song with him. He was always asking what signs and things said, and when he wasn't making art it seemed like he was trying his best to delve into these subjects (which didn't work out due to him being a toddler.)

Finally, his mom decided to sit him down and give him an informal teaching session. They went over the ABCs, and then she finally taught him some basic and commonly seen words. After an hour or so, she moved on to numbers. Ahh, numbers. Untread ground.

She had gotten a number book with very colorful and detailed pictures- he didn't like scribbly or overly cartoony kids books. She relaxed back into the chair, yawning quietly, and he was her captive audience on the floor. She went through the book slowly, showing him all the pages and pointing out the pictures. For 1, there was 1 cat. For 2, there were 2 kittens, and etc. The book only went up to ten, but she figured that was good enough knowledge for now. He was only a little kid.

"Un', Two, T'ree, Fou', Fi', Si', Se'en, Eigh', Ni'. Ten?"

His mom smiled. "Exactly, kitten." She scooped him up and cuddled him, "You're such a smart little boy, love."

The boy beamed happily. She had been noticing it a lot lately. His speech was improving greatly all on its own, and he just seemed to get things better.

He was her smart little boy.
